MORGAN SHIVERED IN the night air. The wind might have died down, but it felt cold enough that it wouldn"t surprise her to see frost the next morning. Everything seemed to echo in the night, and the sound of an old barn owl hooting made her jump. Gabe squeezed her hand in reassurance, and Jenny hid her smile when she saw his action. Their footsteps sounded loud as they stepped on dry twigs, cracking them, the sound echoing in the stillness. Their movements made a few of the local wildlife dodge them, scurrying in the cover of darkness to find a hiding spot.
