After the morning excitement with the newspaper and the reading of the editorial in English class, gym class was a total bore. My team lost every single volleyball game during the entire period. We even had Steve on our team and that wasn't enough. His football player build was great for powerful serves, but his reflexes weren't fast enough, especially when he was in a front row position. When it was time to hit the locker room after phys ed, I always changed out of my gym clothes at the speed of light. I hated the locker room for so many reasons. First, it smelled like something died and was decaying in an old pair of gym socks. Second, it was too small.
