My Mate

1060 Words
It was hard to drag myself away from the hospital. My father was pretty sure that since my mate was human, it meant I was to run his pack instead of my grandfather's. It was unheard of that a council Alpha would be mated to human, unheard of, in fact, he said. I know he meant well and was happy to hear I found her, but I needed to get back to the hospital. "Father, can we talk about this later?" I stood up from his plush office chair, hoping he would understand. "Sure, let me know if you need anything, and Max, be careful. Humans have a hard time dealing with our kind's existence." He said. I nodded before heading back to see my sweet Olivia. "What are you doing here?" Her mother asked me as I walked in the door. She shoved my chest, pushing me out the door making me lose grip on the flowers I brought. I steadied the flowers in my hand and gave her the best smile I could. "I'm bringing her flowers. I thought they would make her smile," I told her. "Look, I understand you were there with her when she woke up, but she doesn't need this right now. Whatever it is, it will only hurt her. She needs her strength," her eyes were swollen and dark circles peaked out from underneath them. "I understand. I guess I just wish to see her get well, check on her, you know," There was no way this woman was keeping me away from her. "Fine, she does seem to feel at ease when your around but only this one last time, she sighed, and I grinned from ear to ear. When I walked in, she was sitting up on the bed. Today her wig was a long curly brunette one. It didn't quite suit her as the blonde one did, but she still looked beautiful anyway. "They're beautiful," she said. "I thought you might like them," I sat the flowers down on the table next to her bed. For a moment, I stood in silence, not sure what to say. I mean, I'm sure this must be weird for her. I wasn't sure how much the bond would pull and affect her since she is human. "I could hear you," she said in barely a whisper. "I didn't say anything," I told her, confused. Had she somehow heard my mind? "When I was in a coma. I could hear your voice. I had this urgent need to come back to speak to," she stopped short of finishing her words. "I had an urgent need for you to as well," "Do you own a dog?" she asked me. "No," I looked at her, confused. She looked off into the distance in thought, and I wanted just to hold her. I knew that would be weird for her, though. "Why?" "There was a dog, or maybe it was a wolf. It was all so blurry, but he was there with you, and he soothed me," Was it possible? How could she see my wolf? Maybe it wouldn't be so hard. Perhaps she would understand what I was, understand the beast inside of me. "Do you see it now?' I asked her. "No, only when I first woke up. It was weird, you know. I felt like it gave me strength. I'm dying, you know," she fidgeted with her blankets a moment before looking up again at me. "Please, don't say that. I won't let you," I placed her fragile hand in mine and stroked the top of her hand with my thumb. "You're just like my mother, never facing the truth," A part of me died with every word she spoke. I would not let her die no matter the cost. "So tell me, Olivia, what do you like to do for fun," I smiled, hoping to take her mind off things. Well, I was part of the debate team in High School," "Did you play any sports?" I asked "Basketball, but surely you don't wish to know such mundane things about me," she smiled. "I want to know everything about you," I told her. "Well, have a seat," she patted the empty place next to her on the bed, "It's gonna be a while," The hours came and went as we just sat and talked. Though I didn't tell her the truth about who I am, I told her everything else. Somehow though, it felt like we were cramming every aspect of our lives into a few hours. My wolf wasn't as optimistic as I was, though. It was a good thing I knew how to push him out. "Will you stay here all night with me?" she asked. "Yes," I said without hesitation. I knew her mother would once again flip out on me, but I didn't care. I wasn't going anywhere as long as she needed me, and she would just have to get used to that. "I'm tired," she yawned. "You need to eat something first," "They feed me through my tubes," "Okay, how about some tv?" I asked her "Sure, can you check if the Cowboys game is on?" "You're a Cowboys fan?" I asked her "Yep, I always dreamed of seeing a real game," "We're going to see a real game as soon as you can get out of here," I told her. "Do you promise?" she asked me. "Of course. I could think of nowhere else I'd rather be," I kissed her gently on her forehead, wishing it was her lips I was kissing. I leaned back against the bed as she rested her head on my shoulder. I didn't find the Cowboys game, but I did find another football game. As she laid in my arms, I couldn't be happier to have finally found my mate. "Max," she whispered. "Yes," "I'm so glad I met you. Thank you for giving me this moment," she softly kissed me on my lips before closing her eyes and falling asleep. The tingles and shocks felt like heaven. It took everything in me to not deepen the kiss, not to make her mine. I couldn't though she was in no shape. I would just have to wait. I finally found my mate. Everything else will fall into place in due time.
