10 We took our seats, and the table was so wide that the ends accommodated two chairs for our hosts. Rhia sat on the right, and the seat to her right was my assigned spot while Tristan garnered the chair opposite me. After all had been seated Penyll stood and raised his cup of wine. “Let us all give thanks to our friends who saved the woods above from a most terrible destruction.” All rose from their seats, though many rather reluctantly and Herne most of all, and raised their glasses to us. Penyll swallowed the whole of his glass while the others took long sips. He dropped back into his seat and the merriment resumed, with much chatter among the other guests. I heard topics range from the size of the herds to tales of encounters with men of old who were long since in their graves.
