I nodded and slipped away to join the others in the hall. We hurried through the palace. I noticed there were the same pages carrying stacks of books, but the boys moved toward the library rather than away.
"Looks like somebody's done reading," I commented.
"The vast armies in the copy shops are very quick," Tillit told me.
We stepped out into the weakening sun of the aging day and crossed the temple grounds. A pigeon flew overhead from somewhere behind us and dove over the hillside into the city. I looked to Tillit. "So I'm guessing the priests use those pigeons to send messages everywhere in the city?"
He nodded. "Yep. There are stations with cages where the birds land, and then a page takes them the rest of the way."
