Chapter 9 Something woke Mason, but his eyelids felt too heavy to open. Instead, he let the darkness take him back into its grasp. On the cusp of oblivion, thoughts of the previous night zapped into his head. He stretched out his right arm, searching for the warmth of the body next to him. Not finding anything one way, he leaned over to the left side. Finding only emptiness, he listened to the quiet, trying to detect even the slightest of sounds—the lack of noise caused him to open his eyes.
