CHAPTER TWOThe Duke’s guest rose to his feet saying, “I cannot thank Your Grace enough for your help and, of course, your inspiration. I know that no one ever leaves you without saying the same thing.” The Duke of Wellington smiled. “I am always delighted to hear it again.” His guest, who was the newly arrived Ambassador of one of the smaller countries represented in Paris, walked to the door, followed by his wife who had scarcely spoken since they arrived.
