{Hailey’s POV}
His face was so close to mine that I could almost hear his breathing. My mind was stuck processing what he just said.
‘Why don’t I show you that myself?’
What the heck was he talking about?
I stared at his face and saw him smirking at me like he had won something. I didn’t know why, but I suddenly got irritated, seeing how arrogant he looked. He must’ve thought that he got the control.
I crossed my arms over my chest, looking at him challengingly.
“You know, trespassing is a crime, right?”
He tsked. “No rules or law can stop me. I only make them, but it doesn’t apply to me.” I really hate how smug he sounded.
I scoffed, shaking my head in disbelief. “You don’t deserve to be an Alpha, then.” I spit the words out like venom, my eyes glaring daggers at his pitch-black ones. “A great leader should make a good example for his people. If a leader can’t even abide by the rules, how could you expect your people to be loyal to those rules? Being an Alpha doesn’t make you a God. You’re just like everyone else, so don’t be so full of yourself,” I stated.
I always hear Dad telling Ares that to be a leader is to be a servant. It’s important to treat everyone fairly and equally as we all comes from the Moon Goddess herself. A leader must inspire his people to believe in themselves instead of holding them back. And that makes my father one of the greatest Alpha Kings…
But I could not say the same for this guy in front of me.
He is a self-absorbed, arrogant, selfish prick who uses his power and position to corrupt people. And the fact that he is my mate doesn’t make everything better.
Despite the darkness of our surroundings, the way his eyes flashed with unknown emotion was still very visible in my vision.
Then, his face hardened.
“You have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Oh, trust me, I do. So, better steer clear of this land before I make sure you regret it,” I said seriously. Am I kidding? I have no idea. I know for a fact that you can’t hurt your mate without hurting yourself, so I don’t know if my threat will work on him.
He roamed his eyes around my face, the side of his jaw clenching, telling me that I was starting to get on his nerves.
“You have guts. No one has ever dared to speak to me that way.” I took an involuntary step back when he leaned his face even closer to mine. “Is it because you’re my mate? You think I will spare you just because of that?”
I swallowed, finding our close proximity rather suffocating…I don’t like that feeling. It makes me feel anxious and out of control. I find myself having a hard time breathing.
I clenched my fist. “Step back,” My voice sounded in pain.
“Why? Are you intimidated by me?” Instead of doing what I said, he did the opposite. He took another step, making me clench my fist tighter. My fists are inching to push him away.
I snapped my eyes shut and began breathing heavily. I could feel my water essence trying to come out. Sh/t. Hailey, get a grip.
I released a loud, frustrated sigh, then I opened my eyes and spoke authoritatively.
“I said, step back. Get the hell away from me!” I may not be my dad’s heir nor the future Luna Queen of our pack, but I still am an Alpha’s daughter. I was born with an Alpha’s blood so I have that kind of authority. By the aura and the voice.
His eyes slightly widened in surprise, clearly not expecting that. But the way he was looking at my face tells me that it’s not only because of that, though before either of us could speak, someone already did.
“Hailey,”
I quickly turned my head to my left side only to see Sapphire walking towards us, looking calm, but I could see the anger behind her tamed appearance. And my suspicion was only proven right when harsh wind slammed around us as she came to a stop.
I tucked a strand of loose hair behind my ears and then quickly scrambled away from the pitch-black-eyed Alpha who still watched me with hawk eyes.
I didn’t know if I would be thankful or nervous that Sapphire came. She would totally skin me alive!
Sapphire looked at me. “Go inside and fix yourself.”
Huh? “W-what–”
“Just do as I say, Hailey.” Her sharp eyes made me turn around and run for my life. I didn’t even care that she was left alone in the clearing with that obnoxious Alpha. All I cared about was to get away from her line of sight before she removed all the oxygen in my lungs.
I breathed a sigh of relief when I was finally inside the small living room. At this moment, all I wanted was to get my phone and call Dad. It’s my second night here and still…no changes. Not even a single sign that anything would turn out better.
I went behind the stairs where all my things were messily placed and rummaged through my luggage bag where I had stup/dly put my phone when I was still packing. I almost jumped in glee when I finally found it on the bottom part.
I have made a promise to myself that as long as I’m still here and not better, I would never make a call to anyone in the pack. But after two days of my stay, I’m already about to break that promise.
I looked at the screen and was about to open it when I saw my reflection. I froze, my eyes widening with each second that passed.
My eyes!
It was glowing bright blue! I forgot that whenever I lose control, my eyes tend to glow and change color. Fvck! I suddenly remembered what Sapphire had said earlier.
‘Go inside and fix yourself’
I cupped my face in frustration. Now I understand what she meant by that. Darn it. I wonder what that Alpha Lenoxx thought about me when he saw my face. The expression on his face didn’t change much though. No trace of anything.
I sighed and slumped down on the floor. I looked at my reflection on the screen one last time before I put the phone back inside the luggage bag. I’ve changed my mind. I will stick to my promise.
I heard the door shut closed, making me stand up instantly.
“I told you to stay away from him, didn’t I?” That was the first thing she said after she closed the door. And boy, was she mad.
I sighed and nodded my head. “I know, but I-I was telling him to—”
“And what are you even doing there? You could have been seriously hurt, do you know that?” It was the first that I really saw her angry, and trust me, it’s not a pretty sight to see.
“I have my water to protect me,” I reasoned out.
She scoffed and shook her head in disbelief. “You’re actually depending on that element of yours? You can’t even control it and you already expect it to save you and protect you from harm?” She tsked, looking disappointed. “I expected a lot from an Alpha King’s daughter but this is what I get? A spoiled girl who didn’t even know how to listen. Just great.” She muttered sarcastically and then began marching upstairs.
I flinched when I heard the door shut loudly.
I smiled sarcastically and flopped down on the couch. This is all that Lennox’s fault.
The next morning was worse than any other day. She woke me up with that annoying bell again and made me axe all the logs for three fvcking hours without any breakfast. Then, all I had at lunch was baby carrots and then, she made me dig several holes in the garden and when I came back, half of the things I brought with me were gone. Including my phone.
“I threw it all,” Sapphire said, looking dead serious.
My eyes widened. “What?!” I yelled in shock and frustration. “I did everything you told me to do and this is what I got?! I looked so dirty and smelled so fvcking bad after doing all those motherfvcking chores and this is what I got when I came back?!” I cursed loudly and stormed out.
I know that I didn’t listen to her, but that was just one single mistake. I was trying to make it up to her by being obedient, but no, sorry was never enough for her. She was punishing me!
I thought that after that day, she would finally cool off. I already got my punishment, right? No. The routine goes on for two months. We didn’t speak with each other casually and if not needed. She was back to her calm, bossy, strict, annoying self while tormenting me every day. I used to complain a lot, but after realizing that I didn’t really have a choice in that matter, I learned to just obey everything she said.
No further questions ask.
My element seemed to get worse each day and it was making me insane. I’m a very vocal person but I never told Sapphire about it ‘cause she never bothered asking. It was so hard. Like this one time, I was planting seeds in the garden when, all of a sudden, I felt heaviness in my chest and then I found myself having trouble breathing. Then, in a blink of an eye, the whole garden was destroyed and I don’t remember a thing about how it happened.
But the worst part of it was I had to restore the freaking garden.
“Make sure to water the plants and remove all dead leaves. Be done with it quickly. You still have a lot of chores to do.” Sapphire walked passed me to get her hat.
My brows ran together in confusion. “Where are you going?”
This would be the second time that she would leave the house. I have already made an assumption that the reason why she rarely goes out was because she wasn’t allowed to set foot on the pack three hundred meters away from this land. I had already seen some of the pack members when I was in the woods getting some logs and all I could say was that all of them were not too fond of Sapphire.
And since I’m living with Sapphire, that makes me another person to dislike. Not that I mind though. I could careless enough about those people.
Sapphire looked at me for a short moment before turning around to leave, but not before saying, “Finish all your chores before I get back.” And then, she left.
I blew out a strangled breath and kicked the couch in frustration.

“…great job, Tom. You blossomed up well though I couldn’t say the same to you, Pump. You need a lot of water.” I sprayed water on the soil of the dying pumpkin before removing all the dead leaves.
These vegetables have already grown on me, to say the least. Turns out, it was relaxing and therapeutic to take care of them. My favorite among them all was Tom, the tomato who had grown really big for the past two months. And to say that I’m a proud and happy mother was an understatement.
“Hmm…what should we do to you, little baby carrots?” I giggled and sprayed more water.
“I didn’t know that it was possible for someone to understand plants and vegetables.” Someone suddenly spoke behind me, making me jump in surprise.
I immediately turned around and saw a…boy?
He looked to be around seven years old and he was looking at me with full of judgment with his arms crossed over his chest. Excuse me?
I blinked.
“What?” He scowled at me.
“Uh…who are you? Where are your parents? Are you lost?”
“Oh, hush! Your questions are making me nauseous. You speak like I was a kid.”
I looked at him flatly. “You are a kid.”
“No! I’m not a kid. I—”
Suddenly, there was a loud growl that resounded not too far from where we were standing. I tensed up and roamed my eyes around until they stopped and focused on a big black wolf.
“He found me,” I heard the little boy whine but my attention was solely focused on the familiar pitch-black-eyed wolf, growling, and oh boy, was he mad.
