20 At the pronouncement, those on the stage clambered down the stairs and joined the pair at the doors. Welles, too, tried the doors. They didn't budge an inch. He whipped his head to his left where the befuddled Hulda stood. "What the hell's going on here? Find your keys and get us out of here!" he snapped. Hulda's shoulders drooped and he hung his head. "They're just not here." "The spirit may have stolen them when they stole Mr. Lupe," Findlay guessed. "What about the back way?" Marlowe suggested. "It's locked, too," Hickey spoke up as he strode up the aisle. "I just checked it." "What about your set of keys?" Hulda asked him. Hickey shook his head. "Can't find 'em." "Then why don't we just bust the doors down?" Welles suggested. "Surely there's enough of us to do that!
