Hawk's POV (Flash Back from Night before) Mato stood staring out the door. "Mates?" He asked. "I am not sure?" I walked to lean against the other side of the door. "What did you feel?" Mato's eyes still trained outside. "I felt a sudden clench of my heart, when I picked her up. The areas she touched made my skin come alive." I looked down at my hands. "Amber accidently called a psychic a while back, said that she would find a friend in the woods that would become a lover." Mato turned his dark eyes at me. "I know who you are and I know what I seen tonight. I have a feeling she is meant for you." He looked out at the woods again. "Don't screw it up." He grunted. "Amber?" I looked at him. "Her name is Amber." He nodded. "What was the name of the psychic?" I questioned. I had a feeling I knew. "Maya, was the name." Mato answered after a long pause. "The Lyican Princess." I muttered looking back out to the woods. "My father is with that Princess." Mato spoke. "How do you know her?" "She appeared 3 days ago in my office. Athens with her. Unafraid of who or what I was. Grabbed my arm and showed me Amber." I looked at him. "Told me her life depended on it." His eyes met mine. "Then it was fated." He nodded. "More are coming for her." He added quietly. "Yes," I looked back out at the woods. "I had an official letter asking to get rid of her." I paused to gauge Mato's reaction. "Another letter said that there were others already going to try." I glanced back at the stairs. "Do you mind if I hang around for a while?" "As long as you keep your rage in check." Mato stopped leaning on the door. "If I am near her I don't seem to have any." Saying it even seemed foreign to me. A deep chuckle came from Mato then, "Mates indeed." He started to walk away. "Do you have her sale file by chance?" I asked as he started to walk away. I seen him stiffen. "I do," Mato's words were tight with strained emotion. "I would like to see it when you have time." I stood up from the wall. "I assume to clean up loose ends?" He turned his head a bit, voice still tight. "Yes," I said easily. He knew I planned to kill them all. "There are things in the file that will make you angry. I am still battling the emotions from it." I heard his anger peek out of the words. "I have no doubt. Perhaps you can accompany me on a few." I offered. "Perhaps," He nodded. "Are you hungry?" He asked. "No, my beast fed on a deer shortly before I got here. I will just hang out here." Motioning to the porch stairs. "I normally guard Amber's door, " Mato turned around to watch me intently. "After reading her file I could not sleep nights." A surge of anger rushed through me, but I held it. "I will guard it tonight." I forced out through gritted teeth. "I figured as much." He chuckled. "I will go find my bed." I watched him walk towards a dark hall below the stairs. "Pay attention to her heart beat, she has night terrors." He added quietly disappearing into the dark hallway below the stairs. I heard movement up stairs, walking back in and closing the back door. I took the stairs two at a time. My legs easily long enough to do that. I caught Momma Dee, closing Amber's door. She looked up at me with surprise. "Where is Mato?" Glancing at the empty chair on the other side of the hall way. "He is getting some sleep." My words clipped and short. "I will be taking watch tonight." I answered a little more forceful then I should have. Momma Dee's hand went to her chest, her other holding the medical supplies. The hand to her chest went to the door, "This baby has been through so much, be kind please." Sadness emitted from her voice. I seen tears threatening to spill from her light brown eyes. "I have no reason to harm her." I sighed, women why did they always have tears. "I will just watch. Mato said to pay attention to her heart beat. She gets night terrors." My voice softer then my normal tone. "I see," Momma Dee glanced at the ground. "I will leave you to it then." Blinking back her tears she straightened her back. "I am the room closest to the stairs. If she needs me." She hovered at the door a second, before I seen her take a deep breath and walk down the hall to her room. I looked at the chair, Mato sat in and shook my head. I was not going to sit in the hall staring at a door focused on her heart beat. So many things can creep into a room and do bad things. I would sit in her room near the door in the corner. There I could watch, there I could think too. I opened the door, closing it I picked up the chair from next to the door. Walking with it to the side of her bed. I sat down and noticed that she turned my way. Momma Dee had changed her clothes and bandaged her wounds. There were faint bruises on her cheek and on her arms. I guessed it was from the trees. I was watching her sleep, when I seen her brows knot together and a tear escape the corner of her closed eye. I leaned forward using my thumb to wipe it away. She brows relaxed and I felt her grab my fingers like her life depended on it. She relaxed and went off into a deep sleep. I leaned back in the chair, replaying all the events that lead me to that moment. I understood now why Maya that Princess had done it. Having been so offended she didn't respect my space I was kinda glad she did.
