Colin looked down at Emma as he spoke to her. a white wolf? if she was a white wolf she would be in danger. " you don't understand Emma. if your wolf is white you are royalty. you are also in a lot of danger. There are hunters out there that believe the power given to white wolves by the moon Goddess gives them an unfair advantage over other wolves." " I know Colin. the moon Goddess didn't allow everyone one of my kind to be destroyed. it was the mate bond." she looked into his eyes. he for the first time could feel her. he sensed her feelings of sadness and fear but there was something mixed in with these emotions a glimmer of hope sparking between them. he felt it all. " if you hadn't done what I asked...." Emma closed her eyes as she spoke the rest to Colin, " my wolf would have been lost. I would have been in bigger danger. my wolf is weak right now but she is getting stronger. I can feel her for the first time. I have this sense of peace for our future. I don't know how to explain it. as long as you and I and our bond stays strong we give each other strength and power." Colin could tell she was getting tired and he leaned over and kissed her forehead. " rest my angel." he sat back down in his chair thinking before he finished talking. overwhelmed by everything that happened three days ago. " angel......" clearing his throat he grabbed her hand in his again, " promise me you won't tell anyone until you have too. we will train together and keep this to us until we fight side by side. " he could hear her agree faintly as she drifted off to sleep. never leaving her side. He knew being a white wolf would put her in danger, but he didn't know how to protect her. Colin had heard the legends of the royal white wolf pack. the stories of their m******e and how their entire pack had been destroyed. It was claimed that each white wolf was born with a gift from the moon Goddess given before birth. with each gift they were given, it was supposed to be used for keeping the balance on Earth between the sacred packs and the humans. A way of protecting the peace and balance of Earth. White wolves were majestic beasts. without them peace on the Earth had all but vanished. if Emma was a white wolf she would be the last born of her kind and the key to restg the balance amongst all the living creatures. This alone would put her in danger from those beings who would want to exploit her and use her gifts for wrong. Many beings would want to learn how to control her in order to harness her gifts. " I will give my life to protect you Emma. I will keep you safe." Colin bowed his head and kissed her fingers. Emma stirred in her sleep as her parents walked in. " Darla and dave," he stood and bowed to them, " she woke up. she is going to be ok. the doctor wants her to rest." they looked at him as they moved towards the bed. He had so many questions to ask them. Darla sighed and looked over at him through the grief that weighed heavy on her heart she knew she needed to give Colin answers. " I know that you probably judge us. I have judged myself for so many years," Darla shook her head trying to shake her tears. " I thought I could protect her by hiding her. I never encouraged her to find her wolf. The night before I had a dream. The moon Goddess came to me and told us what would happen. I warned everyone. A few believed me and left. They were all later hunted down and slaughtered....." she sobbed as she told her story, " hunters came to our pack and began killing everyone. they picked off our strongest first and then moved to all the women and children. I was able to get out even though I was pregnant with Emma.. Her father didn't believe me, like most of the pack that stayed...." more sobs came from her frail body. " times were different then. women weren't held to very high standards. they were there to look pretty and not be heard. I begged her father and his arrogance cost him and our pack their lives." taking a deep breath Darla finished her story, " I gave birth to her in the human world amd hid her there. the more I suppressed her wolf the more human she smelled to every wolf that came into the city. I just wanted to keep her safe...... I met Dave, her father when she was two and he was just so amazing amd loved us completely. it wasn't until sje was four that I told him about wolves and what Emma was. her wolf was trying to get out and we decided it was best to keep her from bonding with her wolf and keep Emma safe. After a while Dave was afraid to tell her because he was afraid he would lose his daughter if she ever knew and I was afraid she would be hunted. The hunters that came to the pack had silver tipped arrows and silver blades and caused c*****e like I habe never seen. the moon Goddess was angry and cursed the land allowing war and death over the blood spilled that day. Emma is the last born white wolf. I have no idea of the gifts the moon Goddess bestowed on her that every white wolf is given before birth..... take care of her and keep her safe Colin. she is truly one of a kind and moon Goddess said that she will not be the last of our kind that she will keep our line going. she is yours to keep safe and to cherish. " Darla lifted her head looking out the window. Colin couldn't believe what she told him. wouldn't separating her from her wold make her weaker? " Darla, with everything I am I will keep her safe, but what if they would have hunted her and she had no wolf to help keep her strong? separating her from her wolf would have left her weak and unable to protect herself from danger." " she smelled so human after so long I was hoping that she wouldn't be found out. the more time she spent with her and started realizing you were her mate...... her wolf started coming out. I could smell her change. I'm sure you started to as well. her wolf scent became stronger. her dreams of her wolf became more vivid......" Darla's voice trailed off and she grew quiet. " I may not agree with hiding her from her own wolf...... but I do not judge any of you for it either. I understand why you did it." Colin moved towards Darla amd reached out for her hand. " you are parents, you were trying to keep her safe. that's something I understand. if I were a parent I would do anything for my child. " all three sat in silence as they watched Emma sleep. Darla let out a big sigh of relief and patted his hand. There was nothing more to be said as they sat there in silence. Colin fell deep into his thoughts. What hunters did this. there were many regions in America alone. Usually they only hunted rogues and those that harm humans. why would any hunters take it upon themselves to murder am entire pack of wolves that were innocent? Colin felt that every time he had answers to his questions it brought even more questions to his mind. were these hunters still keeping an eye out for white wolves? what did they have to gain hunting them? was it power? questions and very few answers swirled around in his head. there was something he was missing. the why plagued his mind like a nagging child persistent on getting its way. he needed answers for the who and why but first he needed Emma to rest and heal both herself and her wolf. once she was released he would start training her so she could protect herself and possibly her new pack. Colin knew this would not be easy since most wolves begin training at five but he knew he had to cram a lot into her training and in a very short amount of time. Hopefully, the danger that still lurks gave them time to do it right. Emma was special. He could feel it. He also felt that there was still more that her and her wolf were hiding. he could smell the power in her scent but for now he just kept breathing in the calming smell of garden flowers and rain and allowed his heart and mind to calm. if only for a while.
