8. The Contràct

1857 Words
ROSE I was sitting in the copy room of the office, the only place where no female employee sneered at me and no male employee tried to be friendly. I was wondering if I could get away by just disappearing from here and as the thought came I stood up, already planning to make my escape. I will handle whatever happens but I just want to leave, run far away from here, from that arrogant arsehole. I grabbed the door knob but it twisted in my hand and the door was pulled open from the outside. The lady that I’d seen outside his office stood there smiling at me. "Mr. R. K. wants to talk to you," The lady said, her words as crisp as her white shirt and skirt. I don't want to go, I wanted to shout at her, but what I said was docile, so unlike me, "Yes, of course." I knocked on the glass door and heard his command to enter. When I was just inside the door, not taking another step further, and looking everywhere but at him, he cleared his throat to get my attention. I didn't look up, I couldn't. I was truly and really afraid. Besides the attraction I felt, I also felt like I was encroaching in an unknown territory. It was like I was entering a lion's den when he was starving. "Miss Kapoor." His commanding voice brought my eyes up to collide with his, automatically. The cool grey steel met my green ones. He gazed back at me from his perch, giving me time to take him in. His posture was relaxed, there was no sign of any confusion or frown or if he was thinking something, except the slightest curling of his lower lip between his teeth. He was gazing at me as if he wanted to know what was I thinking. For a second I imagined if he was concerned about me, but soon I discarded that idea. "Have a seat." He gestured towards the sofa. I took a step forward only to stop when when I saw him standing up from his chair. I looked at him and I was sure that in that moment I represented the deer in the headlights. He scowled at me as if I insulted him, and raised his brow in warning or question I didn't know at that point, and I didn’t wait to find out as I quickly rushed to take the seat. As soon as I sat, he thrust the papers in my face. I grabbed them, feeling my hands shake. A second later, a glass of cool water slid toward me on the table. Grateful, for I was feeling difficulty in swallowing, I drank the whole glass in one go. Making myself ready for anything written in this contract didn't do much for me as I read it. Because each word painted a horrible nightmare that I wanted to wake up from. Each word was as foreign to me as everything outside my home. And each word brought a sinking feeling inside me that promised to drown me alive. “CONTRACT” Between, The employer, Mr. Ryan Johnson K. (Owner and CEO of Ryan Arts & Commerce Co. Pvt. Ltd.), And, The employee, Miss Rose Kapoor (Resident of Green street, Dream Apartment, No. 407, Under the guardianship of Mr. Ajay kharanna. Ret.) I dug my nails in my palms as I read the information about me. He knew everything about me!! Tamping down the urge to ask how he got all this information about me. I read on. AGREEMENT A. The following are the terms of a binding contract between the Employer and the Employee. B. The main purpose of this contract is to have the "employee" available 24/7 to fulfil all the purposes and NEEDS of the "employer". C. The Employer and the Employee agree and acknowledge that all that occurs under the terms of this contract will be consensual, confidential, and subject to the agreements they have made. Additional demands by the Employee may be agreed in writing only when the Employee is ready to add another week to her employment when the demand is accepted. And so on it went. With every clause I could feel my heart beating like it wanted to escape my chest. With every sentence and demand I read it felt like someone was stealing my breath. And, as if that wasn’t enough when I reached the end of the contract, my whole world stopped and the ground shifted from beneath me. “If for any reason without the consent of the Employer, the Employee breaches the contract, she’ll suffer the consequences, i.e. The house under the name of Mr. Ajay kharanna, Opp. Heaven Garden, 72, will be seized by the Ryan Arts & Commerce, Co. Pvt. Ltd.” I looked up at him thinking, why did I feel the tiniest bit of attraction to this cruel and vile man. My eyes were blurry from the tears gathering in them but I closed them and willed the tears to dry up. I stood up still clutching the contract to my chest as I rounded the table and went to him where he stood watching my every move. "Thank god, your father is dead or he would have died seeing the man his son has become." I bit out through clenched teeth. Something flashed in his eyes, but disappeared as quickly. "I won’t stand for this," I poked into his chest as I advanced on him, "This is beyond ridiculous. You can't do this to me. I was bloody drunk!!!" I yelled the last part, my voice echoing in the cold office. And, then I crumbled to the floor as the tears I hid till then escaped my eyes. I cried for my freedom. I cried for the rage I was feeling. I cried for ever seeing him and meeting him. . . RYAN Seeing her like this, almost made me drop to my fûcking knees and apologize for ever hurting her and causing her the pain I glimpsed in her eyes. Almost. I didn’t know from where that thought came. I was feeling something funny. This woman had slapped me and ridiculed me, insulted me like no one ever had even dared to. If it was someone else back at home, I would’ve tore apart the other person by now for half of the shît but here she was, crumbling into pieces like I had wanted her to and I wanted to soothe her. Her sobs grated on my nerves, my hands itched to lift her up in my arms and to dry her tears. But, what I did? I turned around and went to sit behind my desk. Once seated, I fidgeted with the buttons on my sleeves, my feet tapping continuously on the floor as I willed her to stop crying. For fûcks sake. I never imagined to be this bothered by someone’s tears. No one ever gave a fûck about mine. And then as if she heard me, she looked up directly into my eyes and this time besides the hatred I saw the retribution. Her green eyes, with blue more prominent in the middle, shining bright with tears promised me revenge. I almost sighed in relief, as if I cared to see that fire in her eyes, as she stood up and came forward. When she was just a feet away from my desk she threw the contract in my face, the corner of it hit me on my lower lip but I managed not to show any discomfort as she leaned forward and said the words that made my heart race with approval and something more. "Mr R.k. I promise you, you'll regret the day you met me, the same way I do. I'll make you hate yourself for doing this to me. As much as I hate you." Saying that once again she turned around, ready to slam the door on her way out, but my next words halted her, "Miss Kapoor, your duty is to be a personal assistant to me, not to a copy machine. So just sit on your desk and if you've any difficulty finding it, I'm more than happy to show you." Without turning around she bit out the words, "No, thank-you." And left. Around three in the noon, I pressed the button for my P.A. when she didn't come I held the button down and opened the glass doors of my office. I knew the noise will eventually irritate her and after seven minutes of ignoring me, she finally came. Almost stomping on the floor like a kid. Her eyes flashed blue for a second as she regarded me. "Let me teach you something for further use, Miss Kapoor, 'What can I do for you?'" When she raised her brows high, I said, "That's how you'll ask me what I want." When a moment passed and I didn't get the response, I slightly tapped the documents lying on the desk in front of me. Her gaze automatically dropped to it as I wanted. Seeing the contract, her shoulders sagged a little bit. And, I wanted to kick myself. I don’t know why she affected me so much. I had spent a day looking for her weaknesses to use them against her yesterday and when I found out about her step father and the adopted family that she loved so much I decided to take advantage of it. But still, now I didn’t felt like I achieved something when that fire dimmed each time she was reminded of what I could take away from her loved ones. "What can I do for you?" She asked me, her eyes downcast and I didn't like it a bit. "Look at me while you talk." I said through clenched teeth. All the emotions I was feeling regarding this girl was making me mad and I didn't know on whom I was more angry, her or me? "What can I do for you?" She asked again, this time her eyes held mine. "Downstairs, you'll meet Mr Luis. My driver. He'll take you to my favourite restaurant, where you can have my regular lunch by the number 302. It will be already packed for you to just pick it." I took a deep breath as this part was hard for me. In the past I never thought about my employees whether they ate or not but for some reason I cared for her. "And, just take a half an hour break for your lunch and order whatever you like. They'll add that to the company's account." I waited for her to say something, anything but when her next words registered in my mind I was little too late to react as she disappeared from there. “f**k you, asshôle.” Well, she gave me my first chance to discipline her. And, I was more than eager to do it. . A. Gupta Check out my other completed books!! Innocent Temptation (Free, Ongoing) Saved By The Devil CAGED-A Dark Billionaire Captive Romance
