Chapter 6 Orr scanned the area where they huddled together. This was no place to make camp. No water, no flat spot to pitch the tent, no good place to tether and feed the mules. He was going to have to stabilize the damned knee some way, get back on Maude, and ride another ten miles or so to the campsite he’d been heading for. Once there, he was going to have to rely on Jase a whole lot more than he had so far. Was the city man equal to the task? The only way to find out was to try. They damn well could not sit here and wait for manna from heaven or some magical white knight rescue. He glanced at Jase, who still knelt near him, looking anxious. “See if you can scrounge up a few straight sticks about fifteen to eighteen inches long.
