Alpha Goes to the Market Place

As I and my Beta Justice are getting ready to go to the market square of the royal pack, I still can’t understand why Alpha King called me here. I have other things to do besides meeting other kings. I was traveling to other packs in the North American kingdom building strong alliances and looking for my mate. I’m 26 years old now. Most werewolves find their mate when they turn 18, but I guess the moon goddess has other plans for me. I don’t necessarily want a mate. I just need a Luna for my pack and someone to keep my wolf calm. Some alpha wolves have been known to go a little crazy when they don’t have their mates by the time they are 30. The elders of my pack have suggested I get a chosen mate, but if I have to have a mate, I’ll wait for my fated mate, at least up until the last minute so that my wolf will be ok.

“Justice, tell me again why I need to be here for this Alpha King summit? I mean, I know I am the king’s alpha, but I can better serve him by visiting the packs and maintaining the relationships with the alpha’s in our kingdom. Why is it so important for me to meet the king of the African continent at this time?”

“King Jesse explained it to you already. He wants to introduce you to King Ezuna because of the new trade proposal he wants to make and this is your area. You suggested that we start trading with other kingdoms for more natural medicine and building an exchange program for healers. King Ezuna’s kingdom has the strongest healers, the best medicines, and the best teachers of the art of healing. Not to mention that King Ezuna is a descendent of the great African healer, Siyomara.” My beta answers.

“Since you are so versed in this, he could have just sent you and I could have kept traveling through the country.”

“Well, there is another benefit to you meeting the king. You wanted permission to travel to some of the packs in the Caribbean islands. Prince Kutalek is the alpha of the largest pack in the Islands and several of the other packs fall under the African Kingdom, not to mention the alliances King Ezuna has in Europe, Australia and Antarctica. If you want to travel the world, this can be your way into those kingdoms.”

My beta is always looking at the big picture. Sometimes I get tunnel vision, but my Beta keeps me grounded and is planning for our next move when I’m distracted. He knows how I like to operate. We are in perfect sync in leading and growing our pack.

“Ok, Justice, you do have a point. It will be very beneficial to meet this king. I know King Jesse thinks very highly of him. I know that they are personal friends and have been close since they were younger. I guess for the sake of the kingdom, I can even suffer through spending a couple of hours at the market square.” Justice knows how much I hate being in the market square during festivals or when we have visiting packs. The security is crazy with so many different wolves in the area. It's easier for rogues or lone wolves to get through. That’s not always a problem, at least with the lone wolves, they usually just want to be a part of the fun and get some of the food. Some of the rogues are there to cause problems and pick out weaknesses in our security.

“Justice did the other packs send reinforcements for this weekend’s summit?”

“Yes, everyone wants to make sure there are no problems or issues with all of the kings meeting in one place. All of the guards from our kingdom will be wearing their traditional pack colors. The guards for the traveling kingdoms will be wearing their traditional pack warrior uniforms and colors. “ My beta answers.

“Ok, we will leave most of our warriors to patrol the perimeter. We’ll only have about 12 of our strongest with us.”

“Ok alpha, that sounds like a plan. Let's go out for some drinks after our meet and greet this evening. With all of the traveling wolves, we may get lucky and meet our mates this weekend.”

Justice has also been looking for his mate. He travels with me a lot when I’m going to other packs. We leave the Gamma back at the pack to run things while we are traveling. The Gamma already has his mate and a couple of pups, so he does not want to do much traveling anyway.  The three of us grew up together, so I know the pack is in good hands when I and Justice are traveling.

Justice and I are staying at the royal pack’s packhouse so we don’t have that far to travel to the village. Normally, we would have been traveling with king Jesse, but he wanted to meet up with King Ezuna early so they could catch up. Justice and I decided to leave closer to the meeting time so that we can get in and get out. Walking into the market square, the vendors have outdone themselves for this event. There are so many different food stations and one-of-a-kind treats everywhere. The pups are all running around having a good time at the games and food stations. I am looking forward to having a pup or two of my own running around. My wolf agrees with me. He is excited seeing the pups playing. Justice and I continue walking toward the center of the market.

My wolf is now starting to get super aware and vigilant. I have never seen him act like this before. I mean, he is an alpha wolf, so he is always aware of his surroundings, but now, it's like he is looking for something specific and is getting very impatient.

“What’s wrong Zor, do you sense danger?” I ask my wolf.

‘I sense our mate is near. You have to find her. Why are you still standing around?” Zor asks.

“Come on buddy, there are thousands of people out there. How am I supposed to find her? It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack. “

‘Use your nose. If I can sense her, we should be able to smell her as long as she doesn’t leave.”

Thinking about what Zor said, I start sniffing around. I turn to the east entrance of the market and get a hint of the most incredible smell I have ever smelled in my life. It smells like walking into a bakery after they’ve made fresh blueberry muffins. It's just plain yummy.
