He smells like vanilla.
His composure is modeled and has the perfect figure in the world. I would understand if Aurora falls in love with him again. He is just too good looking to look away. Those golden eyebrows and his perfect jawline, smooth expression could make any girl chase after him. Why does he look younger and pale? I thought he should look older or something. Last time I checked, he is 44 years old now.
For uncertain reasons, I felt terrified. This alpha is a fine ass dude. If Aurora sees him again, she will definitely leave me in seconds.
Why am I feeling scared? I shouldn’t act like this? I'm an Alpha, too. I don’t think he is into Aurora anymore, because he is supposed to ask after her, right? Why is he dead silent about it and approaching me as if he’s my professor or something? Well, he is technically older than me. So, I guess he would react that way. I can’t help it whenever I think about the reason he left Aurora and finding out Aurora was an Omega, dumbfounds me.
Yet, I didn’t care. I still loved her as much as I cared about her.
Lake is like a God to the pack. The people loved him and he is back right now. What am I supposed to think about?
What can I do right now? How can I make Aurora and Lake not meet each other? What if Lake insists on meeting Aurora? I can’t stop him, but it will be beneficial for me if he ignores Aurora.
Then, I can easily separate them… I just don’t want Aurora to see him again. If Aurora goes through the pain she went through again, I will never forgive myself. I don’t care how handsome he is. I don’t want him meeting my fiance again.
Aurora is mine now. I’m not standing by and letting him take what belongs to me. And I’m still wondering when the hell did he get into my pack?
Gosh, I’m overthinking this.
“Bring more files.” He commanded me. I jerked out of my thoughts and realized he had checked all the files already.
That fast?
“Kay.” I nodded and grabbed a bunch and set it down beside him again. This time he sat down on the chair and went through the files and focused on them.
“Instead of standing there and staring at me, why don’t you make yourself useful and go through these files with me?”
“I don’t know what you are searching for.” I randomly said and went closer to the files on the table.
“Search for ‘The Fire Outburst On The Vargynja Pack’ inside those files. It happened 27 years ago.” He looked at his brown paper and let his gaze fall on me. “That should be easy to find, right?”
‘The Fire Outburst On The Vargynja Pack’, which happened 27 years ago? Why is he searching for that and what happened 27 years ago?
“Yes, it should, Alpha Lake.” I agreed, and he went back to his paper and glanced at me. “Why don’t you go find something to eat? Lunch, dinner or anything? We are gonna be here all night.”
“All night?” I reacted.
He is keeping me up all night? What are we searching desperately for, we have to use the night to search for? Dead bodies or something? Even the detectives take a break and continue their work on the next day?
“Yes.” He responded. “I took permission from your mother and she agreed.” He crossed his left leg over the other without taking his eyes off the papers.
Oh, man.
“Okay, give me a minute.” I excused myself.
“Ok, don’t take too long.” He announced. I agreed and rushed to my mother, who was still in the living room, sipping her green tea.
“Mom.” I called out to her.
She smiled and laughed. “You seem flabbergasted because of him, right?”
“Why is he here?” Went straight to the point. “I don’t care what he wants to do, but Aurora is safe here. She belongs to me. I don’t want her getting hurt again.”
“You are worried about him taking her away from you.”
“MOM.”
“Lower your tone, son.” She set her cup on the table and shifted her attention to me. “Lake is not here to take Aurora with him. He is here on some other mission of his.” She explained. “But you should ask yourself, what if Aurora doesn’t let go of him when she meets him again? They are mates, Aiden, and you can’t change fate.”
“Aurora hates him so much. They are family, mother. Not—”
“You are wrong, Aiden.” Her gaze fell on her tea on the table. “She doesn’t hate him. She just loathes him for abandoning her. She felt betrayed. Both of us know the truth, Aiden, and you can’t fight fate. And then again, Lake is Aurora’s first love. He adopted and raised her by himself. It’s natural for Aurora to grow attached to Lake.”
“Whose side are you on, mother?” My emotions were getting out of control. “You’ve always wanted us to stay together and get married. My wedding is in two weeks. Why did he have to show up now? Why are you telling me all this?”
“Maybe this is a good thing, Aiden. If Aurora meets him and rejects him, that will be a good thing. But if she doesn’t, you can’t do anything about it.”
“I love her, mother, you know that.”
“Do you want to stay the rest of your life hiding in the shadows with Aurora away from Lake?”
What is she saying? If I want to hide Aurora from Lake for the rest of my life?
I saw Aurora and Quinn coming through the doors in their bikinis. My heart sank when I saw Aurora taking off her slippers. I watched her closely to know if anything had happened, but she seemed calm.
“I'm starving.” Quinn whined and held Aurora's right shoulder as she took off her slippers. “And tired.” She complained.
“You are not the only one.” Aurora chuckled along with my mother, watching them. “I'm freaking famished.”
“Welcome home.” My mother put on a smile.
“Thanks, Luna.” Aurora replied and came over to me and hugged me. She slightly pulled away from me and kissed my lips. I got taken aback and relaxed a little, knowing she didn't know about Lake yet.
“Get a room, you guys.” Quinn said and sat close to my mother with her eyes on us. I saw the slight pain in her eyes and ignored it.
Aurora pulled away from me, not taking her sweet smile off her expression, and then a little frown came on. “What's that smell?”
My heart jumped. “Huh! What happened? What smell?” I tried acting as normal as possible.
“Vanilla?” She raised her brows. “Wow.” Her nose sniffed my suit. “Where did you get this perfume from? It smells really nice.” She commented.
Suddenly, Aurora's face squeezes in pain. She staggered a little. Her hands held her throat as she fell to her knees.
"Aurora." I panicked, and Quinn and my mother rushed to Aurora. "Aurora, are you okay?" I worriedly asked.
"Whose scent is this?”
