8: The wolves attacks

"f**k!" Arnold exclaimed
He saw Earnest running like a mad man through the woods while the wolves were following him from behind
The wolves were persistently running to catch up to their prey.
Earnest pushed his stamina further as the wolves will catch him if he slows down.
"Earnest! Hurry!" Arnold screamed out his lungs
"A-Are those wolves?!" Lance asked
"Night wolves to be exact, they're hunters capable of hunting in dead night without anyone spotting them because of their black furs. But their eyes gives of the deep red color which professional adventurers spot quickly." Grant said, he also heard about the night wolves but haven't seen them in person.
"The Phantom Beasts..." Kit whispered, he has also red a book called 'The Phantom Beasts' where the night wolves are explained to be night hunters capable of wiping out an entire adventurer party.
Earnest used last stamina to boost himself as he seen a rock on the ground which he used to boost forward.
Earnest reached the group when the wolves arrived also, three wolves arrived. They're x2 bigger than an average wolf, their black furs that blends well in the night and their red eyes which can see well in the night made them terrifying.
"Night wolves doesn't always hunt, they only hunt when It's a full moon..." Grant said as he looked up at the sky and saw the clouds shifting away from the moon and he saw the moon in full round and very bright.
"s**t, It's a full moon." Grant said, he readies his great sword and took a stance, Lance and Kit did the same, Kit on the other hand was very indeed nervous.
He only battled a boar alone which he had a hard time defeating, he was rammed by the boar on a tree earlier but Grant helped him.
Lance was eager to fight but felt more fear then excitement. He readies his sword and took a stance that Adam taught him.
Earnest had to catch his breath, he ran full speed to lose the wolves and even used magic to lose them. It was all for naught as the wolves recovered quickly.
Arnold put downs the injured trainee and readies his sword too.
Kit ran up to the injured trainee and treated him
He took out the herbs that Grant gave him and wrapped it around with a bandage where the trainee is injured.
"Argh!" The trainee felt the pain but endured it
"What's your name?" Kit asked while he's wrapping around the bandages
"Ugh! I-It's Jacob." Jacob said, he's enduring all the pain, the herbs are fast acting but stings too much.
The wind blew the tree leaves and the night grows stronger, the only light they have is the campfire Kit and the others set up.
The wolves howled and started attacking the trainees
Grant blocked the wolf's prowl towards him with his great sword and punched it to draw it back.
Lance dodged the wolf who came running to him and tried to s***h it, but it didn't hit
The two nobles fought against the one who attacked them, they both parried the wolves' claw attack with their swords and countered attack, the wolf jumped back with its reflexe
The group continued fighting the wolves, Earnest fought too assisting them in the fight
In the end they managed to injured one of the wolves, dealing a blow which left a deep cut on the side of the wolf.
The wolves didn't stop attacking, one managed to injure Grant's left arm, the other left a cut on Lance's legs.
In the end, everyone was injured, Earnest and Kit were the only ones able to fight,
Kit joined the fight but was halted by Grant
"No, you cant." Grant said as he held his great sword with one hand.
"I'll fight too! I cant let everyone here die!" Kit said with resolve, brandishing his iron sword in the air but is scared.
"I cant be a Knight if I leave my comrades to die!" Kit said, the wolf pounced towards him, Kit barely managed to dodge the attack, the claw of the wolf still left a cut in his left shoulder.
"Argh!" Kit felt the pain on his shoulder as blood started to gush out.
"Are you okay?!" Lance asked, he was barely walking because of his injured legs.
"I-I'm fine!" Kit tore out a piece of clothing to his clothes and tied up where the cut is.
"I can still fight! Even the weakest can wield a blade!" Kit said, he remembered what his grandfather told him way back.
"A weak man can still wield a blade, in his own way."
That was what he remembered and continued to fight.
"I like your confidence and resolve." Earnest said, he stood by Kit's side and brandish his sword
"We need to distract this wolves until the magic signal reaches the knights." Earnest said, he already sent out a magic signal earlier when he was running, and the magic he did boosted out the signal which will reach the knights anytime soon.
"Magic signal?" Kit asked, It's the first time he heard of this
"It's a type of magic that can send out a short message using Mana." Earnest explained
The wolves prowled and attacked them
"On your left!" Earnest said and Kit dodged the claw from his left and jumped back

With the sharp fangs protruding out from its mouth, Kit blocked it with his sword, but the sword got smashed into pieces because of the wolfs' strong fangs.
Kit jumped back and checked his hands which was stabbed by the sword piece
He took it out and has no choice but to step back for a moment
Earnest was knocked towards a tree, the wolves are too powerful for them to defeat.
Earnest stood up and continued to fight, Kit borrowed Lance's sword and fought using it
After landing a solid blow on the wolves', Earnest got hit by a claw attack from one of the wolves which hit his left stomach, the blood gushed out and he writhed in pain on the ground.
Grant took out a herb from his bag hanging on his waist, a Blacknotch Herb, a herb that can attract beasts because of its smell alluring to beasts.
The smell of the herb attracted the wolves' attention, Kit saw the herb and already knew what herb is that.
He ran towards Grant and took the herb
"Kit, what are you doing?!" Grant asked
"Saving you guys." He said and ran towards the forest trees
"No! Don't-" Grant was too late to warn him not to draw the wolves out
"Kit! Stop!" Also Lance tried to warn him
