Chapter Five
Ben.
She was beautiful, I wasn’t sure how I missed it before. As I watched her move around the club it was almost like she was lit from within. Her skin seemed to glow.
Tonight, I was on the club floor, sat in the corner of the bar. Something I almost never did. The last time I had been here, Liv had seen Wyatt with one of his submissive. At the time I hadn’t really understood her anger and dismay. But watching Foxy move around the room, smiling and flirting I could feel the jealousy rage through my blood stream.
She wasn’t working with any subs tonight and for that I would be eternally grateful. There would be no way I could handle the sight of her touching another man, even if it wasn’t in a purely s****l way. My bear would tear its way out of my skin and kill everyone in the room.
She was ours. No one else got to have her. Foxy might be fighting it but I wasn’t going to. Sure, I wasn’t particularly happy with the hand I had been dealt but fate worked in funny ways. If Foxy wasn’t perfect for me then she would not be my mate. Everything else we could work out in time. If I could get her to give me a chance of course.
As if she could feel my eyes on her, she turned her head slowly from where she was talking animatedly to the bartender at the other side of the bar. A small, almost shy smile made her lips curve upwards. It reminded me of the smile she had given me from her apartment window. A little uncertain. It made her look younger.
Just how old she was I wasn’t sure, not that it really mattered to me. She wasn’t as young as Liv, but not quite as old as me.
I raised my glass in greeting before bringing my water to my lips. Raking a small sip as I studied her as she went back to her conversation. She had been intimate with the man she was talking to. I could tell by the way he hung from her every word. The thought made bile to rise up in my throat. Did she like him? Were they in some sort of relationship?
A growl tumbled from my lips, a low menacing sound and her head snapped in my direction in shock. The laughter dying on her lips.
“What the hell?” I heard the man she was talking to swear under his breath. “Is Ben growling at me?” There was actual fear in his face as he whispered the words to her.
Unblinking I stared at him. If he knew what was good for him, then he would move away. Before he found himself fired or worse.
“I…” Foxy smooth face creased as she frowned.
“Are you and Ben…. I thought it was Wyatt that I had to be worried about.”
It was my turn to frown. Wyatt? Why would he have to be worried about the wyvern? He was a happily mated and married man. He would never stray from Liv. Not only would her family slaughter him, but she might also kill him in his sleep if he even thought about it.
“It’s complicated. “Foxy shook her head mumbling, her eyes never leaving my face. “Ben?” She raised her voice as she called out to me. “Can I have a word in private for a second?”
In private? My bear smiled. He liked the idea of being private with her very much. Eagerly I nodded, pushing myself to my feet. “Of course, Foxy, the office is free.” Without another word I headed towards the stairs. I didn’t need to look back to know she was following. I could smell that she was.

“I don’t know what the hell you are playing at Ben.” Foxy had barely closed the door behind her before she started shouting at me. I barely heard her, now that we were alone. I was hyper aware of her presence. The scent of her skin enveloped me, and I moved without thinking.
My hands closed around her upper arms as I melded my body to hers. My face lowering over hers as I sought to capture her lips with mine.
She stilled instantly, as my mouth finally found hers. Her tongue traced the line of my lips, and it was her not me who deepened the kiss.
All control left me in a rush as I pushed her back against the closed door. My tongue swept into her mouth, greedy with need. One big hand slid down her thigh, to hoist her leg over my hip. I wanted to take her right there against the door. Bending my legs, I fit myself more snugly between her thighs. And the smallest of moans fell from her lips. I swallowed the sound down.
This was everything. Everything I had wanted and needed from the moment I had realised that she was my mate and been right under my nose this entire time. There was no way she could deny me now, not when she was kissing me the way she was.
“Stop.” As quickly as it had begun, she was gone, her smalls hands pushing against my chips. For a moment she stood with her back to me, her shoulders heaving as she tried regaining her breath.
“Foxy?”
When she turned, she had two fingers pressed against her mouth. “That shouldn’t have happened.”
My heart sank. “Yes, it should, the attraction is growing and….”
She didn’t let me finish. “Its doesn’t matter if its growing or not Ben, we can’t be together. I can’t even stay here.”
Narrowing my eyes, I stared at her. “What do you mean you can’t stay here Foxy?”
Suddenly I was nervous. Because I knew deep down what she was about to say, and I didn’t want to hear it.
“I have to leave and soon, I was going to talk to you after my shift and ask for my wages…” she trailed off, her face unsure. “I know I have no right to ask and that I am breaking my contract, but I need to get as far away from this place as possible before my family….”
A growl tore its way from my lips. “You need money?” mumbling I made my way passed her towards the safe in the wall. Using my fingerprint to unlock it, I gathered a was of notes into my hand. “Is that why you kissed me back Foxy? Butter me up so I would give you money. Here. “I tossed it in her direction. And the notes fell like confetti around her. “Help yourself.”
She didn’t make a move to pick any of it up. Instead, she just stared at me with wide sad eyes. “That isn’t why I kissed you Ben and you know it.”
I wanted to believe her; I really did. But I couldn’t seem to swallow down the anger at hearing she wanted to leave. “No?” I raised an eyebrow at her.
“No, I am very attracted to you. I kissed you because I wanted to.” She admitted.
“Then why are you leaving. I would be a good mate; I would protect you.”
Turning away, she ran her fingers through her bright red hair. “You’re my boss Ben, and ….”
“You’re fired.”
“What?” she whirled around in shock.
“I said you’re fired Foxy. You’re leaving anyway, aren’t you? So, it shouldn’t matter, take whatever is owed to you, hell take it all if you need it. I don’t care anymore. But your fired and I want you out of the club in ten minutes.” I didn’t even know why I was saying it. I didn’t want her to leave. I wanted to beg her to stay.
“Lola.” Tears tinged her voice and for a second, I didn’t know what she was saying. The confusion must have shown on my face. “My real name is Lola, my actual real name. not the name I gave Wyatt when he employed me. You are the only person outside my family that know my birth name.”
“Lola.” I tried the name out. If a name could taste of anything then hers would taste like honey. My eyes closed as I tried to fight down the anger. I had to be careful with my temper before I lost her totally.
When I opened them. She was gone and the money was still on the floor. She hadn’t taken a single penny.
