"That is your name, provided you are not lying," Noah grunted, shaking the dust from his hand. The blow was pretty hard, and any human would have fallen flat and broken some limbs. But luckily, he was a wolf who could handle that outburst of energy.
"Why would I lie?" Freya frowned, trying to evade the topic. The powers were gone, and there was no point in talking about it. Plus, she was sure he was not a human. It should have occurred to him before. He was able to climb to her balcony the other night and could sustain that blow when it would have definitely put a human in hospital for months. So why would she trust another supernatural being?
Noah scoffed. This girl was so gritty. She was like an untameable lone wolf one time and a timid deer another. How unpredictable can she get? She was definitely not human. And he needed to find it. How can he let his sister stay with a supernatural being who was trying to pass as a human? Who knows what her motives could be? And now that he thinks, why was she even here in their house?
"Don't pretend like you don't understand my question here. You are not that innocent, and I am not that patient!" Noah grumbled, walking towards a scowling Freya. She took two steps back in fear. But when she hit the wall, she wished she could vanish.
"I don't. I was in captivity my entire life, and your sister saved my life. Had you paid a little more attention to the breakfast table, you would know?" Freya tried to put on a determined face. Even if her secret was out, she could still pretend like she had no idea what was going on.
Noah gaped at her, trying to read her expression. When he could not, he shrugged. "Hit me." He ordered, making her confused. When Freya stared blankly at him, unable to understand this boisterous request, he growled back at her. "Hit me as you did back then!"
His deep, hoarse voice filled with fury made her blanch in fear. She did as asked. She hit Noah's firm, flat chest as hard as she could. As soon as her knuckle touched his toned chest, she cringed in pain. It was as if he hit something made of iron. How strong was he? Why would he ask her to do something like that?
"What the f**k!" Freya complained, trying to get away from the awkward situation. But one side was this huge dustbin, another side sat the bench she had tried to punch, behind her was a strong wall and in front of her was a man with iron as his chest. So she stared grumpily at him for a full minute, then jumped on the bench to make her way out.
Noah looked at her with a baffled expression. Last night she looked so surreal and innocent in that red dress, and today she was a rowdy rogue? No matter how hard he tried to push her back to his mind, she intrigued him. He ran a little to catch up to her sloppy pace.
"I will stick around till I find out what you are hiding," Noah warned. It made sense. How can he leave his sister with someone who could punch him like a punching bag?
"Aye, Aye! Good luck with that." Freya rolled her eyes, making her way to the back seat of the car. Noah scoffed at her arrogance. He had never met anyone more cheeky. But he did not pester much, taking the driver's seat.
They had hardly left the place when purplish smoke followed by a man appeared out of nowhere in the backyard of the ice cream parlor. He sniffed the air and snickered. This time, he was in the correct location. He might have missed Freya by some moments, but he could tell she was here from the smell of the residual power that was her signature. He walked inside the parlor, trying to see if she was still there. But when he could not find her, he came out, snuffing to search her. Once he was certain about the direction she went, the man smirked before an armor shielded him from head to toe, hiding his pleasant face.
This man ran like he was the fastest man on earth. The heavy armor was not enough to slow him down. He quickly caught up with the moving vehicle. He jumped over the car, standing before it, making an impact. Noah pulled a sudden break, making Freya jerk. Her first reaction was to complain. But when her eyes met with the golden figure, fear sipped in. They have finally found her. She must have left the trace of her magic for them to locate her. How could she forget to clean it or mask it? Now not only her but Noah was also in danger because of her.
Noah looked at the golden, sturdy figure grunting at them. He tried to remember if he had ever made an enemy looking like that or if it was someone who has improved themselves to challenge him. No matter what, that golden armor will not be enough to save him. Noah was angry and was dying to punch someone for a while. Now he has a target.
Before Noah could even get out, the man jumped on top of the car, trying to crush it. Their first reaction should be to get out of the given situation, but Freya was too stunned and too scared. Noah hissed. He was no longer sure if she really punched him earlier. She was a timid girl who was afraid of everything.
Noah quickly got out of the car. He growled at the golden figure, challenging him for a fight. It was enough to capture his attention. He roared at him before jumping to the ground next to Noah. He tried to punch him, but Noah dodged it with ease. His foolish uncalculated move gave Noah an opening enough to throw a punch at his rib cage. But it did not hurt this man like Noah had expected. He did not even groan in plain.
It startled Noah, but he quickly hinted to Freya to run from that situation before the man could react to his punch. This time Freya followed the instruction without hesitation. She quickly got out of the car, trying to run into the forest. But she had barely reached the edge of the road when this man toppled Noah in an expeditious surprise move, catching up to her. Noah was fast to stand back, but by now, it was clear this man was after Freya and not him.
Noah howled with rage. He quickly shifted into his humongous grey black wolf, attacking the man in golden armor. In the process, he ripped his armor, hurting his shoulders as the blood spewed from his wound. He wasn't expecting an alpha wolf to be protecting Freya. How stupid was he not to realize the blessed one?
The man grunted and looked at Freya as if trying to tell it was her lucky day. But next time, she won't be this lucky. Before Noah's wolf could bring more damage, he opened a portal using the magic ring and jumped inside it, leaving a petrified Freya and an angry Noah with thousand questions.
Noah quickly shifted back to his human self, shaking his head in confusion and fury. Freya's eyes widened to see him walk shamelessly without covering his private part. Noah looked at her and scoffed, wondering if his naked appearance surprised her. She should be more worried about the attack by some magical being out of nowhere. It clearly wanted her and knew her! But he still took out his spare cloth from the trunk before talking to her.
"I will ask again, who are you? Not your name." Noah demanded. He was serious about finding it out and would not accept any bullshit. His car was damaged, and the girl was staying with his sister. It was not safe anymore.
"A terrible witch," Freya whispered.
"A witch who can throw a punch like that?" Noah quacked his brows in confusion. This information was new to him. He had never seen a fighter witch. But when it came to doing the actual fighting, she was running away.
"I could convert my magic to anything I want," Freya muttered in her defense. She was a special one, her mother said. She could transform her magic into anything she wanted and direct it in any way she wished.
"You did pretty well back there. Then why did you freeze now?" Noah probed. It was a unique ability.
"I have lost my powers. Even I don't understand how it appeared for that brief moment. I was equally surprised. The man in golden armor must have sensed it and followed me here." Freya sighed.
Freya was no longer safe in this town. And she can never stay with Naomi now and put her and Julius's life at risk. Noah was her only option if she had to survive here and find Elsa. She had seen how the golden warrior feared Noah's wolf. But how can she tell that to Noah without giving much away?
"We must leave before more of them come. You have to tell me the rest when we are back. That thing still drives, so get inside." Noah rumbled, unsure what to do about the whole ordeal. He knew he has to move her from Naomi's home. But the real question standing before him was, was he ready to take part in her problems?
Freya did not protest. She moved towards the back seat. But then she walked to the passenger seat to sit beside Noah. It kind of gave her a more secure feeling. Noah chuckled a bit at that but kept his amusement mostly to him.
The car weighed down with deafening silence, except for the sound coming from the radio. Freya looked outside the window the entire time, wondering if she was really a terrible witch who would fail to get her mother out of that cage. She glanced briefly at Noah with hope, again looking outside, pondering if her powers would show up again and what exactly triggered it back then.
"A terrible witch!" Her voice repeated in Noah's head, making him chuckle a bit. He looked at her beautiful face from the side of his eyes. His heart boomed out of his chest to see the tinge of worry in her perfect face.
