Chapter 1 - New life
A whole month had passed and I had never felt so alive.
I got up from the bed with a smile, stretching my arms. The cottage was small but enough for one person to live, it had all the necessary items that I needed.
I flicked my hands in the air and a bright warm shimmery light appeared around my fingers. The utensils in the kitchen started moving.
Without even going inside the kitchen, I went towards the bathroom to take a shower and when I would come back the breakfast would be prepared.
It was the routine of my new life and I loved every part of it.
Humming a melody under my breath, I walked out of the shower and stood in front of the long mirror. I ran my big grey eyes over my reflection in the mirror.
I was wearing a bright yellow crop top with full length puffy sleeves and dark blue jeans. My wavy midnight blue hair that looked almost black inside was now long and reached my waist.
Still humming the same melody I put on a big ring on the middle finger of my right hand and thin three layered chains on my neck.
Letting my hair dry naturally, I opened the main door and inhaled a deep breath of fresh air. The cabin only had one big room, one kitchen, and one bathroom but it was enough for me.
The cabin belonged to Astrid's grandmother who sacrificed her life to save all of us.
Who would have thought the day would come when I would become friends with Astrid, all because of our family issues.
But thanks to Amara, I got the courage to leave my coven behind. I made new friends and it was hard for me to leave them but it was something I needed to do for myself.
Ever since growing up, I was reminded that being the best is the only option in life and if you're not on top no one would care about you.
I tried my best to live up to the standards of my coven but I was never good enough, I was always the weirdo of the coven that everyone avoided but no one could not say anything directly to me because my grandmother was the leader of the coven.
I stepped outside the cabin and the warm rays of the bright sun shining over my head welcomed me. The cabin was in the middle of the ground and had different plants everywhere around it.
When I moved here I tried my best to keep them alive but no matter how much I tried they started to wilt.
In the end, I had no option but to call Astrid, who was kind enough to renew the spell that died with her grandma.
All the covens had a source of power, Astrid's source of power was nature and that's why she was able to put the spell.
Whereas, my coven used the moon as their source of power but I was not like them. I could use the sun as well as the moon as my source of power.
Maybe it was part of the reason why I could never connect with them.
The birds were chirping loudly outside and the colorful butterflies were flying from one flower to the other. I paused to just look at them with happiness filling every part of my heart.
But a strange feeling appeared inside my body when my eyes caught the sight of the brown door. It was the door that could lead me outside. From the outside, it would look like a normal tree but in reality, the trunk was the secret door to enter.
The dark forest was not the place for everyone, I was never allowed to come here.
A huge part of me was still afraid to wander alone in the forest.
I never left the cottage and I was not planning to do it anytime soon. The dark forest was a scary place.
Shaking away the thoughts, I grabbed the small basket and started filling it with the fresh strawberries.
I walked inside and put the basket on the round table that had two chairs around it and walked towards the door at the end of the room.
The breakfast was sizzling in the pan and the warm aroma made my stomach rumble with hunger.
I grabbed a plate and started filling it with the food. Then filled the glass with fresh orange juice which I prepared last night.
I finished my food while watching the serene scenery outside.
I was not going to lie, I missed Amara. It was always great to spend time with her. She came here to visit me twice but left after an hour and I could not blame her for that.
She took her place as the Queen of the Slouteron Dynasty again and needed to do a lot of work to make some things right.
But I knew she could do it, she was a strong Queen earlier as well and now she even had Lucius by her side as the future King of the Kingdom.
I cleaned my plate and sat down on the chair. The boredom was killing me from the inside and no matter how much I tried nothing was working. I opened my spellbook to try to contact Amara or Astrid but there was no response from their sides.
Blowing out some air, I grabbed the compass which would show me the way out of the dark forest and opened the door of the cabin.
It looked like a normal chocolate brown compass but had a special spell engraved on its backside.
If Amara and Astrid could not come here it was time for me to visit my friends.
I grabbed the black side bag which I had borrowed from Astrid. I had worked with Astrid and I knew she always used the plants found in the Dark forest the most.
I walked towards the large brown door with small overlapping circles all over it and opened it with a smile.
