Chapter Twenty Autumn 1999 Moving to London was a revelation for Gemma. She ended up sharing a flat with two other girls and a boy. They were OK. One of the girls was a bit obnoxious. She seemed to have a different boyfriend every week. But the other girl was openly gay – too butch for Gemma’s tastes but the two of them soon became good friends. It was Sally who introduced Gemma to a lesbian support group at the university. Suddenly she found herself amongst girls who were going through, or had already been through the same kind of mental anguish as Gemma. It was such a relief to know she wasn’t alone and could talk openly about her feelings. A surprising number of the girls admitted to being bisexual. Some of the harder line pure lesbians were pretty scathing about bisexual feelings.
