“We were starting to wonder whether you had changed your mind.”
The comment came from no one other than Dae, but strangely enough, I didn’t feel like he had meant it as an insult. There was something about the way that he had said it that gave me the impression that he had somehow started to worry about that exact same thing. I told myself that I was reading too deeply into the matter, that I was looking for something that hadn’t likely happened.
“Never in a million years.”
Only, I would change my mind. In a second, a heartbeat. It all simply depended on what happened throughout the rest of this meeting, on what was said to me. I could handle questions. But it would be the statements that they made that would be bound to be the death of me.
