Orr drew a sharp breath and muttered a fast prayer. Although Katie was a good, steady mule, this was asking a lot of her. One step could be dangerous, one sudden and violent one could be disastrous. Bless her heart; she glanced down with a surprised expression, but she stood rock steady. Orr tied a fast knot on Rojo’s lead before he darted past the other two pack mules.
“Stay put. She’s not going to trample you. I’ll help you get out from under there and back on your feet.”
