Chapter Fourteen Monday at the museum was a delightful day. There werenew paintings—ones I particularly liked being arranged for a new showing. Allthe Nick Ritter sculptures had been shipped off the week before, back to wherethey belonged in his Paris gallery. I couldn’t have been happier. What replacedhis work was an exhibition of pastels, summery watercolor prints I loved. If I weren’tin the position with Geoff I was now, I would have begged him to buy me one,and he probably would have. Figuring that wasn’t possible, I spent as much timeas I could helping the gallery designers get the show ready for the opening thefollowing Friday. I realized that I wouldn’t need to go through the tribunalthat night, seeing that it was my job to be at the gallery for such a specialoccasion. Small consol
