14 PHASE THREEWhen Bob, Young and Asmara arrived at the Black Dog by taxi from the airport, they were surprised to find that a party had been laid on for their return. However, it was really an excuse to make Asmara feel welcome and for the ‘wives’, as they were collectively known, to meet Young and Asmara.
Young’s and Asmara’s bags were taken up to his room and they were led out to the large table in the garden, which was shaded by three parasols. As usual in Thailand, the three women sat together, leaving the men to do the same.
Young was pleased to see that the two wives seemed to be accepting Asmara. He couldn’t tell by their spoken language, but their body language looked right.
