CHAPTER 6: Facing Fear

"What are you doing." The beautiful woman asked me in a surprised tone, making me pull away from her instantly.
"I'm sorry. I... I..." I stuttered, finding trouble to find words on how to explain my careless actions. Then suddenly, a word which I hate the most came out of my mouth stubbornly and made my whole body weak.
"Mine!"
"Mine!" She quickly replied as if she was programmed to give me that response. She slapped a hand over her mouth after realizing what she said. There was a glimpse of happiness in her eyes, but it got immediately replaced with fear.
"Holy f**k!" I muttered inwardly and stared at her in shock. Last night was a warning! And my wolf felt that our mate was on the same island. But is it normal to get signs like that if you are about to find your mate? The Moon Goddess really moves in mysterious ways.
"Claim our mate!" My wolf said naggingly.
"Shut up!" I told him.
I dug my toes into the sand as I tried to keep myself stable as I faced my fear of finding my mate. I don't know what to do, and I am in a state of complete mental block. Why do I have to find my mate right now?! I thought I could easily reject her, but the bond is so strong, and claiming her is what's dominating my mind, heart, body, and soul.
"I'm Leo, Leonardo, but you can call me Leo," I said in the friendliest way I can, as I found the courage to speak and then offered her my hand for a handshake. But she just kept on staring at me with the same look in her eyes, fear. What is she afraid of? Maybe she knows my reputation, and she knows how much I hated the idea of mates. That must be it! f**k! I don't want her to be afraid of me. I want her to want me as much as I want her.
"We better stay away from each other." She nervously said and started trembling again. I gently grabbed her arms as my protective instinct took over my body.
"What are you afraid of?" I gently asked while looking straight into her lovely chocolate brown eyes. Her eyes soften, and it shows a hint of affection. Her eyes were like powerful magnets pulling me towards her, and my Alpha strength is not good enough to fight it.
"Is someone threatening you?" I added when she did not answer my first question.
"I am afraid of you!" She blurted out, and I was taken aback by what she said, and the reality started to sink in. This woman in front of me is my mate, and I promise myself that I will never yield to the pull of the mate bond.
"And why is that?" I deadpanned as I tried to hide the annoyance that I am feeling right now.
"You are my mate, and I never dreamed of meeting my mate." She explained with a bit, shaky voice. I studied her face closely after hearing what she said, and her expression clearly tells me that she is lying.
"Good! Because I never dreamed of meeting my mate too. I despise the idea of having a mate so consider yourself lucky." I said with a smirk.
She gasped at what I've said, and the feeling of hurt is undeniable in her eyes. I felt a twitch of guilt in my stomach as I continued to look at her expressive eyes. I f*****g hate this!
"Great! I guess we can move on with our own lives then. And never ever touch me again!" She said boldly with a threatening look in her eyes. Then, she started marching towards the direction of J's resort without bothering to hear my response. Her action pissed me off and made me feel attracted to her more at the same time. I like her boldness so much, and she's the first woman ever to resist me. My own f*****g mate, resist me! How ironic.
"Wait!" I screamed and turned around as I tried to stop her from walking away, but she pretended as if she did not hear me. She just continues to walk away, pacing like she's trying to escape from danger. I jogged to her and grabbed her on the arm, which made her really unhappy. She stared at me with piercing eyes; then, her gaze traveled down to her arm where my hand is.
"What do you want?! I said I am not interested in you!" She scowled.
"Then, reject me!" I challenged her. Maybe it's easier for her to reject me rather than me doing it. Honestly, I don't think I can do it. My wolf keeps on nagging at me to claim her, and I am very close to agreeing with him.
"Wh... What?" She stuttered in disbelief.
"Reject me," I whispered as I lean closer to her ear. It was so close that I felt her earlobe brushed against my lips. I felt her body tensed from the light touch of my lips, and I felt the same way. What made it worse is that her addicted scent flooded my nose, making it difficult for me to let go. f**k! How can I resist the pull of the mate bond if it's as strong as a pull of gravity?!
I shifted my position, and I am now standing in front of her, towering her small body with mine.
"Just reject me. It will be easier for you. For us." I said softly, but she did not say a word. We kept our gaze lock without even blinking, and none of us dared to break away. I was drowning in the beauty of her eyes when I realized that my face is just an inch away from her. I can feel her sweet, warm breath caressing my face, and all I could think of is to have a taste of her lips. I wrapped my left arm around her waist and leaned my body closer to her. I did not dare to move my head because, with one wrong move, I will end up kissing her, which I am dying to do so, but it also scares me of what kissing my mate could do to me.
"Just one kiss," I told myself as I made up my mind. I felt her hands gripped my arms as if she's getting ready for what is coming. She couldn't resist our bond too, which makes it even harder for both of us. But before I could make my move, a small wave hit our feet, startling us. We both lost our balance and fell to the shallow water, then another wave washes over us, making us drench with saltwater.
I stood up and quickly helped her to her feet before another wave hit us.
"Are you ok?" I concernedly asked while guiding her away from the shore.
"I'm ok. I have to go." She said as she jerked her arm from my grip and walked away. She just walked out on me like that, and I didn't even get the chance to know her name.
