They left ten minutes behind the scheduled time and reached Longhorn Cavern in ten minutes. Located atop Backbone Ridge, a small chain of beautiful limestone hills, Longhorn Cavern State Park offered many outdoor activities to fill their day. They admired the park’s architectural wonders, buildings that dated back to even the 1930s. Take a leisurely hike along the Backbone Ridge trail system, they enjoyed a picnic snack under an old grove of Hill Country trees. They went up to the historic CCC Observation Tower and enjoyed a 360-degree view of the Texas Hill Country, including the nearby Falkenstein Castle. Then they returned to the camp for lunch.
