Sighing, I move until my back is pressed against the wall. My head flops back, slamming into the brick behind me. Wincing, I put a hand to my head and struggle to figure out what to do. I look over to the doorway that is a few feet from me.
‘How am I supposed to get over there?’
‘Crawl.’ my wolf whispers.
‘Well thank you captain obvious, but I can’t without hurting my foot.’
‘Yes you can. Don’t be stupid.’ she sasses.
Rolling my eyes, I slide myself slightly closer to the door. Gritting my teeth, I grab onto the door jam, trying to pull myself up. I am only able to raise my hips off the ground a millimeter before I flop back to the floor with a grunt. My arms were so weak and brittle from the countless beatings, I could barely hold myself up. Leaning back against the wall, I try to calm my breathing. The sound of footsteps nearly overwhelms me, but I remain sitting against the wall.
“Luna?” a voice calls, walking up in front of me.
Opening my eyes, I stare up at the man in annoyance.
“Don’t call me that.” I growl.
“Woah,” he says, backing away from me with his hands up, “Sorry. I didn’t know.”
“I’m not your Luna.” I snap.
“You aren’t Alexander’s mate?” he questions.
“No.” I spit, trying to get up again.
A smile comes onto his face, as he steps forward and holds out a hand.
“Good. Then, I’m Sebastian.” he says.
“Um. Nice to meet you, but I can’t exactly get up, so do you mind…..” I trail off.
“Oh..Oh! Yeah.” he exclaims, grabbing my arms and helping my rise to my feet.
“Thanks.” I whisper, as I lean back against the door jam again. “My crutches are in the room over there. Do you mind?”
“Not at all!” he yelps, as he nearly sprints to the doorway.
He grabs the crutches and brings them back over to me with a slightly panicked look on his face. A laugh involuntarily leaves my lips because of his expression.
“What?” he asks, putting the crutches under my arms.
“Nothing. You just looked really worried for a second.” I giggle, putting a hand over my mouth.
“Well you can’t have pretty girls falling and hurting themselves can you?” he teases, placing his hands in his pockets.
“You do this with all the girls then?” I joke.
“No. Just you.” he smiles.
“Lisa.” I say.
“What?”
“My name….It’s Lisa.” I repeat, giving him a small smile.
“Well that’s a beautiful name, Lisa.” he whispers, moving a stray lock of hair from my face.
A deep blush darkens my cheeks as I turn my head away and bite my lip.
He lets out a small chuckle and asks, “So what happened to your foot?”
“Oh you know, I’m just the sad little gunshot victim.” I huff.
“Gunshot victim?” he asks, instantly serious.
Sighing, I lean my weight onto my crutches.
“Yeah. Gunshot victim. Your brother shot me.” I explain, shrugging my shoulders.
“My brother?” he asks, c*****g his head to the side.
“Well…..I just kinda figured...Normally no one’s allowed on the same floor as the Alpha’s bedroom, unless they’re family..” I shrug, scratching the back of my neck awkwardly.
“Alex shot you?” he growls.
“Yes Well..” I sigh, “No. He gave the order. Simon shot me.”
“I will kill him.” he spits, his eyes going black.
“No. I’m fine. I’m used to it anyways.” I try to reason.
“You’re used to it. What did you used to get shot everyday?” he exclaims in disbelief.
“No, but I’ve been abused for awhile, so it’s okay. I’m used to it."
“You shouldn’t have be used to it!” he yells, slamming his fist into the wall.
I cower back away from him, my fingernails clawing at the wall behind me. His black eyes shoot to mine and I gulp in fear.
“Are you scared?” the wolf booms, stalking towards me.
Nodding my head frantically, I harshly turn my head the other direction as he raises up his hand.
“You think I’m going to hit you?” he whispers.
Turning my head back to look over at him, my fear slowly dissolves as I take in his expression. He has a shocked look mixed with disbelief on his face. He immediately starts shaking his head to the point where I fear his neck may snap in two.
“I will never hit you. Or any woman. I’m not like that.” he spits, still shaking his head.
“I-I’m sorry…..I-I just assumed.” I stutter, wringing my hands in front of me.
“He will pay, Lisa. You didn’t do anything wrong.” he snaps, running his hands through his hair.
“How do you know that?” I whisper.
“Because in the short time that I’ve known you, I can already tell that you aren’t a fan of trouble. You wouldn’t of done something unless you had to.” he booms, before taking off down the hall.
“Sebastian,” I call, hobbling after him, “Where are you going?”
“To teach him a lesson. He can’t keep going around hurting innocent girls. It’s not what’s best for our pack. If he keeps this up, I legally have the right to take over this pack. And so help me goddess I will do it.” he vowed, turning and storming down the hall.
I hurry after him the best that I can. My arms are on fire and they feel as if they would break off as we reach the kitchen. Alex is sitting at the table wearing wire framed glasses and reading the newspaper. When we enter he looks up with a smirk on his face, which quickly slips into a vicious glare.
“Brother,” he spits, “I see you met my mate.”
Sebastian turns around and gives me a look of disbelief.
“I am not your mate! I rejected you!” I yell in anger.
“And I rejected your rejection.” Alex shrugs, going back to his paper.
“You can’t do that!” I exclaim.
“I am Alpha here. I can do whatever I want to do.”
“No. You can’t.” Sebastian growls.
“Sebastian, I don’t believe that this is any of your business.” my mate snaps, sending another glare his way.
“Yes, Alpha, I think that this is my business. You shot an innocent girl in the foot. I can very well take over as Alpha right now if I wanted to." Sebastian spits, stalking closer to Alex.
Alex rises from his chair, his eyes never leaving Sebastian's.
"You wouldn't dare." Alex growls.
“Try me,” Sebastian shrugs, “I’m taking this to the Council the first chance that I get.”
A sickening and spine chilling laugh spills from my mate's lips.
“You know what. You go ahead and try that. See where it gets you because you’re stupid to think that I don’t have members on the Council who do my dirty work. How do you think I became the most powerful Alpha of them all? I have the authority. You have nothing.” Alex says in a deadly tone.
Cocking his head to the side, Sebastian smirks, “Fine. So I can’t take this to the Council. But I have something that you will never get.”
“Really? And what’s that?” Alex asks in a sarcastic tone.
“Lisa,” Sebastian snickers, “I have Lisa and you’re never gonna get her. She doesn’t want you.”
The room falls deadly silent. My eyes never leave Alex as I watch the different emotions that cross over his face. Anger. Rage. Uncertainty. Sorrow? For a split second his face looked heartbroken, that was quickly replaced with a look of anger, but for a second he was sad.
‘Did he want me?’
‘Of course he wants you. He’s your mate.’ my wolf mutters.
‘He never seemed to care about us before!’
‘No matter how evil every mate always does.’ my wolf sighs.
“Don’t you ever say that to me again. Do you understand me?” Alex says calmly, his voice holding all his power.
Sebastian flinches away and backs into the wall.
“Answer me when I talk to you, pup! Do you understand?” He snaps again.
My lips part and I stumble back into the doorway at the sheer power of his voice.
“Yes.” Sebastian whimpers.
My eyes are glued to Alex, not caring about Sebastian anymore. My wolf is going crazy in my head, begging me to go forward and comfort our mate.
“She may not want me and she may despise me. I don’t really care, but hear me when I say she will never be with anybody else. If she ever tries, I will personally rip that person apart limb by limb. Do you understand me?” Alex spits.
Again, Sebastian frantically nods his head.
“So, no. You don’t have her. She is mine and will always be mine, until the day that I die.” Alex huffs.
At this point, his eyes are completely black and Sebastian is cowered back in the corner, scared of the power his Alpha holds. His voice does not affect me. If he wasn't my mate, I would be cowering just as badly.
“Do you understand me?” he snaps again.
Sebastian lets out a whimper and nods his head again.
“Good. Now get the hell out of my house.” he growls.
Sebastian shoots up from his position on the floor and sprints out of the house. I turn towards Alex and his dark eyes come in contact with mine. Closing his eyes, he turns away from me and leans his head against the wall. Breathing heavily, he looks to be trying to calm himself down. Biting my lip, I shift from foot to foot, debating on what to do. My heart says stay and calm him down. While, my brain says that I should run for my life. After a short moment, I choose my heart and walk up to him quietly. His breathing is ragged and I can hear his heart pounding from where I am standing. After hesitating for only a second, I gently place my hand on his back and rub lightly. The muscles under my palm tense and his breathing stills. I quickly retract my hand, thinking that I did something wrong, but he sharply turns around and crushes me to his chest. A gasp leaves my lips as I immediately relax in his grip. He wraps his strong arms around my waist and places his face in the crook of my neck, breathing in my scent. We stand in each other’s arms for a short while until he finally moves away. He is wearing a softer expression on his face and asks me softly, “Would you mind making me something to eat?”
“Sure,” I breathe, “What would you like?”
“It doesn’t matter. Bring it to my office when it’s done.” he says and turns around leaving the kitchen.
Sighing deeply, I sag against the wall, closing my eyes. He had never spoken to me in that way. It was……..nice. Maybe this relationship could actually work….
