As clients came and went throughout the day, I have to admit the day went fast. This has to be the busiest Saturday in ages, luckily the owner and her daughter were in today and helped out with clients and doing alterations on some dresses. I did say to Sophie it was weird for her to be here on a Saturday but I’m not complaining about the extra hands.
As the last client leaves, we tidying up the front of the shop, I head to the back with all the coffee cups and put them in the dishwasher, Sophie tidying up the gowns we were working on and the sewing kits. Sandra, the owner calls us through to the front of the shop for a catch up she says. We start with chatting up what’s been going on in our lives, my split with Martin and buying my own place. Sophie and Matt lives haven’t changed apart from me living with them for the last few months. I chuckled at that. The conversation soon getting serious and all business.
“The sales of your designs Alice and you too Sophie are rocketing, and the stock is just sitting. You know the agreement with that, I take a percentage of the sale of your design. Well, I’m going to stop that. I’m selling up girls.” We both sit in shock. She goes on to explain that her husband has been promoted and they are moving to California next month. She wants to take the stock of dresses as they are bought with her money, she will sell them on when she moves but everything else she is leaving. All the fabrics and accessories. Most of the equipment Sophie and I bought ourselves, so she won’t take that. She wants us to continue and is willing to rent the shop to us as she owns it outright.
“You two are established designers, the shop will thrive with you two taking full charge. You have practically run the place anyway and your designs are what make the money" she goes on to say. “think about it, we can sort out details later but seriously think about it" she leaves us there shocked.
We quickly lock up the shop and head home. Both of us stayed silent as we drive and walk into the house. Stuart still here, he and Matt playing Xbox in the lounge. Sophie and I head to the kitchen as the boys are engrossed in the game they are playing.
“What are you thinking" Sophie asks first.
“I have no clue where to start" I say as I make coffee “what do you think?” I throw the question back at her. She grabs our work diary, a pad of paper and a pen and starts writing numbers down. I sit beside her and check what she’s writing.
“If the rent stays at what she says and we stay as busy as we are, over the next 6 months we are fully booked really and ninety percent of them are our designs, and if she is no longer taking a cut, it will be more, we have already got the materials for most of them. This will be our profit after 6 months.” She circles the figure and I’m actually shocked that’s how much we could make.
“Sandra has always limited us to how much advertisement and bridal shows we can go to, if we build on that in between clients, that figure could be double.” Sophie makes a valid point.
“We could approach the local college to get apprenticeships in, remember that clothes factory we went to, it was crap, but the experience was worth it" I say as Sophie writes out what we can do to make it a better opportunity.
Looking at it on paper it makes so much sense to go ahead but the both of us are so unsure about it. Matt and Stuart soon come into the kitchen seeing us with papers lying all around us, they sit with us as we explain what’s happened.
“I think it will work out great, the rent for those shops might not be that high though. Maybe bargain with her, I looked at renting one before I bought the warehouse behind the shop, the rent its half of what she’s asked for. But she is leaving some stock so she might be bumping up the rent, to cover her loses.” Stuart explains. He offers to contact his financial and business advisor, the same guy Matt uses for his accounts, we agree to his help and we relax a little knowing we have the support of our men.
We sat and chilled for a little while when Stuart announces that he has not yet been home. He spent the whole day playing Xbox with Matt. He suggests I stay at his tonight as tomorrow is Sunday and he has no games or training, we can have a lazy day at his. So, after having dinner with Sophie and Matt, I go and pack an overnight bag and we head to Stuarts place. We arrive a little after 9pm to his place, stopping at the shop for some shopping as Stuart said he didn’t have any food in the house.
Walking into his place didn’t feel as weird as I thought it would, after putting the shopping away, we were soon sitting on the sofa watching a movie. He decided to put on Avengers End Game. I haven’t seen any of the Avenger movies, or Iron Man. They were not the types of movies Martin liked. When I told Stuart, I hadn’t seen any of the movies before this one a few minutes into. He turned it off and said we would do a marathon over the next few weeks so I could get the whole story.
In the end we just made out on the sofa and it got heated quickly. He carried me to his room, maybe carried is not the right word, he flung me over his shoulder and practically ran to his room. He threw me down, making me bounce a little and I was in fits of laughter. My laughter soon stopped when I saw the look in his eyes, they were dark, and he had this weird smirk on his face.
He crawled up the bed, so he was towering over the top of me, and soon my clothes were gone, and we were both sweating and panting. And we hadn’t even had actually s*x yet, he fingered my p***y and sucked my clit until I came twice. I sucked his c**k and balls until he came down my throat. We were all for having s*x, but I am not on birth control and he had no condoms in the house. He did sound a little disappointed with himself. Especially when we went shopping before coming here.
Being honest I was a little bit disappointed myself, we had worked each other up that much we both just lay staring at the ceiling on our backs.
“I cannot believe I have no condoms in here. Babe, I’m sorry” he says as he rolls on to his side pulling me over to mine as we stare into each other’s eyes.
“It’s fine Stuart. Don’t worry. If I were on birth control it would be ok.” I tell him as I trace my finger over his tattoo on his chest. I haven’t been on birth control since a month before I left Martin, I mean even when I was on the pill he still wore a condom every time we had s*x, so I never thought anything of it. I am now kicking myself.
“I’ll buy a s**t load and split them between here and your place.” Stuart says as he pulls me closer and wraps his arms around me.
“I’ll go back on birth control, I only stopped because I wasn’t having s*x with Martin” not really comfortable talking about this with him just yet
“When was the last time you actually had s*x?” he asks propping himself up on his elbow to look at me
“Nearly four months since I last had an orgasm from Martin. Actual s*x maybe 5 months.” I tell him, trying to calculate it in my head.
“What?” he asks shocked.
“Yeah. We hadn’t had s*x for months before I left him and he hardly touched me so” I shrug my shoulders, kind of embarrassed.
“it’s been a few months since I last had s*x. I’ve never been a guy for one night stands, I had dated a girl for a little bit, but she was weird. Into really weird s**t, worse than Fifty shades.” He says as he shivers in disgust. I couldn’t help but laugh. “I hope to god you ain’t into any weird s*x babe, I don’t think I could cope with that” he says as he lies back down
“Nope. Pretty much a plane jane type of girl myself, maybe a wee bit of hair pulling and slapping of my ass” I say to him as he nods his head in agreement. “I’ve always wanted to try anal” I tell him as he looks at me shocked, but then just nods his head again with a smirk on his face.
After last night’s s*x opportunity forgotten about, we wake up and make a hearty breakfast together. Scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, and fried bread with beans. It was greasy and unhealthy, but we needed it. We chilled out watching the Marvel movies just like he said we would. After a couple movies, we head to get washed and changed. Sophie called suggesting we get our heads together before the meeting tomorrow with the business advisor friend of Matt and Stuart, so we head back to theirs.
Once we arrived, Matt was in the kitchen preparing a roast dinner for tonight. The smell hits you as soon as you walk through the front door, amazing. We soon sit at the table all four off us and Matt and Stuart tell us what kind of questions to ask him and what kind of figures he will want from the business. He will see himself how busy it will be by looking at the diary, and all the invoices for the stock of fabric and things are in the shop. It doesn’t take us long to get everything written down that we will need.
After dinner, Stuart heads home as he has to go see his brother at his parent’s place. I totally forgot he had a younger brother, he was the year below me at high school. I show him out as we stand beside his car, kissing like a pair of teenagers. He tells me he will stop off and get condoms on his way home. I have to laugh, he is still so upset with himself.
After waving goodbye to Stuart, I head up to my room and start packing up most of my clothes into the cases and extra bags I have. Leaving the smaller case for the stuff I will be wearing between now and next weekend. I also grab all the stuff from the laundry basket and pack them away. Sophie comes in to help a little, as we sit and chat about the business. She is worrying that it won’t work and to be honest I am is well, but we will know more tomorrow after the meeting, which is first thing in the morning, so we won’t be stressing throughout the day
Neither Sophie nor I could eat breakfast, as we both sipped our coffees in silence. I drove us to work, in silence. Both of us nervous wrecks for this meeting. We get into the shop, unlocking the door, but locking it straight behind us as we technically don’t open until 10am unless an appointment is made earlier than that.
We both gather all the stuff we need and check of the list as we go. We sit out the front waiting for this guy for the life of me have forgotten his name no matter how many times I look at his name in the diary. Just as I start to lose patience there is a gentle tap at the door as Sophie goes to let in Alan, got his name now.
After introductions and brief explanation of what we need help with, he looks over the paperwork we gathered for him and answering his questions, he types into his laptop and after about 15 minutes of waiting. He nods his head and these words I will never forget.
“Go for it. It will be brilliant.” He goes on to tell us, what he has calculated and where we could maybe save on money, the rent for the store is double what the area is worth. He thinks she will go down by at least a quarter but reduce it once the fabric is paid back as that is where she will be losing out on at the end of the day.
After he leaves, we lock the shop back up and take it what he advised us. It really is a no brainer. Even Alan said it. Matt, and Stuart both called asking how the meeting went, we tell them what Alan said and they totally agree with it. We decide to call Sandra a little later as the first client has arrived, and we haven’t even set up her dress yet for fitting.
As Sophie lets her in I quickly get the dresses for her. Three bride maid dresses, a bridal gown with a 6 foot train and a specially made mother of the bride’s dress. A little over the top but they are loaded, filthy rich, but lovely and honest girls. The mother of the bride’s dress is completed, and she wants to take it away with her today. As she pays Sophie I bag it up for her.
The day goes by quickly as we get our heads down and get the dresses and alterations done for the week. The diary is filled with at least one new bridal party every day, so we know it is going to be busy. Still need to call Sandra and let her know to get a contract written up after we have bargained on the rent.
Stopping for a quick lunch, we call Sandra. She is over the moon we have agreed to take it over. She did admit that she put the rent up because of the fabric but agreed to reduce it to half of original suggested figure, which is more than Alan suggested to ask for, but I will not grumble at that. She has said that anything from today will be all ours. She will bring the contract before the end of the day. We called Alan back to ask if he could come back tonight to see the contract before we signed anything, he agreed to be here at 430pm the same time as Sandra.
At 4pm, we locked up the shop to tidy up the back room. No more clients were booked in and the door has a bell if the door is locked, so we concentrated on getting our stuff gathered. Bang on time the bell goes Alan and Sandra both standing outside waiting. We quickly invite them in, and straight to business. Sandra totally at ease with Alan being present, said we were being very sensible about it all. She would not have had us sign it without getting advice from someone.
Alan giving us the nod that everything in the contract was fine, he quickly explained some of the details to us. We need to rename the store as it is our brand, a clause Sandra put in as she wants us to be known for our work not hers. We quickly sign the papers, Alan signing as well as witness, we shake hands with Sandra as she hands us her set of keys for the shop. She says she will be back tomorrow to collect the dresses from the front of the shop. We hug her as she leaves, Alan not far behind her.
We just sit on the couch and stare at the ceiling, in silence, until the door goes again, the both of us jumping up totally crapping ourselves but soon laughing when we see Stuart and Matt with a bottle of champagne in hand.
We quickly get them inside and pop the bottle open to celebrate. It feels so weird. We are now business owners, we just need a name, and a new sign for the front and advertising and we will be set.
