“Them,” Nick whispered, beginning to tremble. It looked as if he were freezing to death, suffering from hypothermia. His arms and thighs shook, as well as his private parts. His head twitched a little to the right, then the left. “What’s wrong, Nick? What happened last night? Where have you been?” Truth was, Teddy already knew where the man had been—in the wheat field, and maybe in the belly of the unidentified flying object. God only knew what had happened to him inside. For all Teddy knew, Nick could have metal parasites in his bloodstream, alien algae underneath the surface of his skin, or some paralyzing membrane beneath the eight needle marks on his chest. “You’re not well.” He walked up to Nick, scanned him from head to toes. “We need to get you in the shower.” “Nick…Nick…Nick.”
