Alpha Drew.
She was staring at me. My mate. Did she already feel the connection?
Of course she must feel it how could she not?
I watch as one of the boys speaks to her, drawing her attention away from me. Normally with my werewolf hearing I would of been able to make out the entire conversation, but theres too many people around the pool and she's too far away for me to make anything out. She wraps a towel around each of them and something she says has them jumping up and down with glee. They start to walk away from the pool, but not before she turns and looks in my direction again. Married or not, I've definitely drawn her attention, either that or she thinks I'm some weird creepy pervert, checking out married women at the pool.
I sigh heavily as they head through the doors and disappear from view. She has literally just left my sight and I miss her already.
"Cheer up Drew". Cal nudges me in the back and I swivel round on the bar stool to face him.
" How can you say that?" I moan to him.
" My mate is clearly married, she has a ring on her finger and two kids who have to be hers. Besides the fact that she just walked off with them back into the hotel, they look so similar to her".
"Well, let's think about what we know so far" he says.
I take a swig from my whisky and feel it burn my throat and wave my hand for him to continue. I might as well let him, its not like he can say anything to make me feel worse right now.
" Did you see her husband? Did you smell him in our corridor?"
I perk up a bit, I hadn't seen or smelt him.
" What are you saying Cal?"
" Maybe they aren't together anymore?"
I take a sharp intake of air and try to steady my heart, which has picked up pace again dramatically. I can't get my hopes up too much yet. I may have found her but that doesn't mean that she wants to be with me. I need to find out more about her situation before I push her further about our bond.
I'm sat in my room perched on the end of the bed, with my keycard in my hand.
I'm just listening to the sounds in the corridor and waiting. I've already given Cal and the rest of my men strict orders not to leave their room unless I say otherwise. With her room being the only other one on our floor any movement outside in the corridor will have to be related to her. I still couldn't smell anyone other than her and the two boys when we returned not 15 minutes after they had left pool. So I figured if she was here with her husband I would hear him return to the room, maybe he had been on a day trip by himself. Water skiing perhaps? Something that she either didn't want to do or thought was to dangerous for the boys.
I hear the elevator bell ding and the doors slide slowly open, then the unmistakable sound of a trolley rolling along the soft plush carpet of the corridor. I jump up and exit my room and turn to stand as though I'm just returning. I glance at the trolley as it passes. 2 pizzas, some fries, a couple of smoothies and a bottle of rose with a single glass. I want to punch the air with joy but I have to stay composed as I hear her approach the door. I wait with baited breath, I'm so excited to see her face again. She opens the door and smiles at the woman with the trolley. Its the most beautiful smile I've ever seen. Her scent hits me like a tidal wave and I just stand there staring at her. I forget i'm meant to be pretending to enter my room. She spots me and I hear a gasp escape her mouth before she quickly slams the door shut.
I sigh and swipe my card and go back into my room. I send a quick mindlink to Cal, asking him to come to my room.
One of the many benefits of being a werewolf was the ability to mind link to other members of the pack. It's a bit like calling someone on a mobile but speaking in each others mind. It can be done person to person or on a larger scale, a bit like a conference call. However unlike a mobile phone call, this can only be done within a certain distance.
A few minutes later, he knocks on the door and I rise to go and let him in. I make a mental note to ask for a spare key for each of the rooms, just in case we need to access them and the person staying there isn't around.
" So anymore info?" he asks as he casually throws himself down onto the chair in the living room area.
" Not much really" I reply shaking my head. " Shes just received some room service and there wasn't enough for 2 adults and 2 kids, oh and a bottle of wine but only one glass".
" Thats fantastic news" Cal says gleefully. " There's no way she would only have one glass if she was with someone else"
I have to be honest that was my initial reaction when I spotted just one glass, but I was unable to get to excited as the pessimist in me was saying there could be many explanations for this.
" Not necessarily" I said glumly. " Either one of them could be teetotal, they might take it in turns to have a drink because of the kids or..." I trailed off not wanting to finish my sentence.
" She could be pregnant again"
Casper snarled in my head at this suggestion, its not like he didn't like pups, he just wanted it to be his pups in her belly. I have to admit I shared his sentiment. " You have been awfully quiet about our mate Casper" I spoke to him in my head " Whats the matter?"
"Can't sense mates wolf." he replied in a sad voice. " What do you mean? I asked him confused. " Like she doesn't have a wolf, but she smells like a wolf and so do the boys" he answered.
Now I was getting confused, Casper should of been able to contact and talk to our mates wolf even if she didn't want to talk to me.
Cal sat quietly watching as I spoke to Casper and then finally asked what was happening. " Casper tells me her can't sense her wolf, almost like she is human and without a wolf counterpart. But says she smells like a wolf" I relayed what Casper had said.
" Well s**t, I guess things just got a lot more complicated" he said reaching for beer.
