Chapter 2

"Call us if there is any problem and I'll be there in a heartbeat," hugging me, my Big brother said. "Eat your meals on time. I don't want to see my baby looking like a skeleton when she comes back." "Don't have s*x even if you find your mate," my Dad warned me, adding, "You can't ever trust men, pup. They only ever want one thing." His comment earned a side eye from my mom. "What happened, sweetheart?" he asked Mom innocently as if he had no clue why she was glaring at him. "Would you shut up and let our daughter choose for herself? I understand that you're concerned she will be taken advantage of but she is big enough to decide for herself. You always say that she is smart so let's trust her and give her our unconditional support as a parent," Mom said, making me hug her tighter. "You're the only one who I can count on, Mom," I wailed, giving her my best puppy eyes. "And yet you never listen to your Mother," she tweaked my nose in an adoring way, making me smile sheepishly at her. "Still, no s*x until he gains my trust," Dad added. I groaned at my father's comment. Ever since my mom mentioned me potentially meeting my mate, he has been telling me no s*x rules. I looked towards my younger brother, as he was the only one that hadn't commented. “Call me if you see any chicks,” Jack said. “You know my preference: tall, slim, and blonde.” "Of course, what else can I expect from the casanova," I rolled my eyes at him. "Dad, are you listening to your son?" "He is not my son," my Dad growled, glaring at Jack. "No son of mine would w***e himself like him." "Excuse me! w***e? Whom did I w***e myself to? You all know I'm more virgin than a nun," he cried, shedding his Casanova image. "Finally you're admitting you're a virgin," I snorted, making Mom laugh. "Are you laughing? If you care even a little bit about me, you would find me a wife," he growled. "Oh, my sweet baby brother, I don't care about you that much," I commented, making him narrow his eyes on me. "Fine, but if you get into any trouble, I won't be helping you from now on," he huffed. I rolled my eyes at him, shifting my focus to my mom. “My baby!” She exclaimed, pulling me into a tight hug. “Mom, I’m going for only a month,” I reasoned with her. My mom can be dramatic sometimes… Well, most of the time, I thought silently. "Month or a day, I will always worry about you. You'll understand it when you become a mother one day," she sighed. "I know you're worried since this is my first time going away from the pack but Mom, I assure you I will come back to you unharmed," I assured her. "I take you for your words, baby. You better come back without a single scratch on you," she warned lovingly. "Of course, Mom! I promise you," I smiled at her. Hugging everyone goodbye, I went behind a tree to remove my clothes and put them in my duffle bag. I closed my eyes and let my wolf take over. Dark gray, almost black, fur spurted from my pores. My back arched as my nose lengthened into a snout. The sound of bones cracking filled the air as my body reformed itself. The transformation wasn’t painful, more uncomfortable than anything. When I opened my eyes, I was looking through my wolf’s eyes. Everything seemed clearer and crisper, like a TV switching from SD to HD. The trees were greener and the plants were brighter. The chirping of birds sounded near my ear. A contented purr escaped me as the wind rustled my fur. I raised my snout in the air and breathed in the smell of the earth, my chest rumbling with another purr. Thank Goddess, today’s weather was great for travel! Twisting my head towards my back, I checked if my duffle bag was tight enough. Satisfied, I looked skyward and howled, letting my family know I was leaving. I know that I can mind-link them, but what’s the fun in that? We wolves love to howl — it’s in our nature! My wolf was excited to run after a week's rest. Crouching down, I took off. My fur blew with the wind as my paws hit the ground, pushing dirt up behind me. As I sprinted into the lush forest, I went over my semi-plan. I knew that it would take me one day to reach the Storm Forest pack so to reach the pack safely, I planned the trio thoroughly. I’ll run for as long as I can, take a short break, then cover the rest afterward. Running at full speed, I was getting exhausted. I looked up at the sky and saw I spent half a day running. I hope I’ve covered half the distance. I hoped. Deciding to take a rest, I slowed down to a walking pace as I listened to my surroundings. As I moved through the brush and trees, I listened for any animal sounds. I was hungry, exhausted, and in desperate need of a rest. I decided to rest for a while and search for food. After a while, I finally smelled something. Looking around, I spotted a doe in a clearing. Moving stealthily through the trees, I crept behind her. I watched as she lifted her head and glanced around, sensing the danger. I smiled wolfishly when she lowered her head once more. Crouching lower to the ground, I waited and listened to the blood flowing through her veins. My mouth began to salivate as I patiently waited for her to lower her guard, and once she did, I leaped out of the bush and onto her. I tore my canines through her neck, efficiently snapping it. The doe dropped to the ground, dead. I didn’t waste any time and began munching on my dinner. As I slowly devoured the doe, I made sure to keep my ears strained for the sounds of any possible danger. When I was full, I glanced around for a place to rest. The safest place I found was between two trees. The trees were so close that they were practically combined. But as I approached, I saw there was enough space for me to curl up. It was perfect to rest without fear, as the branches would hide my body from prying eyes. Before entering the tight space, I rolled in the dirt to cover my scent. Satisfied that I covered my tracks, I curled up between the trees and drifted off. A couple of hours later, I blinked my eyes open. The rest wasn’t enough to fully replenish my energy, but it was enough that I’d get to the Storm Forest pack. Crawling out from between the trees, I stretched and heard my joints crack. I checked my bag before resuming my travel. Night has officially fallen now and shadows are cast across the forest. It gives me the advantage of hiding in the shadows. Making sure to avoid the moonlit clearings, I ran at a fast speed. Faster than an average werewolf, almost as fast as a Lycan. I was able to keep up such a fast pace because I used to run with my cousin whenever she visited my pack. Lola was a Lycan and she always challenged me. So, I pushed myself to be as fast as her. It was difficult and took a lot of time, but I’ve managed to increase and improve and I’m proud of myself. If there is something I should brag about, it's my strength to fight any Lycan. As a werewolf, that's an achievement. Back to the present, I continued to run in the shadows, hiding from any possible danger. The mud from earlier still cloaks my scent, hiding me from those who pose a threat. With excitement feeling me, I reached my Aunt's pack in the morning. ~•~
