Lyra's POV.
"What do you mean?!" Athena sparked, letting go of Alexander immediately. "I already apologized; I said I was sorry, so why else? Why are you canceling our wedding?" she questioned.
"Relax; that isn't what I meant. You're still going to be my Luna, just not right now." Alpha Alexander responded with a stern look.
"but why? Did something come up?" Athena was in full panic mode; I hardly got to see her like this.
"The controversies surrounding the mate matching ceremony were a bit too much. The elders think it'd be wise to hold on for a bit before deciding to get married. We'll definitely get married, and you'll be my Luna," Alexander reassured her, but his eyes told lies.
I didn't know if Athena was smart enough to do this.
"Do you promise?" she asked with an unconvinced look on her face.
"Of course, sincerely," Alexander replies right before planting a kiss on her forehead.
"And what are you staring at?" A question came from beta Jasper, who had suddenly creeped up on me from behind without my notice.
"Nothing, nothing at all. I was just about to go into my room." I responded swiftly and turned back to head inside my little room. He stopped me by placing a hand on my chest.
"If you're praying to the moon goddess for those two to break up, then you're wasting your time. They're good as married already," he said with a weird grin drawn on his face.
"Beta Jasper, if you'd excuse me. I'm a bit tired after all today's occurrences." Jasper also treated me like trash sometimes, but he hardly did it as much as the others. The other ones found joy in making me cry for no reason.
"I'll leave you to it, Omega," he remarked right before leaving to catch up with the love birds. Shortly after, I went into my room.
About two weeks had passed since the events of that day. I went back to having some normalcy in my life. By normalcy, I meant being subjected to hard labor from my waking hours until the time I slept and having the captain maid beat me up for little reasons.
The only difference was that I fell sick all the time now. I woke up nauseous every morning with a high fever as well, and I started getting hungrier than I usually did.
It was all normal to me; I felt like it might have been due to the cruel, hard labor that I was made to do daily, Up until I felt it and while cleaning the walls, everything went dark suddenly. I was fading out.
When I came, I was back in my room, with two people present. Hannah, the dungeon guard, who carried me to my room, and the pack physician.
According to what the physician said, I might have been lacking blood, hence the fainting.
"Can you leave us for a bit?" the pack physician asked gently if Hannah and she left.
The physician asked some pretty specific questions; she asked if I had had any s****l experiences recently.
A question to which I denied because I didn't want anyone to find out about that one-night stand with the stranger.
After making her examinations of me, she took her leave. Leaving me with the words "you're not sick."
I wondered what that was all about, and I thought of running after her to ask questions, but I felt very weak. I was weaker than I had been before.
I started wondering what could have been the issue.
The very next day, Beta Jasper came to the guards section where I was cleaning the floors, and he came in search of me.
While cleaning, I could hear footsteps coming from behind me. My wolf powers were weak, but I could identify who was coming through his scent.
"Lyra, I see you're doing a good job." Jasper's soft voice spoke; he had never seen someone as aggressive as the alpha.
"Beta Jasper, what brings you here?" I inquired, still going on about my work.
"I'd like to ask for your attention. The alpha wants to see you in his chambers immediately," he requested.
"The alpha? I haven't done anything to upset Lady Athena recently. Am I in trouble?" I questioned him, getting up to face him with a concerned look.
"It all depends. He didn't tell me why he needed to see you. I simply came to pass a message," he concluded, heading away in the opposite direction until his footsteps were out of range.
I felt a sudden knot in my stomach.
What was this about? For the past two weeks, I have been on my best behavior and tried to avoid interactions with them for as long as possible.
"Alpha? Alpha, are you in?" The fear in my voice couldn't be concealed as much as I tried to hide it.
I pushed the door, and it swung open to see him sitting at his coffee table. He didn't take my presence into account until he was done with his cup of coffee.
After he finished with the coffee, I went to take the mug away, thinking that it was his reason for calling me.
As I reached out for the mug, he grabbed my hand, and the mug fell to the ground. I was startled.
Alexander took a sharp look at me before letting go of my hand.
"What's wrong?" he inquired. This question confused me because I didn't know if he was asking about why I broke the mug or my health.
"I'm perfectly fine, my alpha. My hand just slipped. That's all," I replied, bent to pick up the pieces of glass.
"I heard you fainted today," he said, his cold eyes piercing a hole through me as he stared.
"Yes, it's probably the stress," I replied.
"Take your things; leave to Alpha Jim's house. You'll bring us shame," he said. Of course.
"Shame?" Confused, I inquired.
