Chapter Three Damn I hate my new job! At the old place I used to be a mover and shaker. I was in on all the big decisions. My opinions were valued and my power considerable. Nearly everyone treated me with deference, courtesy, and respect. Despite the fact that my father and I loathed each other there was the family name to be considered. That an Everett should suffer any slight at all was unthinkable. And yet I wasn’t just the boss’ son but a trusted and reliable executive. I had the prestige and responsibility that went with my position, and I consistently vindicated both with my performance. Here everything is exactly the opposite. I’ve been reduced to a mere functionary, a glorified (if that word even applies) gofer. Privy to nothing but trivia I’m not trusted at all and given noth
