Amber's POV Meeting Mato was the first of many things over the course of the next month. I met everyone in this pack Momma Dee called it. It took some doing, but even managed to have some dinner after I think about a month or so. A few of the younger women taught me to use the phone and showed me how to get on the internet. The guy from the kitchen, asked me my favorite food though I could not come up with it. I loved food period, perhaps it was because I had always had a lack of it or that the floor ate most of it. But he would ask me what dishes after each meal I liked and which ones I didn't. I was scrolling the internet one evening, I seen all sorts of things. I had learned to read a little when I was younger from an older cell mate. She had that everyone needed to read. With the girls helping and other bits from Momma Dee, I was beginning to understand a lot. Mato, I found out later had stayed guard at my door the whole time after having gotten me here. He had been so upset by my condition that he stood watch because it was the only thing he felt he could do. Momma Dee said Mato was a Lakota word for bear. He is a were bear his mother was Lakota and his father is some big famous were bear named Mortou. Either way when I walked in the house he was a distant shadow watching me. Oddly when I understood why he was following, it kinda made me feel better. Knowing that there was someone out there watching over me. He only spent nights outside my room now. He would get Momma Dee if my nightmares got horrible. Mato seemed to know I was not going to be able to find comfort in him. Yet he continued to watch over me the easiest way he knew how. I was in my room scrolling, this ad kept popping up of a psychic by the name of Maya. I had repeatedly seen the add over and over like it wanted me to go there. So I clicked it. Suddenly the phone started to ring. "Greetings," the female voice said. "Hi," I replied softly, not sure how this managed to happen. "How can I help you?" She asked. My only thought to that question was "I need direction." I didn't know where that came from but it sounded good. "I can help with that," there was a smile in her voice. "What would you like to ask the cards?" "What should I do?" I asked quietly. "What is your name?" I heard the woman respond. "Amber," I whispered. Not to sure I should be doing this. Not even sure how I got this far. There was a pause, I heard cards shuffled then them moving around. "Well Amber, the cards say you have been through the wringer." "You could say that," I quietly agreed. Honestly that was a nice way to put it. "There is a challenge ahead and some shaky ground which way you turn." she paused. "Amber, at your lowest point you will find a friend. One that will be able to help you. This friend will become a lover. Your pain will end and the sun will shine." There was a pause in her voice and the silence again. "Amber, honey I have just seen something you must know. I can hear your heart breaking. Understand, the path you are on, is leading you to your future happiness. I cannot say you will be safe from here on out. I can say that it does lead to something which will bring great joy and happiness in the future. You will be at your lowest, crying in the woods from what I am not sure. He will arrive and he will help you. Of that I am certain." Her words reminded me of that dream. Of the man I seen in the woods. "I have seen something like that in my dreams," spoke with more strength. "I never see much of his face. I know he is dangerous but I also know I am safe." I treasured that feeling of safety. "You are almost there, I suspect the last bit of awful is around the corner and you will finally meet him. Stay strong and if you have to run, do so with every bit of courage and strength you have." I could feel she cared in the words she said. "Thank you." I was oddly happy about this. Perhaps my dream would come true. "How much is this I forgot to ask." I didn't have a credit card. I was not sure how I was going to pay her. "This one is free," she offered. "Are you sure?" I was shocked. "I am." I heard her say solidly. "Just call me once you have found each other. Good luck and keep your strength." Her words trying to motivate me. "Thank you so much," I was very grateful. "I will." I added. I heard the phone click. I stared down at it. Had she seen him to? It hit me shortly after that, she had said something bad was gonna happen. Instantly worry hit me like a gazelle on the savanna. Were my friends going to be hurt? I liked it here. Was this all a lie? So many questions floated my mind. My anxiety leveling up instantly. I didn't want these people hurt, I could only hope they didn't. Momma Dee opened the door, "honey what happened?" She walked to me slowly and wrapped her arms around me. "I called a psychic on accident in one of those ad things." I started, "she said I would find a friend that would turn into a lover but also that the bad stuff wasn't over. I was going to have to run." I had tears streaming my face. "Attacks are always possible with what we do, but honey you will be safe." She hugged me tightly. A wave of calm spilling from her to me. "Yes but what if you guys are hurt?" I worried. "Things happen, but I doubt it will get that far." Momma Dee rubbed my back and rocked me. "We have some pretty impressive allies. People would have to be insane to try." She huffed quietly while instilling her relaxation into my bones.
