Prologue
“Luther! You cannot do this to me!”
Alpha King Luther Reed stopped on his track, turning around to look at Katherine. His eyes burned in a fury. No one dares to utter his name. No one disrespects him. He is the Alpha King of the Northern Kingdom, and no one addresses him by name.
No one.
Not even his own mate.
“You dared to utter my name?” he growled.
Katherine gazed back fiercely, “I am your mate! I ca–”
“For the gods and goddesses, you are. But you are nothing to me but a medium to keep my wolf lively, and a toy for me to play with. I am your King and you shall address me with respect.” his eyes held coldness and void of emotion as they stared into Katherine’s.
She did not retaliate because she knew what she was in the Alpha King’s life. She is his mate, but ignored, neglected, and unacknowledged. Her only role was to exist so the Alpha King’s wolf would live incredibly, regardless of her state. She hoped before that she could change him, she could make him love her, want her, but she was wrong. It has been more than a year of suffering under his roof. And she could no longer endure the betrayal and constant pain he was causing her.
“Let me go back to my pack. Let me go home.” Katherine pleaded, she could no longer bear the pain from what she often witnessed in the palace.
“This is now your home.”
“What? You took me here for what, Luther? To–”
“Speak of my name again and I will rip your tongue out of your mouth,” he threatened and Katherine trembled for she knew, she definitely knew that the King does not utter empty threats. She knew he could do it, and he would do it.
Even though she is his mate.
He shows no mercy to anyone.
“You will stay here, and you shall live here forever!” the Alpha King added with finality in his tone, turning his back on her, ending the discussion. But Katherine was far from finished.
“To watch you breed other she-wolves? Make me listen every f*****g night? You took me here to torture me! Make me live in misery! To suffer! What have I done to you?” she shouted, fighting for her freedom for she could not take it anymore. She would have just stayed at the Domil Pack instead rather than hope for a fairytale ending with a King. But what could she have done when she was taken by the Alpha King’s men? The entire northern region bows down to his rule. And knowing his reputation, no one dared to disobey him or cross his wishes.
“What have I done to deserve this?” her voice went quiet in defeat as the Alpha King ignored her pleas, leaving her in a hopeless state in the carpeted hallway of the royal hall.
