KAAGAD na inagaw ni Kalix ang tubig na inilahad ni Ren sa kanya nang makabalik siya sa kanyang upuan.

“This is really troublesome,” napailing si Kalix habang pinagmamasdan ang ilang pares na nasa dancefloor pa rin at nag-eensayo para sa sayaw.

The segment is called The Lovers Dance. Parte ito ng event ng Guanzons’ night na kung saan sasayaw ang mga single men na kasapi ng pamilyang Guanzons kasama ang kanilang mga ka-pares. But they only see their date at the event. Ang kasama nilang nag-eensayo ay ibang dancers. It’s a surprise event for them after all.

“I’m fine with my partner now, she’s sexy and probably the type of weak girl,” Kalix keeps on grinning as he stared at his partner trying to help the others.

“Malay niyo naman, Sir. Mas maganda ang kapareho ninyo sa Event. I hope you can keep up with the dance, then,” narinig ni Kalix ang mahinang pagtawa ni Ren kaya inirapan niya ito.

“I started doing participating in this dance when I turned 18. Ilang taon ko na itong ginagawa. Wala naman ako’ng nakatuluyan ni isa, except that I had a one night stand with most of them,” napahawak naman sa kanyang baba si Kalix habang inaalala ang nagdaang taon na ginawa niya ito.

“Well its part of the tradition, the pairing with other women. To other members of Guanzons being single especially when you’re a man is such a shame,” walang ganang saad naman ni Kalix.

“I just really want to avoid troublesome things,” dagdag pa nito.

“You’ll end up doing more troublesome things, you’re the son of the head of Guanzons, remember,” he clenched his fists upon hearing Ren’s words.

Isang malaking pamilya ang Guazonsz. Marami itong sangay. Isa sa mga dahilan kung bakit sila makapangyarihan ay dahil marami ang myembro nito at lahat sila ay halos maimpluwensya. They maintain their power by surpassing others at any cost, and by marrying off their sire to other powerful family.

Kalix’s Father, Alfredo Guanzons is one of the founding members of Guanzons. Mula sa orihinal na ugat ng pamilya, si Alfredo na lamang ang natitira, leaving the heaviest burden to Kalix. Alfredo’s almost out of the picture and the latest generation almost handles everything with Kalix’s leadership. Rumor has it that Alfredo was a wild opponent during his reign. They are expecting something like this with Kalix too.

Kalix’s reign is successful at some point. He was able to maintain the power by continuing his Father’s dirty works in terms of taking down an enemy. Marami na ring nawasak na pamilya o buhay at pangarap si Kalix upang makuntento ang kanyang ama.

“Why are you staring at your hands?” nagulantang naman si Kalix nang bigla siyang lapitan ni George ang pinsan niyang tanging kasundo niya.

“Nothing,” he looked away. He was staring at those hands because he is reminded of the things he did in the past.

“Bakit parang pakiramdam ko, alam ko ang dahilan?” umupo si George sa kanyang tabi.

“Wala ng Guanzons na may malinis na kamay, Kalix…” he laughed bitterly. “We are all compelled to protect this damn family’s power ever since we were born.”

“I know. That’s my duty to do,” Kalix then agreed.

“Kumusta nga pala si Campus?” napatanong naman si George.

“I silenced him. I threatened his whole family. I kidnapped her daughter. Umalis na siya at nagpakalayo,” sagot naman ni Kalix. Matagal na natahimik si George at binulabog ang sarili niyang isip.

“You sure you’re going to let him go like that? I’m surprised,” napatingin naman si George kay Kalix na napakalayo na ng tingin.

“Did you expect me to kill him?” tulirong tanong ni Kalix kay George.

“Here’s your mask,” napatayo kaagad si Eryn nang makita niya si Ren na pumasok sa silid. “Akala ko umalis ka na,” gulat nitong tanong.

“Paalis pa lang. Here,” iniabot naman ni Ren ang masquerade mask na gagamitin ni Eryn para sa party ngayong gabi. Ren is prepared to go. He’s black tuxedo. As usual, he’ll be there for Kalix.

“The plan still remains. You’ll be the substitute for Kalix’s partner.”

“I’m amazed you were able to talk to her,” ngiting saad naman ni Eryn habang hawak-hawak na niya ang masquerade. “I’m one of those who shortlisted the candidates for tonight’s event. It’s easy. I picked someone I know and bribed her with money. Don’t worry about that, that’s my job.” Umiling-iling ito nang mapansin niyang napakahaba na ng kanyang paliwanag.

“But…” he hesitated to talk. He took a long gaze with Eryn’s outfit. He was surprised to see her curly hair. Mukhang hindi niya inunat ito ngayon. She looks dazzling beautiful tonight. He feels down for it, because she’s going to use that beauty to someone who’s tainted.

“Isang sabi mo lang sa akin na aatras ka na sa plano’ng ito, Eryn…”

“Nope, Ren,” maagap na nagsalita si Eryn. “I am the brain of this plan. I’ll execute it,” she said confidently.

Humakbang palapit si Ren sa kanya at hinawakan ang buhok ni Eryn. “I missed your real hair,” he smiled.

“Okay ba? I was planning on having straight hair. But I guess my real hair isn’t so bad,” tuwang-tuwang sabi ni Eryn.

“Your hair was always beautiful,” binitawan naman ni Ren ang kanyang buhok.

“I should go, I’ll see you there. Make sure to make Kalix fall for you,” kumindat pa ito bago siya tuluyang lumabas ng silid.

Ilang sandali pa matapos nagpaalam ni Ren ay sumunod na rin si Eryn papunta ng venue. She was able to pass the security because of her VIP pass that Ren gave her. It was really a big relief that Ren was planted within the Guanzons family for a long time.

Eryn is aware of this event that the Guanzons is having every year but she didn’t expect it to be this luxurious.

Maraming guests at habang dumadaan si Eryn na nakasuot ang mask niya sa kanya at rinig niyang negosyo pa rin ang usapan ng mga ito.

Today’s venue is at the Grand Palace of Larcade. Legend says it all that the owner of this palace used to bear the name of Larcade and is invincible like a gold dragon.

The whole palace is shining like gold with bright and gigantic chandeliers on top. The ceiling consists of a huge painting of the gold dragon.

There’s a huge space at the center, probably reserved for the dance later.

Nahagip ni Eryn sa gilid ng kanyang mga mata ang malalgkit ng tingin ng kalalakihang dinaanan niya. Eryn still feels uncomfortable whenever she is being seen just like that.

She’s currently wearing, a gold backless long gown. It was given by the family of Guanzons, labag man sa kalooban niya ay sinuot pa rin niya.

The party started by the speech of Kalix. She watched Kalix talked at the front, this time she possessed the character of a leader whose heart is pure. She grinned as the people clapped their hands with his heartwarming speech.

“They’re worshipping the evil,” she smirked.

KAMUNTIKAN nang hindi makahabol si Eryn sa formation ng sayaw. Siya na lang pala ang wala sa linya. Hindi kasi siya masyadong aware sa blockings. She only practiced with one instructor. She’s afraid she might screw up Kalix later which is very ironic. Nang tumingin si Eryn sa kanyang kanan, ay natanaw niya si Kalix. Medyo may kalayuan silang mga babae sa mga lalaki. There is one line for girls and one line for boys, according to the choreography they are bound to meet and hold hands later.

Narinig ni Eryn ang hiyawan ng mga tao, there is also a live coverage for this party. This is going to be a trend tomorrow morning.

Napangiti nang wala sa sarili si Eryn nang mapansin niyang sinunod nga ni Kalix ang kanyang iminungkahing susuotin ngayong gabi. Again, she stole one moment to stare at him. Though he is wearing a mask, Eryn could imagine in his mind the true handsome face of Kalix she used to stare at when she was younger.

She prepared herself as the music starts. The music indeed silenced most of the audience as they hear Katy Perry’s song, Unconditionally.

Eryn focused on dancing some few steps as the girls started dancing before the boys. Luckily she was able to keep up with them.

When the boys started to dance, the girls paused. Eryn glanced by her side to watch Kalix dance. He was really good in dancing. It wasn’t that graceful but with full of manliness. Hindi niya maintindihan kung bakit kinakabahan siya.

As the chorus of the song is approaching, they slowly walk towards the center. This is the part where they hold hands together.

Habang papalapit si Eryn kay Kalix na nakatitig sa kanya ngayon ay para siyang nabibingi sa sarili niyang kaba. Maybe Kalix can’t recognize her tonight and the plan was to make him feel curiosity after this dance.

Nanlamig ang mga kamay ni Eryn nang hinawakan niya ang kamay ni Kalix at hinila siya palapit sa katawan nito. It felt like she was compelled to lock her eyes on Kalix.

Habang tumatagal siyang nakatitig sa kanyang mga mata ay parang may gustong ipahiwatig ang mga ito. It’s too vague for Eryn to perceive but she can’t be wrong of one thing.

Your eyes are heavy, Kalix

Nagulat si Eryn nang bigla siyang inikot ni Kalix gamit ang kanyang kamay. Masyadong mabilis ang steps at hindi na siya nakapalag nang niliyad siya ni Kalix.

“You’re spacing out,” he grinned. Nang inangat siya ni Kalix at napakapit siya sa kanyang balikat ay napabalik siya sa ulirat.

“Who are you?” he asked as she turned and swayed while Kalix is locking her in his arms.

“Are you a substitute?” nanlaki naman ang mga mata ni Eryn. Will she be caught this time? She missed that part that Kalix is smart too. He’s got trust issues.

“It’s okay, not my first time to see a substitute,” napansin naman ni Kalix na natahimik lang si Eryn kaya maagad siyang nagsalita ulit.

Kalix safely turned her and carried Eryn on his right arms as they do the most critical part—which is to make a turn for three times as Eryn will be holding on to his shoulders.

“Are you afraid?” Kalix might have felt Eryn’s heavy breath. “I can carry you. I won’t let you fall,”

Bahagyang napapikit si Eryn nang binuhat siya ni Kalix at umikit sila ng tatlong beses. Para siyang nabunutan ng tinik nang maka-survive sila sa pag-ikot.

Kalix let her go and then Eryn made a twirl to get back on his arms which is the last position they are about to make.

“What’s your name?” Kalix asked as Eryn safely landed in his arms while his other hand is holding onto her waist.

“Eryna. Eryna Arzaga.”
