The Fall Ball

Chapter 7

Alpha Jake smiled at me, “Hello Rose how are you today?” He asks me.

"I’m doing good." I tell him.

He and my dad walk into the kitchen and Mom greets them. They talk as Mom finishes supper.

I walk in and take a cookie off the tray and try to get away before Mom notices me. “What do you think you're doing?" my dad asks.

I turn around to face him.

“You know those are for after supper,” Mom says to me, looking over her shoulder at us.

Alpha Jake laughs at us. “Hey Rose, why don’t you come sit with me in the living room. Your dad told me you had a strange dream last night,” Alpha tells me.

"Yeah, that sounds good." I walk into the living room with him. He sits down and smiles at me.

He holds up his hand, with two cookies in it.

“Shh, don’t tell. Your mom kind of scares me sometimes,” Alpha tells me. I laughed and grabbed the cookie.

"She can be scary at times," I tell him. We both laughed and ate our cookies.

“So tell me about this dream,” Alpha Jake says. I sigh.

"You're gonna think I’m crazy." I tell him, while looking out the window.

“No I won’t, I fully believe that dreams serve a purpose to us, sometimes you need others input to help you understand it though,” he tells me.

"As I was falling asleep last night, I heard a strange voice saying my name. The voice was so soft I could hardly hear it at all. Once I was able to make out the voice, I saw a glowing figure. The figure became clear to me. It was a beautiful woman with long black hair and crystal blue eyes." I say to him.

"She told me she was Selene, the moon goddess." I continue to tell him.

I look over at Alpha Jake, he is listening intently to me.

So I continue. "She explained to me that she had waited a long time to meet me. She also told me that I have a gift and am extremely special. She told me I would do great things." I finish explainig.

“Did she say anything else?” Alpha Jake asks.

"No she didn’t. But she did show me something or someone I suppose. She showed me a wolf. It was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. The fur was as white as snow, but the eyes amazed me the most. They were green, but not just any green. An electric green," I say.

I explain to Alpha how I felt drawn to run my fingers over the glittery snow-white wolf. But when I asked if I could touch the wolf the goddess told me that I would feel different if I touched her.

"It felt like I wasn’t in control of my body, and I felt a spark. Then a voice in my head spoke to me. The voice said it was a pleasure to meet me and that it couldn’t wait to see what the future will hold for us." I pause and look at Alpha Jake.

"And then I woke up." I finish telling Alpha about my dream.

He is just looking at me and nodding his head. I could tell he was thinking deeply about what I had said to him.

“Food is on the table,” my mother yells from the kitchen.

Alpha Jake stands up and looks at me. “Let me think about this for a little bit and I will let you know what I can figure out,” he tells me.

I looked at him startled.

"You don’t think I’m crazy?" I ask him.

“No I don't. Like I said earlier, I believe dreams serve a purpose. And this one might be extremely helpful if we can figure it out,” he tells me.

We sit at the table with my parents. “So how excited are you about the ball?" my mom asks Alpha.

“I think it is a great opportunity to meet members of the other packs, and hopefully some of our young members will be able to find their mates,” he says.

"Yeah so exciting, watching everyone find their mates. Being able to watch them all find their other halves and start their journey toward happiness is wonderful. Do I have to go?" I ask.

Mom growls at me, “Finding your mate is such a special thing. That bond is unbreakable. It is the one thing we all hope to discover one day. Some of us never get that and some of us find it. However, some of us don’t get to keep it.” As she finishes, I notice that she has tears in her eyes. “Excuse me Alpha, but I’m not feeling well and am gonna head to bed,” she says.

“Not a problem Kat, try to get a good night's rest,” Alpha tells her.

Dad stands up and looks at me, “She will be okay, sometimes she struggles with people who don’t agree with the mate bond and joy it brings people.” Dad starts to clear the table.

“Hey Mac, go take care of Kat. I’m sure Rose and I can clean up,” Alpha says.

"Yeah Dad please check on Mom, I’m sure she needs you right now. We will clean the kitchen, then I will walk the Alpha out and head up to bed." I tell him.

“Okay, good night, Rose. Love you and see you in the morning,” he says as he walks towards their room.

Alpha and I clean the kitchen. He helps me wash the dishes and put them away. As we finish, he looks over at me.

“So Rose, what do you think about your dream?” he asks me.

I looked at him confused. "I don’t really know. It had a lot of information, but none of it made sense to me. I think my subconscious mind is just trying to make up reasons as to why I don’t have a wolf." I explain to him with a sigh.

“I don’t believe that is the case at all. I think your subconscious knows more than you know at the moment. I am positive you have a wolf; I have smelled her since you were a baby. I have always thought that you are special,” he tells me.

I ask him, "You think I have a wolf?".

"Yes, when you were a baby. After Mac and Kat had agreed to take you in, I came by for a visit to see how everything was coming along. I could sense your wolf then, she is a very powerful wolf. When pups are young, even the King can not sense their wolf. Your wolf scent comes shortly before the wolf form comes forward." He tells me.

"Maybe, but why hasn’t she come forward before? And why can no one else sense her? And why did Selene come to me in my dream?" I ask him with a sigh.

“I don’t know, but I will look into it and let you know,” he tells me.

I walked him to the door and told him to have a good evening. Then I headed upstairs to my room. I look at my desk, and the book from the library hangs out of my bag.

I think I will read before bed.
