I had never seen Lila this sick since the day she had been born. The look on her eyes matched the fear in mine as I stayed at her side. I was left at the mercy of a man who showed one kind act, and I begged God for his skilled hands to protect and save my daughter. I watched for what felt like an eternity before he eventually turned to me and gave a reassuring smile. At first, I was worried that perhaps he was more maniacal than I had first thought. But as he explained how she had a small fever brought on by a cold and that he would monitor her, I began to understand that he had kind intentions; at least for now.  I could not sleep a wink as I used the base of the bed as a support for my back while my eyes flickered up and down to Lila and back down to my phone. Jack moved about the room
