Anaira~
Holy macaroons! My face felt hot when I was bombarded with all the questions about veer.
“Yes, she is definitely blushing, see…” Adil my cousin poked my cheek. I slapped his hand covering my cheeks with my palms.
“I don’t blush." I exclaimed shaking my head continuously.
“Then what’s this pinkish red thing on you cheeks?” He teased more and my eyes widen.
“Oh so cute veer kohli has effect on my sister!” Bhai teased again and bhabi chuckled.
And this was the only thing was remaining to bring butterflies in my stomach, his name.
“And she is red again.” My stomach did a flip.
“Oh shut up!” I cried and ran towards my room.
I observed myself in grand mirror as soon as I entered my room. There was a constant smile on my face and and my cheeks started to hurt. Then there it was, the color in my cheek. I wondered if it was from all the smiling or something else. I smile all the time and I never saw this color in my cheeks.
Blush…I was blushing.
Veer Kohli, the reason behind my blush. I shook my head looking at my blush and someone knocked my room’s door. I opened it and it was mother.
Great I am having his effect now that I am referring my mom as ‘mother’.
“Ana, why did you come up? Come for lunch, its ready.”
I nodded.
“Well, now that I am here I want to tell you that Mrs. Kohli and she said her son said yes for the marriage. "
“Ohhh!” That’s all I could say.
“Are you ready for this marriage beta?” She asked while keeping her palm on my head.
“Yes mom.” I declared almost a whisper to her.
“She said yes!” My dad squealed from back, I turned back my gaze towards mom and saw tears in her eyes. I had a feeling that they are not happy tears but there was a little hurt in them too.
“What happened mom, why you are crying?” I asked with concern, mom opened her mouth to say something but,
“Those are happy tears. ” Dad declared. But I kept looking at mom and she nodded.
“Dad I wanted to ask you something.”
“What beta?”
“Why didn’t you tell me that Mr. Kohli is going taking over your company?” I asked and dad’s face fell.
“I just wanted you to tell me about the merger rather than from the person I met for the first time” I said with a huge disappointment in my voice.
“Sorry my little princess, I was so busy in work that couldn’t tell you about it” Dad replied.
“Sorry! How about a chocolate bar for my little ana?” Dad asked holding a dark chocolate bar. I accepted hesitantly knowing he didn't tell me things beforehand. He had reasons, I told myself.
“Okay, let’s go lunch is ready.” Mom said again.

As soon as I finished my food mom dropped a big bomb telling Kohli's were coming for dinner tonight. After the announcement, I went up to my room to take some rest. Adil bhai and bhabi went back to their own home.
I felt like time was running too fast for me and it was evening already. I wore a light pink dress and kept my curls open, applied a little makeup which I absolutely hate.
I ran downstairs to help mom but the door bell went off and my stomach flipped. It must be them. Slowly I padded my way towards the door and opened it.
“Hello anaira!” Saroj aunty squealed with joy and pulled me into a warm hug and Prem uncle patted my head lovingly while I was getting choked in the long lasting hug.
They both went inside the house and I was still at door, “Hi!” A guy maybe in his mid twenties greeted me.
“Hello.” I replied in a little confused tone.
“I am amit, Veer’s cousin” He introduced himself and extended his hand for a handshake which I happily took.
“I’m anaira.”
“So, you are my bhabi.” I pressed my lips into a thin line to suppress my shameless smile.
“Anyways, my bro is outside near his car, he wants to meet you.” I rose my eyebrows at his statement. “I think he wants to talk to you something in private.” I nodded and looked down in hesitation.
“Hey, I know he can be a little scary but once you know him he is quite a softy.” He spoke in a calming tone to cheer me up and gave me a nudge to go outside.
I stepped outside and reached the mini fountain near the open parking area where I saw him standing while his back was facing me. I took a deep breath and looked backwards towards amit who gave me two thumps up and I smiled at him then faced Mr. Kohli’s back again.
I raised my hand to touch his shoulder to get his attention but my hand stopped mid air and thought its not a good idea and withdrew my hand back.
“Mr.Kohli?” I called him out softly, my voice was so low that I doubted that he heard me. But in another moment, he turned with mobile to his ear and looked at me blankly not saying anything, to the person on other side of the call.
In mean time I couldn't help but check him out using my peripheral vision, tonight he was wearing casual cloths. A blue checkered shirt untucked with dark denims, brown shoes.
Does anything looks bad on him?
I thought, just then he cleared his throat, I turned my gaze towards his face and noticed that he was done with his call. I smiled and asked, “You wanted to speak something important to me?” He nodded and muttered a ‘yes’ to me.
“I wanted to tell you this before you hear it from someone else.” I just hummed to his statement motioning him to continue.
“I was about to tell you at the coffee shop itself but it slipped out of my mind. ” He was clearly checking my patience.
“When I told you that this marriage should be done as soon as possible, at that time I was suggesting-“ he paused for a second,
Oh spit it out already! I screamed in my mind.
“A registry marriage.” He declared and I couldn’t believe my ears.
A beautiful wedding ceremony with all the rituals is all a girl want and I’m no exception to it. But this guy in front of me asking me in a registry marriage.
“I informed my parents about it and yours too and they don’t seem have any problem with it.”
What?
“My parents know?”
“Yes, they do.” I ran both of my palm over my face to calm myself down.
“Look I know its too much for you, but my work is piling up and this merger is just adding more to it.” He did has a point but I was started to shake inside.
He held my hands and I felt those sparks again, “are you alright?” He asked, his voice surprisingly soft, a hint concern was reflecting in his voice which was very odd but at the same time soothing.
“Yes I am fine, I just need some time before I decide.”
“I don’t have all time in the world Anaira!” He said curtly mocking me.
I can't just decide Lome this. I needed time. Some time. “Fifteen minutes that’s all I ask.” I requested.
“Of course.” He said and we padded our way inside the house. And I ran towards my room and called a person who will help me decide. I dialed the number, "hello?”

After making up my mind and ran downstairs, everyone was sitting at the dining table chit chatting. Mr.Kohli and amit were speaking to each other in hushed tone. There was only one seat remaining for me to sit and I decided not to sit there and went inside the kitchen where mom and Saroj aunty were present.
“I must say anaira has grown really beautiful.” Aunty said to mom looking at me. I smiled in return. I helped mom with food but she asked me to sit outside with everyone else.
“Bhabi come on sit with us” amit shouted from outside and I had no other option but to sit beside Mr. Kohli. And I did. I felt his gaze on me but I was fidgeting by now, thinking about my decision.
No! Don’t think about it too much, you made the right decision. My mind said.
“Have you decided Anaira?” Mr.Kohli whispered near my ears. But I ignored him. After serving food to everyone we started to eat.
I was playing with my food, suddenly my appetite was gone when I felt a hand on my thigh and the fork fell on the plate making a clinking sound. Everyone looked at me and I gave them a apologetic smile but I got really angry with my future husband.
Yes. I decided to marry to marry him. But I decided to make him suffer a little longer.
“Beta, eat na stopped playing with your food.”
“Yes mom.” And I twirled the spaghetti in the fork and shoved it in my mouth ignoring Mr.Kohli’s hand on my thigh.
“I don’t like being ignored Anaira.” He squeezed my thigh and I gulped. With great courage I removed his hand from my thigh.
“What do you want Mr.Kohli?” I whispered back.
“It’s not what I what, but it’s what I need.” He stated.
“Then what do you need?”
“Your answer.” I sighed to his reply and checked the time in my watch.
“I think I have good three minutes before I answer.” He gave me a confused look and I chuckled. “Fifteen minutes to think, have you already forgot Mr.Kohli?” I asked teasing him.
He smirked. He does that a lot.
Then I started to concentrate on my food again.
After sometime, “Veer suggested a registry marriage, anaira I know beta it’s quite unfair to you, but are you ready for it?” Prem uncle asked me.
After taking a few seconds, “Yes. ” I almost whispered and I heard gasps from everyone and then they all clapped in happiness.
“How about we do this tomorrow?” Prem uncle asked my dad.
“Only if it’s fine with veer and Ana. ” My dad asked looking at us.
“Fine by me.” Veer said.
“Okay. ” I said after few seconds of hesitation and turned my gaze to mom, she had tears in her eyes again. She knew, she knew it all along about this registry marriage that’s why she was sad in the afternoon. I gave a blink to mom telling her that it way okay, its not her fault actually it was no one’s fault. Then she gave me a faint smile and I smiled back to her.
“Good decision Anaira but you made me wait for it.” He whispered to me and I gave him my evil smile.
“You asked for it Mr.Kohli.” I replied and amit cleared his throat snapping us out.
“We will keep a marriage reception in London after few months.” Saroj aunty announce happily and I looked at her as I realized it was all getting real.
“Yes beta, I want to flaunt my bahu you know.” She chuckled and I tried to smile.
Tried!
“We need to celebrate this.” Amit chimed in with huge excitement.
“How about a champagne?” My dad said and brought a bottle.
“Don’t forget me you all.” Someone said from my back.
“Misha. You’re late.” Mr. Kohli said. And she took few strides towards me and hugged me, “you must be anaira.” I nodded smilingly.
“I’m Misha, your to husband’s little sister.”
“Nice to meet you misha.” She smiled and hugged me again.
“Sorry bhai I am late, you know it was my friends party.” She made puppy eyes to Mr. Kohli and he smiled.
Holy cow! He can smile. Now that’s a news.
Dad filled up flutes for everyone and raised a toast.
“Come one ana bhabi take one.” Misha nudged told me.
“I don’t drink.”
“That day in the club I saw you doing shots.” Mr. Kohli whispered from my back. The hair on my neck stood up at the warm essence of his breath.
“That was the first time and they were only mild.” I replied looking over my shoulder but he leaned forward, his mouth almost near my neck and my heart skipped a beat at the closed proximity. But then he picked up a flute and shoved it in my hands.
“Bhai is really not a good influence on bhabi.” Amit commented and hi fived misha. Veer gave him a glare making me chuckle in response.
“To veer, ana and their happiness.” My dad said and everyone raised the toast and we clicked the flutes together.
I took a sip from my flute and it was sour yuck. I kept the flute back on the table.
After the celebration, “we will go back to London day after tomorrow.” Veer said to me.
How many bombs he is going to throw at me?
But as he said work is getting to much for him so, “no problem.” I told him and he sighed.
“Bhabi we will meet you tomorrow then.” Amit said from my back, I turned to him.
“Sure amit!”
I turned back to see Mr. Kohli but I saw him reaching for his car without biding his byes to me.
Is he angry with me now, what have I done?
I touched uncle and aunty’s feet for blessings and they kissed my forehead afterwards. Misha hugged me afterwards like there's no tomorrow. They were really sweet.
Veer~
I forgot to tell her about the registry marriage, her parents know but she doesn’t.
At the time we reached Mehra’s residency I stayed near my car and asked amit to bring her outside. I kept waiting for her but my phone buzzed and it was one of my client Mr.Romano.
"Chris."
“Hello Veer how you've been?”
“Perfect, how about you?”
“Fantastic as always, by the way I wanted to tell you that out deal is on and I expect the delivery on time.”
“Of course.” I said curtly.
“One more thing Veer next week my company is organizing an annual charity function for orphan kids and I would be honored if you grace it with your presence.”
“It would be my pleasure, count me in.” I accepted his offer and I heard faint click sound of heels from my back and I knew it was anaira. She kept standing at my back for few seconds before she called me out, “Mr.Kohli?” It was close to a whisper.
Why so nervous around me anaira? Either way you should be nervous because you will mine to play soon.
I turned out to see and I forgot how to breathe again. She was not tall, she was way too plum for my liking. I want my woman to be talk, slim and sexy. She was none of that, then how she managed to take my breath away every time I looked at her.
“Veer, Mr.Kohli are you there?” Mr.Romano spoke out but I kept staring at her and she at me. Anaira was the first one who break the gaze and looked away.
“Hello?” Chris called out again and I was brought back to reality.
“Yes, Chris I’ll be there.” My gaze turned back to her and I got an idea, “In fact we’ll be there.”
“We? Oh you mean your date?”
“I mean my wife.” I looked at her when I said the last word, it was a natural instinct. But she was looking the other way thinking something very deep. She didn't even realize I Address her as my wife. For the first time.
“Oh wow, when did that happen?”
“It’s going to happen tomorrow.”
“And you didn’t invite me.”
“My apologies Mr. Romano but I am in India at the moment but I’ll throw a after marriage party once I reach London.”
“No problem mate, anyways my heartiest wishes to both of you.”
“Thank you.”
“Can’t wait to see your bride Mr.Kohli, will see you soon.”
“Goodbye Mr.Romano." I mumbled and disconnected to call.
Anaira was busy in fidgeting with her fingers then I cleared my throat to get her attention. She looked at me with her large eyes and smiled.
How she manages to smile all the time?
“You wanted to speak something important to me?” She asked.
“Yes.” I breathed.
“I wanted to tell you this before you hear it from someone else.” She just hummed.
“I was about to tell you at the coffee shop itself but it slipped out of my mind. ” She looked at me confusingly, I knew she was getting impatient.
“When I told you that this marriage should be done as soon as possible, at that time I was suggesting—“ then I paused for a second,
“A registry marriage.” I finally declared and waiting for her reaction. When I decided all this I wished that she will be ready for this marriage and now she held a blank expression and for the first time I felt something weird inside me. It was,
Fear of losing.
I can’t lose, not this game. She has to say yes.
“I informed my parents about it and yours too and they don’t seem have any problem with it.” I said the truth.
“My parents know?” She clearly wasn’t aware of it, thank god I was the first one who told her this. At least she will not feel that I betrayed her.
‘Since when you started to feel about her feelings?’
My conscience asked but I concentrated more on anaira’s question.
“Yes, they do.” I answered. And she looked a bit shocked and ran her small palms on her face, she was clearly shivering.
“Look I know its too much for you, but my work is piling up and this merger is just adding more to it.” I tried to convince her but she gave me no reaction.
She looked pale and shivering at the same time.
Don’t faint on me you.
Next moment I held her hands in mine and they were ice cold, “are you okay?” I asked looking at her condition.
She can’t back out this time.
“Yes I am fine, I just need some time before I decide.” She said making my blood boil. I wanted to break something.
“I don’t have all time in the world Anaira!”
“Fifteen minutes that’s all I ask.” She almost plead to me.
“Of course.” And she got out of hold, we went inside the house and in matter of seconds she was out of my sight.
It’s only fifteen minutes, it will just pass in snap of a finger.
But no.
Every seconds passed seem like years. Then I remembered Misha hasn’t come yet so I called her but she didn’t pick up. I was speaking to amit about the same when anaira came and went straight towards the kitchen without giving me glance. Not that I cared.
After few minutes she came back and amit asked her to sit with us so sat besides me.
“Have you decided anaira?” I asked her but she didn’t answer. She was clearly playing the ignore game. After some time I stole some glances and observed that she kept playing with her food.
I was getting impatient now, I need my answer so I kept my palm on her thigh and she dropped the fork on her plate gaining everyone’s attention. But she covered it up with a smile and continued eating or should I say playing.
“ I don’t like being ignored Anaira.” I whispered to her and gave a squeeze to the thigh as a punishment. She placed her palm on mine which was on her thigh and placed it back on mine in a swift move.
“What do you want Mr.Kohli?” She whispered back annoyingly.
“It’s not what I what, but it’s what I need.” I stated.
“Then what do you need?” She sighed.
“Your answer.” I breathed but she checked the time in her watch before answering me.
“I think I have good three minutes before I answer.” I gave her a confused look.
“Fifteen minutes to think, have already forget Mr.Kohli?” She said and I remembered. She was clearly playing hard to get.
With that thought, I gave her a smirk. But amit cleared his throat to stop out little fight.
Then again dad asked her consent on this registry marriage and then she whispered a ‘yes’ and everyone clapped for us. After her affirmative response and got relaxed I felt like a big load of weight got off my shoulder.
Both of us father asked us to set up the registry marriage tomorrow and we agreed to that too.
To celebrate this her father got a champagne bottle and we all raised a glass but her.
At the same time misha came and she hugged anaira and apologized to me for being late. But I can’t stay mad at my little cupcake.
“That day in the club I saw you doing shots.” I whispered in anaira’s ear, she froze.
“That was the first time and they were only mild.” She replied in a little angry tone and I leaned in to pick another glass of champagne and her scent lingered around me. She smelled sweet yet unique. I finally picked up the glass and placed it in her hands.
“Bhai is really not a good influence on bhabi.” Amit commented and hi fived misha.
“To veer, ana and their happiness.” Her father said and we clicked our glasses and took a sip.
“We will go back to London day after tomorrow.” I told her after everyone were ready to go back home. I was again expecting her to say no or making some scene but,
“No problem.” She said surprising me ad felt a weird feeling inside of me.
“Bhabi we will meet you tomorrow then.” Amit said from her back and he winked at me to piss me off. She turned towards him and I went back towards my car. After few minutes we all drove towards home.
