Chapter Four - Calling

2418 Words
Aramis Bronx Davina "H-Holy crap! Did I just do all of that without breaking a sweat?!" I exclaimed before backing away from those unconscious bodies, one of them was bleeding because I struck him with a spear. I didn't mean to do that! My body moved at its will! I looked at my pale white hands, that superhuman strength came from me, am I really that strong here? This man looks like he weighs 200 pounds, but I just lifted and threw him easily at that tree! Goosebumps crawled up to my body until I heard some horses neighing almost near the castle gates. Something tells me that I have to get out of here. Still confused about what I just did, I ran away from there and entered the Kingdom without being seen by others. I was gasping for air when I heard some music playing, so I ran towards over there and saw an enormous garden with different structures of people with the use of plants. Amazing that they can pull off something like that at this time. My feet continued pacing at the castle training grounds until I saw a large crowd gathering in one place with lots of fearless and dominating women at the center with their bags and mighty swords, men in luxurious weird outfits from different noble families cheering at the wooden bleachers. Some of them are probably relatives with the warrioress here, it looks like it was starting either, I kept my head low so that no one would notice me. Unfortunately, my silver glinting eyes and ash grey hair were like looking for attention when people started murmuring after I entered. "The silver-eyed bedridden warrioress is here!" someone announced from the crowd, which made others look at me with wide eyes. "The bedridden warrioress, she's the strongest one I heard from the academy of peasants," I heard someone whispered on my side, didn't they know that it was rude to do that? "Bet she's weak now that she hasn't been training for months because she was asleep back then," some of them laughed, causing me to furrow my eyebrows. I didn't know that I was famous, that even nobles knew about me, that's odd. I'm just a peasant yet they look troubled upon seeing me. Maybe there's something about me that I haven't experienced yet? "She's here, I really thought Davina's will be beheaded this time because of her," I wanted to glare at them but I stopped when I realized that even my surname was being mentioned here. Is my name Aramis Bronx Davina here? "Greetings people of Devon Kingdom and the warrioress before me," a familiar voice was to be heard booming on the front that caused all of the people in the crowd to shut up and focus on him. I was so overwhelmed by the crowd that I couldn't see the King on the front, I peeked on the corner and center and my eyes widened after seeing such a beautiful face. His smile towards the crowd was fine and gentle, it looks like he can easily fool people with that attractive smile. It's enough to make his face bright and compliment those perfect curves on his bare face, but I can tell that those smiles have already killed hundreds of people. His hair was lustrous and disheveled hair in light brown that compliments his hazel eyes. Woah, straight out of a novel or movie I might say, his body-built isn't bad either, after all, he's one of the strongest warriors among men that's why he's King. "We are all gathered here today for the Calling where all warrioress will meet their rivals, it's a pleasure to see such fearless and bright faces, I've been expecting to see that," he announced proudly and he was about to continue talking when a guard ran after him that looked troubled. His gentle face suddenly turned dark, I almost wanted to laugh because that's so interesting to watch. How can someone easily snap from good to that? "Someone here with us has hurt our main guards from the outer gates, may I know who it is or I'll kill one person right here, right now," he smiled after fishing out something from his pockets. It's a royal knife that's probably for self-defense, is he serious? Does he need mental help? How can he say that so easily? His glares send shivers down to everyone's spine, they know how powerful this King is, is that why they're backing away? Even my fellow warrioress is backing away. Wait a minute, was that guard talking about those two injured guards I hurt a while ago? I bit my lip before backing away with them. Shoot, I'm in trouble. I tried to glance around to look for an escape but stopped when I saw those two guards that were injured walking in the center of the stage near the king. They look like they're pissed and scared at the same time. I should be the one who's going to be scared, why are they acting like that? The King dragged one of those guards and placed the knife on their necks which made my eyes widened. What the hell?! "These guards are useless to me now that someone has defeated them and that trespasser got away from them, this one was thrown to a tree and the other one was stabbed by a spear in the air," the King just examined them but he immediately guessed what happened, he's terrifying as hell! "Step up or I'll end their lives," the King mumbled, so my heart skipped a beat. Why would he do that? Yeah, sure those guys are mean but to end their lives? People should be against this right? I tried to glance around but all of them looked tired, muttering words like "just step up already". Some of the people were not even paying attention, they're just waiting for this to stop, so I slowly shook my head in disbelief. I can't believe I was reincarnated in a world like this, I'm going to die again without leaving a purpose from this world as well. My silver eyes glared at the front before racing my hands, "It's me, I was the one who did that," I admitted, so people got quiet all of the sudden, and those warrioress looked at me and made my way towards the front. Murmurs and different opinions were raised in the air, but most people were silent probably because they didn't know that it was caused by a woman. All of their eyes widened as I walked towards the front, my eyes and the King's gaze met, the hatred was burning inside of me but something is waking up too. What the hell is that about? I just shook my head and swiftly walked towards the front, the guards were on high alert that they even pointed their spears at me and were ready to attack. I glared at them before looking at the king who's just smiling at me. What the freak? isn't he just glaring at the people a while ago? He needs some freaking help! "Let them go, I'm here okay? Now, what do you want?" I blurted out, so lots of them gasped like they couldn't believe what they just heard from my mouth. I don't know where I get this confidence but that's how my body wants to react to them. "Insolence! How could you talk like that towards the King!" people continued showering me with words that can't be digested so I glared at them, which made them shut up as I glanced back at the King. He was good-looking from afar but being this close to him overpowered it, he's too much for me and it mismatches his way of ruling. "So? What do you want, Your Highness?" I asked before bowing. I remained in my blank face that caused him to laugh before letting off the guard who's busy glaring at me. The King continued laughing, causing some of the crowds to shut up as they watched us on the front, "Intriguing, you threw this 200 pounds man off the tree and jumped 10 feet high from the ground to kick that spear towards that useless guard? May I ask why did you do this to them?" he pointed at those two in his back while hiding his knife. Oh? Am I spared now? He sounded like he's complimenting me but what the hell? How the hell did he know what happened there? "Well um, I guess so, they tried to sexually harass me so I did that," I explained, before stepping one foot from the back. People started murmuring that no normal woman can do that, my eyes peered at the front and saw some of the warrioress glaring and looking at me intently. Great, now I've already gained a bad impression on everyone, will I really be able to survive here?  I almost gasped when the King offered his hands to me, I looked up because I just noticed that he's taller than me, he's like a tree towering over some small bushes like me. "May I ask what's your name, warrioress?" the King asked, so I bowed my head at him. This is so weird, why am I bowing at this devil king?! "A-Aramis, Aramis Bronx Davina," I mumbled before raising my head, his brows raised before smiling. "Charmed to make your acquaintance. I've heard rumors that you were dead, I thought your family will be coming after you after they're beheaded," he smiled, which made me glare at him. How can he say that so casually?  So that's still my name here? That's weird, just where the hell am I? This is getting more confusing. "Excuse me? How could you say that to my family you freak?" I taunted before glaring at him. "Insolence! You're deranged!" the nobles shouted, so the knights and guards of the palace pointed their spears at me again. "Watch your language! You're talking to the King!" Some of the nobles, richtians shouted once more, but I just glared at them. "Damn your stupid language!" I screamed at the people watching us. The King just raised his hands which piped them down. "You're talking odd for a peasant, know your place as a warrioress," he paused before looking at me, "After all, you're just here for my hand and to survive this quest," the King smiled, his hazelnut eyes dancing in amusement. "I was forced to be here to survive for your hand, don't let it get into your head! This is not harem dumbass!" I argued, people were about to complain again when the King raised his hands. "Then, I must teach where you stand," In a swift move, the King took out his dagger from his pockets and grabbed me using my neck, my senses didn't even feel that he was going to attack me. My back was pressed against his front as I grunted, his hands were holding my waist while his other hand had this royal knife waiting to slit my neck. Holy crap, I went overboard didn't I? Kings are supposed to be weak, and just well-mannered but I'm just so unlucky to have our King here as the strongest one among all men. "Unfortunately, you were chosen by me to be one of my candidates, so there's nothing you can do about it right?" he lamented. I want to fight back, but my body is telling me that I should not move or it'll be game over. He glanced at the warrioress before us who's just looking with fear and remorse, "You're all here to survive a quest, survival of the fittest, and for my hand. I'm looking for a strong Queen suitable in leading by my side," he announced. "You have no other choice but to submit to this quest, some of you might die, survive but only one will be able to stand beside me," he let me go before harshly pushing me back to the crowd of warrioress. None of them bothered to catch me as I felt my butt on the polished bricked ground. Gee, thanks girls, there's no women empowerment here yet huh? "Death will only be the answer if you decline this request," the King raised his brows at me, but I just glared at him. I stood up in the crowd and some of them moved away from me, they looked threatened and it looked like they wanted me out of this quest as soon as possible. “You’re chosen to be one of my candidates, be my wife or die, may the best warrioress win,” he mumbled before smirking, the dream that's been appearing in my past life flashed before me that caused my eyes to widen. He was the one I've been hearing about in my dreams before! Could it be, I was really meant to be here from the beginning? That evil smirk was still plastered on his plumped ripe lips before turning his back on the crowd, "The first challenge will start in two days, that's enough time to prepare because the theme will be famine," after the King said those words, he left with the guards and knights with his side. "Oh, and lock those guards and torture them for good, it's humiliating to hear that they were defeated by a woman," the King's voice was loud enough for the crowd to hear it, so I glanced at the guards who tried to harass me a while ago. They glared at me before leaving with the guards who tied up their hands, knights on their sides too before disappearing at the crowd. I wonder what kind of torture they'll receive? They should thank me because I stepped up, or it'll be death. Numerous eyes were eyeing me after the King left. King Samael Albion Huxley I, that's his name according to the letter that I have read. He's much worse than I imagined, he really is the Devil King himself. Someone coughed and my eyes noticed a lady in luxurious maid clothes before pointing us the way on the other side. "Your quarters for this event are over there please follow me, warrioress," I wanted to laugh when that woman said the event.  So seeing someone survive and die is a party for them huh?
