Chapter 5: First Day Training

Artemis's POV Now what!? If it wasn't because of the annoying and smart-ass self of mine. I wouldn't have said something out loud and got stuck with this male. Yeah, you know who he is, Perseus dirt-filled brain Jackson. Speaking of that, we agreed to have a meeting for his first training of becoming a God this morning and now he's no where to be seen. Great, just great. Just when I was about to give up waiting and go back to my camp. He suddenly showed up with messy hair as always, half-asleep face and a shirt that wasn't buttoned properly. Gods, he's such a mess! "Sorry for making you wait." He apologised, scratching his arm. "I was tired so..." "No need to say anything. I understand." I said, closing my eyes and held my hand up to stop him. His face lit up from that. But then I folded my arms with my chin held high. "Perhaps this is part of the instincts of males. Those that are lack of responsibility and like make up excuses for their mistakes." "Uh...do you think it's a little too harsh" he raised his eyebrows. "I was late for only a few minutes" "Just to let you know Mr. Jackson" I looked down at him. "Time is a valuable thing to us gods and we don't waste our time to things that aren't worthy. Perhaps that you think a time controller like you can manipulate it and think it as an exception. But that means with me, you are nothing but no other than just waste." "Oh I'm sorry Milady if I said something that offended you" he said sarcastically while pointing to his chest. "Please keep in mind that I came just for training under order of the King. Also you were the one that volunteered to help me. So perhaps you can try to remove some of the attitudes and grudges against males and that also means me instead." "You...." I pointed my finger at him with my ears shooting out steam but didn't know how to counter it. Why Artemis? Why did you volunteer yourself into this. Twice you've gotten your tongue twisted while being loathed at. I was wrong to underestimate him. The dumb appearance he displayed could be just a shield for him to not get into troubles. Who'd have known what was hiding under that skin. He had a tongue as vicious as a snake. If I didn't say that those stupid words 'I'll WILL DO IT' I wouldn't be suffering like this right now. I tried to contain my anger and glared him. He needs to pay. "You want training?" I faked a smile, my eyes showed the cruelty and malice. "And training shall you have." "Ok so what do we do first?" He smiled back at me. Boys, you don't know what you're gonna get. I cleared my throat and made another step closer to him. "Well...Catch the elevator and run from the highest floor of the Empire State Building down to the lowest 100 times. Clean up the gardens, remove the boulders, after that run around Olympus 500 laps. Push up 100 and bring the boulders back to its original place..." I said without a breath "Wait-" He tried to protest but of course, I wouldn't let him. "Also repeat this until the sun is set and you can stop until you get a word from Apollo that it is nighttime" I finished and smiled up at him innocently and blinking my eyes deliberately at the same time, knowing that was enough torture for him in a day. "What's the point of running and cleaning anyway?" He asked. "Do gods always clean the gardens and do those meaningless jobs?" "That is how I was trained Jackson" I walked closer to him. "And you are in no position to question that" Percy glared at me, I knew he was mad. I could see the fire was burning up. His fists folded into a ball. I held my chin even higher toward him with my smile. One impulsive move from him and I could get grid off him perhaps forever. Also I get to attack him back (which would be more severe) with an excuse that he attack me first. Percy somehow swallowed down that anger and gave me a sarcastic bow. "As you wish...Milady" With that, he ran away for his job and I just sat there against a tree and enjoy the view and the freshness of the early morning air. 3 hours later I deemed it had been along time and I assumed he had done the first job which was running up and down the Empire State Building. Deep down I still felt guilty about it though. But come on, why should I care about a male anyway? Beside he dared to contradict me. This is just a lesson for him not to try to be on my bad side again next. "Hey what are you doing?" I yelled and walked to him. "You are supposed to clean the gardens after running. Why are you removing the boulders now?" To my surprise, he threw the large rock he was holding over the cliff and glared back at me. "Look" he pointed his finger towards my direction and I unknowingly stepped back. "I don't give a dam how you picture me to do the jobs ok? You told me to do those jobs? Fine I'll do it. Beside you didn't tell me to do it in order, so I can rearrange that as long as I can complete your meaningless jobs. So can you please stay aside because you are interrupting my training." I glared back at him. How dare you talk back to me you bloody moron. I stared back at him, I swear I could see electric sparks shot out from my eyes towards him. Right now we both had a staring competition. I'm sure my temperature was increasing. How dare this man talk back to me like that. I've lived for 3000 years and not even my father ever said something like this to me. And yet, this new God who has loathed me not once but three times. I just wanted to rip his head open right there. But of course, I would be punished by doing that. Unless, I have an reason to do so... "You have guts to talk like that" I folded my arms and raised my eyebrows at him. "If you don't like my training plan then we can change it." He gave me a frown and I just smiled at him. "Duel with me" I said. "You win, you do what you want. You lose, don't complain what I tell you and stay under my control." He stopped and thought for awhile. "Hey that's not fair. I mean you've had three thousand years of holding a sword. The most I've practiced with a swords was a few years back. How can I possibly beat you?" "Well it's because you are stupid and unlucky" I said in a singing voice and smirked at him. "I'm not stupid!" He bellowed. "Fine then prove it to me then" I leaned closer. He glared at me. "You want a duel? Then you shall have it." Then he realised what he just said and quickly covered his mouth. Too bad it already came out. I laughed so hard that my stomach hurt. Finally I got my revenge bad. Oh just how I loved those good old days. "Told you you are stupid." I mocked him even more. He growled and glared at me but he had no reason to refuse now. I contained my laughter and stared at him. I laughed inside as my evil instinct was about to be released. It'd been so long since someone last saw it. "So where's my sword?" He asked grumbly. I threw one to his face as he caught it in time. We both got into our position and I started to count. The third count came down and I lung at him before he could even raise his sword. My blade made impact on the ground, just inches from him. He i***t had time to jump back or more like just crouched down and somehow he got lucky that he fell backwards. I swung my sword in an arch, attempting to remove him head from that pathetic shoulders. Again the i***t widened his eyes and laid flat on the ground as if he wanted to kiss it. My blade just only cut some hair at the tip of his head. "Wait wait wait" he sat up and held up his hands in surrender, he didn't bother to take the weapon anymore. "Can we slow down for a bit. I think this is too much for my level." "There's not break in sparing. Take this!" I snarled and lunged at him again. At that point, he just left his weapon and started to run for his life. My intention wasn't to spare at all. I wanted to split that head off him. Let's see if he can talk. I slashed my sword and the i***t just somehow got lucky as he span around the trunk of a tree and my blade just landed on it instead. I attempted to swing my sword again, only to make a long cut on his shirt. The i***t was bad in combat, but he sure was a fast runner. Even with all my training, I somehow could never catch up to him in time. It was like he always had that step before me. "Wait Artemis" he screamed. "I think we should talk this out! I mean I'm sorry about earlier ok!" "Arg to Hades with you male!" I bellowed and charged at him. I chased him pretty much around the Eastern garden of Olympus for nearly fifty times from the starting point and all I could cut was his shirt and hair. We gods had stamina to run forever, but I just couldn't chase him like this. Time to end this. As I was running, I summoned my bow and shot an arrow at him. The arrow flew through his shoulder, millimetres from making contact on that skin of his. The arrow buried into the wall before Perseus and he braked immediately. He stared at the arrow and then back at me. "Hey it's not fair!" He exclaimed. "You promised this was just a duel. Now you want to kill me too?" "Took you long enough to realise it." I relied to him and shot another arrow. I picked up the pace and started running again. I knew I would be wasting my time to shoot him down. I wanted to gut him myself. So I should arrows only to have them stuck on the wall in front of him so that he changed his direction in the way I wanted him to be. He kept running and I kept shooting, leading him into a trap he didn't realise. Finally, I had him cornered between two large boulders. He pressed himself as close as possible to the surface of the rock while sweats were raining down on him. "H-hey" he tried to grin. "You know you will get into trouble if you kill me right? I mean I can't die anyway" "That's the point!" I told him. "That's mean that I get to gut you over and over again. Also I'll just make this up as an excuse for accidents that happen during training. Everyone on Olympus knows how hard is my training, so they would expect you to suffer some injuries." "They will believe me!" He argued. "Yeah right" I rolled my eyes at him and walked closer. I took out my dagger and he swallowed hard. "So...where were we again?" I smiled evilly at him. "Uh you were debating where you should let me go. I think you should so bye!" He attempted to walk away without notice. I immediately threw my dagger at him and it made a cut on his arm before buried itself to the boulder behind him. He winced and covered the wound. "Hey that hurts!" he yelled. "Don't worry. There's more to come" With that, I charged up at him. Third person' POV Artemis made her charge, about to bury her blade at his shoulder when Percy due to his normal instinct just crouched down and held up his forearms as a shield. A spark of energy suddenly shot out from him and covered the entire region. Percy reluctantly opened his eyes after awhile of not feeling the touch of Artemis dagger on his skin. His eyes widened when everything around him was now standing still. Even Artemis herself was freezing at the spot. He checked himself to see whether he had lost an arm or leg so he was in reincarnation process. But it wasn't like it. He saw a butterfly flying from a afar. However, the moment it flew into the region just five meters from him. The butterfly suddenly froze on midair. He finally understood it. He wasn't dead. It just that he managed to stop time somehow for a small region. Then he realised it. The fear was the factor that triggered his power. Before Artemis could cut him, he had that funny feeling in the stomach and the next minute. Things were frozen. He tried to concentrate, then the tug in the stomach came again and he was shot back to the place he was standing a moment ago. He was still disoriented from what just happened when he looked at Artemis as she walked closer. "Don't worry. There's more to come" She held up her dagger and charged at him. He was scared this time again and crouched down. The funny tug in his stomach came and the next minute. Things were all frozen. He saw the same butterfly this time flying and get frozen again at the same spot. Slowly, Percy began to understand it. It wasn't all that he had the ability to stop time. He always had the power to set back time so he could go back to the past for a few minutes. Then his eyes slowly gazed to the direction of Artemis. He stared at the angle of her blade and thought about it for awhile. If he could stop time and set it back after it has happened for a short period of time. Then he might have a chance to win her. All he needed was to let her hit him, stop the time, remember where it hit and form a move to encounter her attack. Set the time for a few seconds back again and make the move. He stood in his initial position and judging from the angle where the blade was going to land. All he needed was to shift his body to the left a little and he could dodge it. He concentrated on the power again and he was shot back to the past. The moment he opened his eyes, all he saw was Artemis charged at him with her dagger held high, about to stab his shoulder. Percy remembered the move and shifted his body. Artemis blade missed him by an inch. Percy saw how it worked out so well and laughed. "Yess!" He exclaimed. "It works! Holy cow it works!" When he turned to his side and all he saw was a dagger flying to his head. .... Lucky for Percy he had time to set the time back to the past before he die. This time he shifted his body, making Artemis to miss her attack. He didn't jump anymore but remembered how it played out and duck as the dagger flew through the air above him. Artemis stared at him in astonishment, not understanding how his sensitivity was suddenly improved so much. Percy stood up and before he could make the next move, a sword already pierced through his chest. Just like that, every time he was about to die, he set the time back to the past only a few seconds before that event occurs or he stopped the time just in time Artemis sword kill him and judge where the blade was going to land and set the time again to dodge it. Artemis swung her sword left and right and none of the time crisply made a scratch on him. She was so frustrated right now because his agility just suddenly turned so good. Eventually, Percy got back to his weapon and after a few minutes (which he got stabbed five times in between and set back time just in time), he finally deflected Artemis sword and sent it flying to the sky and before Artemis knew it, Percy already had his sword across her neck. Artemis' POV Dammit! Why the held did he suddenly turned out to be so good at f*****g fighting. He was running like a coward just a moment ago and now he was under his grab. Damn you Perseus Jackson! "Where was that cocky smile again?" He mocked. Inside me like a volcano now. I just underestimated his ability. I swear if I had my hand on him one day, I would rip him into pieces and bury his limbs through out the world. I struggled under his hold and he clicked his tongue. "Common, don't be like that. You already lost just might just as well accept it" "Urggg" I growled. Why the f**k his breath just few so good when it fanned on my neck? "Where did you learn those techniques?" I demanded an answer. "Well..." I could see him smirking. "I don't know" Yeah keep it to yourself you moron. Hope you die because of it one day. I cursed. I knew he was lying there was no way I could pry it out from him. "Look like you lose now" he whispered to my ear and I shivered in response. "And you have a deal to agree with." He let go of me and started to walk away. I stood on my spot, gripping my hand so tight that my knuckles turned white while my face was burning red from anger. This was the first male who could embarrass me like this and for the first time, I felt defeated and of course, I didn't accept that. He needed a lesson. I turned to my right, looking for that bloody button and finally found it camouflaged by the colour of the boulder. I pressed it and tried to hear the movement underneath me. The moment I heard the creaking and moving of machinery, I smiled in response as the traps were still working. "PERCY JACKSON!" I yelled. He turned back without speaking a word. "Come here" I demanded. "Why?" He asked. "You lost the contest, what do you want now?" "Just come in front of me!" I yelled. I have activated a trap. In front of me was a trapping pit. If he stepped on it, he would fall into the prison below. This was built in the Titan war for enemy in case of them invading Olympus. It had not been used for many centuries now but since I was the goddess of the hunt. I was able to locate and see any traps around me. "And why should I?" He asked. "Because...because I dare you to" I managed the most retarded reason. "And perhaps you need the deal to be done" "You said you accept it if I won." He bellowed. "Yes" I smiled. "And I'm honouring it now. So come here so we can discuss this deal" Percy looked at the ground seem to be annoyed and yet, he still walked to me. Around a few more steps from the X spot and then he stopped right in front of it. Urg dang it! "What are you waiting?" I scowled at him. "Step closer! It doesn't hurt for another step" "Should you be worried that it will be too close to you?" he said. "Ain't you despite us males?" "Just make one more step already!" I groaned. "Why do you have to be such a princess sometimes?" "Well because I want to keep my life here" he sneered back at me. "How can I know that you won't stab me once I stand in front of you?" In desperate, I just leaned forward and grabbed his collar shirt and pulled him toward me. He was pulled forward and standing so close that our lips about to touch. I was there, holding his collar while our eyes staring at each other. I could even feel his breath. Jut then, a sudden creak came out beneath us when the ground underneath Percy split open in half. He looked up to me with a frown and before he could say anything, he already fell into that trap. But yes, unfortunately that moron also grabbed my hand and together, we both fell into the trap that I created.
