CHAPTER 13

1082 Words
The moment Karille emerged from the kitchen’s door, the world seemed to screech to a full on halt. Her eyes were wide as saucers as she looked at the man who was standing behind her best friend. This no-boyfriend-since-birth best friend of hers had a… n***d… goddamn Greek god incarnate in her house!!! Is this freaking real?!! She felt as though she would be having a nosebleed if she stared any longer at that yummy piece of man meat. “Hey, you came…” Zary said weakly, completely flustered. This was the very first time she had ever seen Zary being this flustered! She was even panicking, right? No one and nothing ever made Zary react like this before. She was that kind of woman many girls envy not only because of her riches and high status and gorgeous appearance, but because of her ability to remain seemingly unbothered even during extremely stressful times. She always had control over her own emotions and that was why she was always level-headed, reliable and elegant. She was the type who seemed to never make stupid decisions and most of all, the kind of woman who does not seem to need a man at all. Zary was the perfect and model definition of how a super woman should look like and behave in her eyes. Now this same superwoman who was suffering from phobia of men was right here, being all flustered and as red as a ripened tomato, while hiding her Michelangelo incarnate right behind her. Karille was as shocked as Zary right now though. She could clearly see that the man was probably not wearing a single stitch of thread underneath that apron! Wow! Who would have thought that her cool and placid best friend Zary would have such a racy and interesting hobby such as this for her man? Karille was chuckling to herself as she internally cheered her best friend on as she had long since encouraged Zary to get on with finding a man as her partner. Perhaps she had gotten her phobia fixed and that was why there was this appearance of this hot and sizzling stranger with Zary. “Er… I thought… uhm… I just rushed up here because I had heard you didn’t go to work today. I know you will never take any days off unless you’re seriously sick. So I just rushed over and,” Karille spoke like someone was chasing her, “…well, anyway. Now that I see that you’re toooooootally fine, I’ll be taking my leave.” Karille had to tease Zary and she waggled her brows at her best friend, causing her to be even more flustered. Seeing Zary behaving this way was fresh and Karille could not help but enjoy it. She then turned but before taking a step forward, she looked over her shoulder and eyed Zary with a knowing look. “Call me soon.” She winked and then left, laughing out happily as she walked off. She ignored Zary even as Zary was calling out, asking for her to wait. The door then shut closed behind Karille. She was like a tornado who had barged in and out and left everyone else stunned and speechless in her wake. Zary could only run her palms over her still blazing hot face. Then she turned to Sam with a slightly apologetic look. She bit down on her lower lip and then let out a heavy sigh. “Go get dressed, Sam. We’ll go out shopping to get some clothes for you.” she said and just as she was about to walk away, Sam caught her wrist in his large hands. “Alright, I’ll go.” He led her to the table and then pulled out a chair for her before pressing her down to sit. “Eat while you wait for me to get dressed.” She then watched him leave and her gaze subsequently fell on the pair of sandwich triangles that he had prepared for her. It looked so tasty and mouth watering that whatever panic or embarrassment she had just experienced a while ago, made her laugh out loud. She could only shook her head before proceeding to devour her breakfast. … The duo stepped out of her luxurious penthouse some moments later. Sam ended up wearing another large hoodie as the clothes Zary had bought for him yesterday were all too tight on him. Zary was currently on her phone, speaking to Karille. Her best friend was ecstatic to know more about Sam, but Zary told her that they would talk more about this matter later on and immediately changed the topic. She asked about Karille’s situation. It had been a while since Karille had called her just to talk. “I’m fine, Zar. Actually, our divorce will be finalised by the end of the week.” Karille said on the other side of the phone. Her voice sounded light and there was a hint of thankfulness in it as well. Zary let out a sigh of relief. “I’m so glad to hear that, Kar.” She replied as a sense of reassurance and gladness flooded her. Her best friend will finally be freed from that bastard! Once and for all! “Yes. I will finally be free, Zary. Once this is over, I promise to focus everything on myself and my son.” Karille’s voice was full of optimism and hope for a better future for both mother and son. “That’s right. I will be here, always supporting you, Kar. Don’t you forget that!” “I know. You’ve always been there for me. You’re my angel Zarina. Mwaks!” Karille giggled into the phone. Zary smiled. “I thought you said I’m your guardian devil. When did I get that promotion? Or did I miss the notice?” Zary joked along with her. This was a rare occurrence where the both of them were light hearted and at peace with things in their lives at the moment. Karilled laughed and the two ended their call with wide smiles on their faces because Zary was about to drive. At one corner in the underground garage, two people stood next to a trash can. A garbage collector was holding a bear hoodie that was ripped and stained with blood as the security guard was scrutinizing it. Zary did not catch that scene as she was busy manoeuvring her car to leave the garage.
