Chapter 7 The night was dark, and there beneath the old tree trunk that lay over the dry river bed you could hear slice after slice of a shovel as it cut down into the hard earth. Dirt flew for what seemed like hours when Johnny finally threw the shovel down. “It’s gone,” he yelled out as he wilted down on the mound of dirt, his bones weary. “It’s fuckin’ gone!
