THE HIGH-PITCHED SQUEALS of excitement pushed whatever the adults were thinking onto the back burner. The digging had hit the wood of the chest with a resounding thud. Ben and Gabe looked at each other; the chest they had buried the night before was not wood. Gabe gave a low whistle to attract Jenny"s attention. "Go get Winnie. I think we have a problem here," he hissed when she looked his way. Jenny didn"t hesitate or ask questions; she turned on her heel and ran. She grabbed her grandmother by the arm and dragged her forward so she stood at the pit of the hole that had been dug. The older woman looked at the depth of the hole and knew something was off. "Get it out of there, you two. But don"t open it," she instructed the two men who were ready to jump in the hole and drag it out.
