He was not sure about giving the test earlier than his other brothers, and he did not know nor have been told a reason why he had to give them before time as if the Master Monk was under some kind of pressure and was depending on him.
He did not know if he would survive the all but he had faith that if it was the Master Monk proposal, then he must think he is ready. The tests were not easy to pass, but if he would pass then he would live and he would become one of them in truth. And only then, he thought, none could ever point out that he was a shadow, a wolf amongst the sheep.
