Chapter 3A teen hands over their food at the drive through, eyes bulging as he looks at Evan. He probably hasn’t seen a human before. Evan doesn’t seem to notice the kid staring and just holds the food Rene passes him. Rene pays and gets back on the road, driving back to his place. “I’m going to work while I eat. Do you mind eating with me so I can get any questions out the way? Living in this town, you should know a lot of what I’ll need to know,” Evan says, opening a package of fries and stealing one. He looks oddly cute. That’s the only way Rene can think to describe Evan nibbling on a fry. But humans aren’t cute—they’re violent and destructive. “Okay.” Rene isn’t keen to spend his dinner with Evan, but he knows he needs to help with this case. He wants to help these children, and he
