A Warm Welcome

A luxurious car was waiting outside—a sleek, black vehicle with a glossy finish, a streamlined body, and tinted windows. It was the kind of car you saw and immediately knew you couldn’t afford, no matter how long you saved. How on earth could a college student own something like that? I knew the principal had mentioned this was a school for wealthy kids, but I hadn’t expected it to be this extreme. I barely had time to process the sight of the car because my one-night stand, who I’d assumed I’d never see again, was leaning against it, glaring at me with eyes that seemed to belong to the devil himself. Goosebumps rose all over my skin as I approached him. “Well, I didn’t expect to see you again. What a happy coincidence,” he said, his voice tinged with surprise. If I didn’t know better, I might have believed he truly hadn’t expected to see me. But this was the same guy who had forced the principal to send me to a school full of dangerous men. I didn’t know what kind of game he was playing, but I was sure I didn’t want to be involved in it. I stood in front of him, speechless. The two guys who had carried my luggage were already seated in the car, waiting patiently for us to finish. They had been brash in the hall before—even talking harshly to the principal himself—yet they acted like obedient children around him, as if they feared the consequences of interrupting us. This was insane. I regretted listening to my parents and accepting the admission. Now look where I was. “Do you have nothing to say?” He raised an eyebrow at me. “I have nothing to say.” “Alright then. Get in the car,” he said, opening the door with a teasing smirk on his face—how gentlemanly. I got into the car obediently, because honestly, what else was I supposed to do? I had no doubt this guy would take me even if they had to drag me. Seeing how even the principal hadn’t been able to refuse them, I didn’t think anyone could stop them. I glanced at the man beside me. Yes, he was still as breathtaking as ever. It had been two weeks, but I hadn’t been able to completely get him out of my mind, no matter how much I tried. Killian, that was his name. It was a nice name, really. But he wasn’t a nice guy. This situation felt like something out of a story—being taken by three handsome men to a school full of rich bad boys. It sounded like a romance fic… or maybe a horror story if I ended up getting killed. A shiver ran down my spine at the thought. How would I survive being the only girl in the entire school? Would I have a separate room? A different bathroom? And what about all the things I needed? There would be no one to talk to, no girls to have sleepovers with. Instead, I was stuck with men—hot-tempered, dangerous men. The ride was mostly quiet, aside from the rock music playing in the car. Occasionally, I pressed my face to the window, staring hopelessly at the forest that seemed to stretch on and on as we drove. Wherever the Underground Sector was, it had to be in the middle of nowhere. We had been driving for two hours, and I hadn’t seen a single house—just endless trees. The streets were deserted, too. I wondered who in their right mind had thought it was a good idea to build a school in the middle of nowhere. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I saw a large gate ahead. Two men were standing outside, both large with bulging muscles and holding the biggest guns I’d ever seen in my life. They didn’t say anything as one of them pressed a remote, and the gates—reminiscent of a prison yard—opened. We drove in. Then there was more driving, more trees, and finally, a castle. My mouth fell open at the sight of the castle-like school. It was grand and luxurious, towering over us like the multi-million-dollar mansions I used to see in magazines. It looked even grander than the Average Sector I’d been to. But this place was dark; the whole atmosphere was gloomy, and the building’s walls were painted a dark gray. There weren’t any rose gardens like the Average wing; the only colorful thing here was the line of expensive cars parked in front. Killian opened his door and got out. When I didn’t move, he shot me a disapproving look. I scrambled out quickly; the man could be so intimidating. One look from him, and it was like he would destroy me if I didn’t obey. I followed him toward the building, the halls empty. Not a single person was in sight; maybe they were all in class. “Take her things to my room.” “Yes, boss.” “Wait… why are my things going to your room?” Since when did girls and boys share rooms? That was wrong on so many levels. I hoped it was a joke; the last thing I wanted was to share an apartment with the guy I’d slept with. Sure, he was hot, but that didn’t mean I wanted to sleep with him again. I knew now that he wasn’t someone to mess with. I’d seen the way others looked at him, like he had authority over them all. Plus, Principal Brian had warned me multiple times to stay away from Killian. He must have had his reasons. And if Killian ever found out the reason I’d slept with him was to complete a dare… I didn’t want to imagine his reaction. “Relax, darling. Nothing will happen.” The amusement in his eyes made me doubt his words. He was messing with me—I knew it. Before I could protest, he grabbed my hand and led me forward. The two men who had come with us had already left to fulfill Killian’s order. We stopped in front of a room with a wooden door, and I flinched as Killian kicked it open. He could have just knocked, but no, he chose to break the door instead. Was this how people opened doors here? “Boss,” a blond guy greeted him from behind a desk. The room was luxurious, with a large bookshelf filled with books, high ceilings, and tall windows letting in plenty of natural light. Rich, dark wood furniture, plush leather chairs, and a massive mahogany desk adorned the space. The walls were decorated with exquisite artwork, and a crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling. It was a space fit for a CEO—or someone very rich. Yet here was a guy around my age, with strawberry blond hair, blue eyes, and tattoos on his neck, lounging as if he owned it. “I’m guessing she’s the one you’ve been fussing about.” “Shut up,” Killian growled. The blond obediently kept quiet, though he kept looking at me intensely, as if I were a mystery he wanted to solve. I barely noticed; I was too busy wondering why Killian had been fussing over me. “Alright, motherfuckers. Gather in the yard, and I’ll kill anyone who’s late!” he announced into a microphone on the desk. He turned to me and led me out of the room. I had no idea what was going on, and honestly, I didn’t want to know. I would have appreciated it if he’d just let me retire to my room and reflect on the mistakes I’d made in life. --- When Principal Brian had said the Underground Sector was only for men, he wasn’t exaggerating. There were over three hundred guys, all looking dangerous in their own way, staring me down. Why? Because apparently, they hadn’t seen a girl in a very long time. “Man, I forgot how curvy they are.” “Look at those boobs; I could stare at them all day.” “She’s pretty hot, bro; I wouldn’t mind getting a piece of that ass.” They were saying all sorts of things, and the way they looked at me was terrifying, as if each one wanted to pounce on me. I might have run if Killian’s arm wasn’t wrapped around my waist. He was standing so close. Since when was it okay to hold a girl like this without her consent? But I knew better than to say anything. “This is Jade, our new student,” Killian announced with a dangerous smirk. “And I know what you’re all thinking—she looks like a girl, right? Well, she’s not. Jade is a guy.” Uh… what? “Yes, boss,” the guys echoed, nodding as if they believed him, as though my boobs weren’t clearly peeking out of my shirt. If Killian had told them I was a lizard, they’d probably have accepted it too. What was wrong with these people? “You will treat him as a brother, take good care of him. Touching is off-limits, looking is off-limits, and talking to him will get you a bullet in the skull.” “Yes, boss.” “Alright, let’s give him a warm welcome.” To my horror, they all pulled out guns hidden under their uniforms. Why the hell did everyone have a gun? The deafening sound of shots fired into the air made me cover my ears. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore. I sank to my knees, grateful that Killian didn’t try to hold me up this time. I stared at the tattooed, pierced men with guns and thought to myself, What the hell have I gotten myself into?
