Chapter 20

Adaline's POV

After dinner we all went to the entertainment room, as they called it. It was insane. They had a flat screen that covered an entire wall with two rows of couches and seats that surrounded what looked to be a giant beanbag that could easily fit 6 people. It also had a separate bar area and a gaming area with a pool table and some arcade games. James and Sawyer climbed into the beanbag chair and wanted to watch cartoons. Mikayla put some on so the rest of us could sit down and talk.

"Mikayla, how far along are you?" She looked maybe a couple months along but definitely showing. "I am 3 months, only 2 more to go, I am ready to have this baby out of me!" I know my face looked crazy at this point because they all started giggling "did you say 3 months? How do you look around 5 and how is there only 2 months to go? I mean I know James is 2, but I'm pretty positive I was pregnant for 9 months." She started to laugh "I do not think I could do 9. As werewolves, we only have a pregnancy of 5 months, it is a sped-up process and the pups grow much faster than human babies." Huh I thought, "well that must be nice! I hope this isn't a dumb question, but you say pups, are you in wolf form or human form when you give birth and are they in wolf form when they are born?" Holden started laughing and Mikayla elbowed him hard in the side "OW" she smirked at him "Well don't laugh, and no that wasn't a stupid question, honestly no question will be stupid as you have no idea how it works and that is okay" the last part she said angerly while looking at Holden. Oh, she definitely wears the pants in this relationship.

"We give birth in human form and the babies are also in human form as they don't shift for the first time until 18. We just call them pups because we are wolves." Okay, that isn't too bad, "so since Barrett is the alpha, right, is Sam the beta because he is the beta's son? Are you born into all the roles?" Sam chimed in this time. "No, not typically, it just means we have blood rank basically makes us stronger than most wolves. I got chosen as Beta because Barrett and I are super close. Most of the time, you choose your brother or best friend. It tends to be the child of the current ranking, but there are cases where I have met Betas, who is friends and non-ranked." I looked at the boys playing on the beanbag, "Sawyer will most likely be Beta then, right?" I saw Barrett staring at the boys "It all depends on who the alpha chooses but possibly" Holden was looking at the two of us with a smirk now. "Yep I was blushing like crazy now. "But since he is older than the Alpha will that work? I mean, doesn't the alpha have to be the oldest? Could Sawyer become the alpha?"

"No, it has to be blood ranked alpha. It will have to be Barrett's first born." Sam stated. Does that mean I have to give him a baby? Oh God I don't think I can do that! "Not necessarily" came from Barrett. " Technically, I can choose who I want. I could say Sawyer or even James if he chose later in life, but traditionally and to make sure the next alpha is respected, yes, it would have to be my first born." Crap. "What if your first born is a girl? Has that ever happened? Could that be possible?" Barrett grabbed my hand. "I know your curious but I can feel you starting to freak out a little bit, so maybe we should talk about this later?" Dammit Adaline breathe and calm the hell down! "No, it is okay, I want to know. I mean I definitely should know and deserve to know, especially if I am meant to carry the next heir, right?" He tried to hide the massive smile he got from that sentence but he failed miserably. I smiled back. "Do I have to be turned before I get pregnant? Not that I want to be pregnant right now, but you know just to know for the future, the possible future" real smooth Adaline. "Most likely to be safe for you and the pup yes you will have to be turned first, I obviously know that I haven't had a regular pregnancy but I think from having a wolf one it could become very dangerous. I don't think your body could grow with the pup as it does because it is so fast." I guess that makes sense.

"I think it is time to get these little ones to bed. We don't want them cranky in the morning, especially with all the fun we have planned!" The older woman from earlier said as she came in and walked towards the boys. "Mommy do we have to?" Always a sleep fighter. "Yes mister you do, but you'll be in Sawyers room so when you both wake up you can play together okay?" He ran to hug me, I squeezed him tight "good night my baby I love you" with a kiss he jumped out of my arms. "Luna" she said with a bow "my apologies I have forget to give you my name amongst all the crazy today, I am Elizabeth but you can call me Lizzy" I smiled to her "please Lizzy call me Adaline, it is okay." She looked to Barrett who nodded, "Adaline she technically cant due to your rank, but we can allow it when it is just the main group." Oh yeah I forgot rank. With a bow she took out the boys to put them to bed.

"I am actually quite tired myself, it has been a really different day for me" I chuckled. " If you all wouldn't mind, I think I am going to head to my room, which I have no idea where it is, so Barrett, will you show me please, and can we also stop by the boys so I know where they are as well?" He took me up to the third floor where Sam and Heathers rooms were, "This is mainly Sam and Heathers floor, some smaller rooms at the end are for guests." This floor had at least 10 rooms. We passed by two rooms "those are Sam and Heathers offices", then we came to the last two on this side of the hall. He opened the second to last door and this room was huge, had a play area, a sleeping area and looked like a bathroom off to the back. This was like a mini studio apartment as a nursery. "Oh my god this place is huge". I saw the two boys snugged up in a very large crib. I walked over and stroked James's cheek. He smiled slightly. "Good night my baby, I love you so much." Sawyer wiggled a little so I rearranged both of them and covered them up. I turned around and saw Barrett smiling with his arms crossed leaning on the door. "What?"

"Nothing, just admiring you, even with someone else's baby you still take care of both." We walked up the stairs again. " Well, I mean yeah, they are babies and its kind of a natural instinct I think." He laughed, "the instinct of a mother and Luna maybe." We came to two large doors on the top floor at the end of the long hallway one across from the other. "Mines here on the left, your room is all set up on the right, if you need anything, and I mean anything do not hesitate to knock." I think I want him to stay with me a little longer maybe, he turned to go towards his room, "hey Barrett" he turned back "Yeah? What's wrong?" I let out a breath "Uhm do you think maybe you could stay with me a bit until I fall asleep. It's just I don't know this place well and I guess having you right near me helps me." He smiled at me and came a little closer and grabbed my waist, "Yeah of course, let me go shower and get changed and I'll be right over. You get showered up too before I come over okay?" Okay now I am picturing him showering, dammit Adaline get your head straight, he growled lightly "Adaline, I told you I would wait for everything until you are ready but it makes it quite hard when you get aroused like that and I can smell it." I blushed "I'm sorry I am going to go in and shower in a very cold shower i'll see you in a bit." Yep a very COLD shower is needed, I closed the door behind me, holy cow this room! The room was in soft blue and silver tones. A large king-sized bed sat in the middle of the right wall, there was a large seating area with a couch and TV off to the left. A set of double doors which led to a walk-in closet and a large door that led to a bathroom the size of a bedroom. The shower was big enough that they were able to fit a clawfoot tub inside that would be used quite a bit, but first a cold shower.
