Finally they came to a closed door at the end of their path. The power within the station was off, so the door couldn’t be made to open for them, as the ones on the ship opened for me. Warren and Burke had brought along cutting torches from the ship, and they spent the next forty-five minutes cutting a big enough hole for them all to walk through without ripping the fabric of their suits on the sharp edges. Jennifer walked casually through the entrance they’d cut for her, and the two boys followed cautiously right behind her. They were now in the station’s bridge. It bore a superficial resemblance to the bridge Linda and I were sitting in—but whereas ours was set to control a ship with a crew of several hundred, their bridge was the command hub for a vessel with a population of a million.
