I sat impatiently on my bed, trying to think of a way to get out of this room, when there was a knock at my door.
"Come in." I said, hoping that it was Atemu, coming to tell me that I could leave.
But I was more than a surprised when Anat slowly walked in.
"You..."
"The Pharaoh sent me to s—" She cut herself off, probably seeing the grin form on my face. "To assist you." She finished, with a suspicious frown forming on her own face.
Best friend. I love my best friend. That was all I could think of at that moment. He is the greatest Pharaoh that has ever walked in this land. I love him.
She stood there for a moment, just looking at me.
"What are you standing there for?" I asked.
Her frown deepened. "What do you want me to do, Supreme Commander?"
I pressed my lips into a thin line, trying to hold back my grin and trying to look a little serious. "Well, if you're here to serve—"
"Assist. Not serve."
"Do not interrupt me, maid." I said, amused.
She took a deep breath and held it in.
"If you wish to serve me... since I have a headache, I must say a shoulder massage might be very nice." I said as I stretched my arms.
She stared at me and though she kept a straight face, I could see the anger in her eyes. But that only amused me more.
"With oils! I heard that you make wonderful oils. The nice scent of... hmmm... I do love the scent of sandalwood... but I heard Jasmines give a very sensual feeling." I smiled at her.
"I suggest Neroli, my Lord." She said.
"What?"
"Neroli. Its scent will soothe you."
I looked at her for a moment. "I feel as if you want to poison me."
She smiled at that. "I would not do that, only because I do not want to hurt the Pharaoh."
I narrowed my eyes. "Well hurry along now, my headache and pain isn't going to cure itself." I said.
She left right away, seeming to be glad that she could leave and I was actually very surprised when she returned. I didn't think she would.
She brought back with her a large and decorated box. "Do you have boiling water?" She asked.
"Why would I have boiling water?"
She rolled her eyes. "Do you have water, and a place where I can boil it?"
I smiled. "Yes." I then showed her to my washroom and prepared a flame for her so that she could start to boil the water.
I leaned against the doorframe and watched as she carefully placed the box into the boiling water, making sure it didn't sink completely into it. "Why are you doing that?" I asked.
"I'm warming it. Would you like to be drenched in cold oils?"
"Ahh..." Her rudeness was unbelievably appealing.
After a few moments, she turned around, still holding the box in the water. "What are you standing there for? Go and seat yourself, with your shirt off."
"Only my shirt?" I asked with a smirk as I turned around.
"Only your shirt!" She said immediately, raising her voice.
I chuckled.
Taking my shirt off was an easy thing for me. I was not at all embarrassed by my body. I had a soldier's body. Muscles that came from hard work. Muscles that shaped a body which made women swoon. So I wasn't surprised when Anat paused as she walked out of the washroom and her eyes fell on my chest.
But she collected herself quickly, walking towards me with her eyes somewhere else.
I smiled. "I have to say, you are quite professional."
She didn't respond to that.
"I assume you have great experience." I continued.
"Never have I massaged a man's body before. So forgive me if this does not feel right."
I didn't think it would feel "not right." Not for a second. And I was proved right when her cool fingers touched my shoulders.
My heart began to race immediately and continued to do so as her cool fingers massaged tohevery warm oil onto my shoulders. As I closed my eyes, I could feel the stress fade away.
It was quiet for a while, until she spoke up. "Your shoulders are very tight." She said, with no tone in her voice.
"That's what happens when you have so many responsibilities." I said. It came out as almost a whisper, I was so calm that I didn't want to raise my voice.
"Do your constant s****l encounters not relieve any of that stress?"
I let out a small laugh. "It's supposed too."
"And it does not?"
I shrugged.
"Do not move your shoulders."
"Sorry."
It was quiet for another moment. "I have learned from friends that s*x is supposed to relieve stress."
"Then have s*x with me right now." I smiled.
She pulled her arms away, and when I turned around and looked at her, she had both her eyebrows raised and was looking at me with disapproval.
"Only kidding." I said, turning back around.
After a moment, she continued with her massage.
"I am surprised you need your friends to tell you this. Have you never—"
"I am a virgin and will only have s*x with the man I marry."
I took a deep breath and let it out immediately. "I see." I said. "You're one of those girls."
"One of those girls?" She asked.
"Never mind." I said right away.
I heard her hesitate, but she didn't say anything else.
It was another long moment before she spoke up again and when she did, things started to get more amusing.
"Why did you kiss me?" She asked.
"What?"
"Why did you kiss me? On the night of the wedding?"
I smiled. "Because."
"Tell me why." She said. "Why would you do that to me?"
"You question me as if I raped you."
"If you hadn't kissed me, we wouldn't be here right now."
"And you regret that you are here?" I asked.
"Of course I do!" She said, raising her voice.
My smile disappeared, I felt insulted. "I apologized, did I not?"
"You did. But that doesn't change the fact that it happened."
"What's done is done. I cannot go back and change what has happened."
She didn't respond.
I sighed, waited for another moment to pass and then sighed again. "You're a pretty girl."
I felt her hands pause but go back to work. "What?"
"I kissed you because you were a pretty girl."
She paused again. "You don't know anything about me, how could you call me pretty?"
I raised my eyebrow, confused, but then realized that her definition of pretty must be different from my own. What an innocent girl.
"You don't even know my name."
I laughed as I turned around and looked at her. "You think I don't know your name, Anat?"
Her eyebrows shot up, clearly surprised and her cheeks reddened slightly. "Turn around." She ordered.
I did as she said, still laughing though.
"I may be inconsiderate, but I'm not stupid. Names are important in relationships." I truly did believe that.
"Just because you know my name doesn't mean you know me." She said stubbornly.
"Then let me know you. Tell me about yourself."
"Humph."
I smiled, turned around and grabbed her arm and pulled her in front of me.
"What are you doing?" She asked, angrily.
"Take out your hair."
"What?"
"Take your hair out of the bun."
"Why should I do that?"
"Your Lord and Supreme Commander is ordering you... maid... to take out your hair."
She swallowed hard, looking somewhat worried, but did as I said. Raising her arms up to her head, she pulled out a single pin and her hair came tumbling down from its normal position on this girls head.
She looked even more beautiful with her hair out, younger even, as it fell over her shoulders and down to the small of her back. I wondered how one pin could hold all of that up.
"Why did you want me to take my hair out?" She asked, still sounding a little nervous.
I rubbed my hands together. "Now I know how long your hair is."
She narrowed her eyes and looked at me, confused.
"I know more about you now." I said, smiling and actually trying to be friendly.
She snorted. "That doesn't mean anything."
I rolled my eyes. "Get back to work." I said, gesturing to my shoulders.
She stepped back behind me and placed her fingers on my shoulders again.
Suddenly, there was a knock on my door.
When Anat turned around, I felt her long hair tickle my back. Almost instantly, I turned around. Her hair was extremely soft, reminding me of the day that I kissed her. This was the hair my fingers didn’t get to touch because she had pushed me away before I could.
I reached out to touch it, but before I could, she walked forward.
"What are you doing?" I hissed.
"Opening the door." She simply said as she tied her hair back into a bun. She then opened the door and I rolled my eyes when I saw who it was.
Bey, Atemu's younger step sister, stood at the door. She looked at Anat for a moment, who bowed, and then looked at me. "Supreme Commander!"
Never in my life would I have slept with one of Atemu's sister, unless I was for whatever reason drunk out of my mind and could barely recognize her face.
Unfortunately, that's what happened that day I slept with her.
Ever since that day, she's been devoted to trying to get me again.
She was beautiful, to be honest, but the fact that she was your best friends sister made things strange, especially when you grew up with that best friend... and that best friend is like your brother... making this step sister like your own step sister.
There's nothing wrong with having a relationship with your sibling, no, that's totally fine here... but personally, I don't like the sounds of that. It took away the wonderful feeling of not knowing things about the person you love. It took away the fun.
Plus, to make all of this worse, this girl was Akana's daughter.
Thus, she was tall, pretty, had a pointy nose, and looked identical to Akana, just younger.
"Will you not spend the day with me?" She asked.
"No." I said as I sighed and turned around.
"Why not?" She asked as she walked over to look at my face.
"Lady Bey, don't make me have to tell your brother." Brother as in her blood brother.
"Tell him what?"
"That you keep annoying me." I said, looking her straight in the eyes.
She hesitated. "He won't care."
"Yes he will. Your brother hates me. He'd rather see you dead than with me."
Bey frowned.
"Now leave, I am ill."
Bey looked at me and then at Anat. "You do not seem ill."
"Well I am, so leave."
"Do not lie to me, what is this woman doing here?"
"I am here under the order of the Pharaoh, my Lady." Anat said.
I looked at Bey. "You see?"
Bey took a deep breath and then turned around to march out of my room.
I placed my hand on my head, how annoying.
"Really?" I heard Anat say after she closed the door. "You slept with Lady Bey too?"
Rolling my eyes, I muttered, "I was drunk."
Anat didn't say anything to that. She just walked over to where her box was and closed its lid. "What are you doing?" I asked.
"There is nothing more I can do for you. I suggest you rest."
"You're done?" I asked, gesturing to my shoulders.
"Yes. If I do anything more then I may hurt your muscles."
"So you're leaving?" I asked, staring at her back.
She stopped moving for a moment and then took a deep breath. "I cannot leave until you are well."
A grin grew on my face.
"So please rest."
"Let me sleep on your lap." I smiled.
"No." She said, immediately, her back still towards me.
"That's an order, maid—"
"Supreme Commander." She said as she turned around. "Let me inform you that my Pharaoh specifically stated that I do not need to do anything that I feel uncomfortable doing."
"What?"
"And... I've been taking mental notes as the evening has been going by and I have noticed that though you threaten, you fail to act."
I hesitated. "What is your point?"
"Unless you want me to force you to rest by knocking you out senseless with my oil box, I suggest you get into your bed and sleep."
Both my eyebrows had shot up. "Are you threatening a Lord?" I asked, amused.
She picked up her decorated box with her right hand. "Yes, but unlike you, I will act upon my threats."
I began to laugh, not believing a single word she said, but then, when I stopped teasing her, I saw her lift up her box, preparing to hit me.
My eyes widened as I grabbed her right hand with my left, stopping her.
As I stood up, I grabbed her left hand as well and looked down at her. "I am thoroughly impressed by your braveness." I said.
She narrowed her eyes.
But, at that moment, as I looked into her eyes, my heart began to race again.
There was a sudden change in her expression too, her expression softened and before I knew it, I found myself leaning forward to kiss her lips. Her eyes closed too, but then suddenly I felt a throbbing pain in my most precious and most sensitive body part.
I took a deep breath and held it, pressing my lips into a thin line and closing my eyes tightly. That witch.
I was about to fall back, but she grabbed me, struggling to hold me up, but kept me up long enough for me to reach my bed. When I collapsed onto my bed, I turned myself around to curse her, but I saw her laughing as she reached over me to adjust my pillows. Laughing at my pain.
She pulled my blanket over me, still laughing, and suddenly, I started to laugh too. She was a smart girl.
"I'm not going to let you win this." I said as I lifted the blanket off and tried to ignore the pain between my legs.
But she grabbed my hand. "Stop." She said, as she pushed it aside and pulled my blanket back over me.
Before I could move again, she surprised me by placing both her hands on my cheeks and looking me straight in the eyes. "Sleep." But she stayed there for a moment.
I smiled, glad that she didn't move. "You are quite the woman." I said. "I think I'd like you as a wife."
Her expression didn't change, surprisingly, and her hands remained on my cheeks.
I lifted my hand and stroked her cheek with it, and after a moment, my smile grew. "I have room in my bed... if you want to rest too."
She laughed at that, moving her hands away from my cheeks and stepping away. "You are too much, Supreme Commander."
I chuckled.
"Now sleep." She said, turning around.
But I decided not to let her go. So I grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards me.
She gasped, but didn't try to pull away when I pulled her into my arms and pressed my lips against hers.
I expected her to push me back and slap me again, but she didn't, at least, not initially.
She surprised me by kissing me back.
I let go of her wrist and smiled as her hand touched mine and our fingers interlocked. I then leaned back into my bed, pulling her down with me and placed my free hand on the small of her back.
But then a moment later, she pulled away, looking as if someone had slapped some sense into her, eyes wide and mouth open.
And then she slapped me.
I closed my eyes and sighed as she got up and pulled her fingers away from mine.
"Sleep." She said again, but only before she closed all the curtains and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.
I placed my arm over my eyes, sighing in the darkness.
